Summer Transfer Window 2017

 Yeah, there's a bit of an ongoing joke with my mates as I hyped the shit out of him when he came. Oh god how wrong I was.

It is June 4th.

Yeah, there's still internationals and stuff to be played. If, as I expect, United are determined to secure Mbappe, that will likely be a VERY big fee with many different clauses for things like appearences, top scorer, balon 'dor status (or whatever it's called now), which will take a long time to negotiate with a number of very rich competitors also in for him.

In addition, a lot could depend on De Gea, and whether Mourinho can get a player (or two) into the the deal if he does leave. I expect he's all in for Varane, but might accept James now Griezmann has comitted himself to Atleti.

Can we announce something?

Anything?

I'm fit to burst and I need a release.

Is it just me or are we moving at glacial speeds this window? Is woodward lost in the amazon?
The window hasn't even opened yet.

Things are probably going to pick up after the international games. Nobody wants to do any medicals when there's still football to be played.

I wouldn't expect anything to happen until August for us the way it's been the past few years. I'd recommend stop refreshing this forum or football news sites if you're feeling impatient now.

We had signed 3/4 of last Summer's signings by July 10th last season, so what recent Summers exactly are you referring to?

Victor Lindelof
Fabinho
Douglas Costa
James Rodriguez
Alvaro Morata

Seems that's the best we can do in this transfer market. Would give our attack a much needed spark. Not sure Costa and James fits in with the hard-working mentality that Jose likes though.

Morata
Costa James Micky
Pogba Fabinho
Shaw Victor Bailly Anton
Romero

We do sign players we're not linked with or have been linked with for a short time.

How long did we hear about Bailly before he signed?

It was not based on who we are linked to, i just feel this is the best we can do right now with the players available.

I doubt we will go for a hidden gem like Bailly this year, but i could be wrong.

Are there any players we are linked with that even get majority caf support? Because all i'm seeing is that it's a "relief" that Inter want to keep perisic, that it's "good" that lukaku prefers another team, and people "can't get excited" for the likes of Lacazette, Rodriguez, morata

Well if it makes you feel any better, pretty much everybody on here was thrilled when we got Depay. That NL Max (?) guy had me pretty psyched about Memphis, I remember coming on here for months hoping to hear we were in for him and being delighted when he chose us over Liverpool:lol:

Fabinho is popular among the Caf.

All of the players mentioned would improve us. I think the whining is due to most thinking we need to land a Pogba every year. Since this will be Jose's 2nd season, most feel he knows what the squad needs and will get it done in one window. When in reality it's going to take several to sort out the mess we have.

We need to strengthen 4 key areas due to either injury concerns or lack of performance from current options i.e. Shaw at LB, Carrick as our only true DM, Rojo, Smalling, etc.

Then add the DDG factor in. Now it looks like Zlatan won't return, Rooney is past it, so we need 2-3 attacking players, a DM, 1-2 CB, and possibly a keeper. That's a lot to ask for in one window. So now does Jose compromise on a position were okay in by going for someone of lesser worldy stature like Perisic or Rodriguez and use the glamour signing money for something we really need such as a CB, DM, or #9?

Schneiderlin too. This place was so gasssd the night we signed him.

Seems like we aren't really getting behind most of the players we're linked with lately. Lots of people think Lukaku is just a donkey, Belotti is just a poacher with no link-up play, Bale is too injury prone, Perisic is a nothing player, Van Dijk isn't worth the fee, Keane isn't good enough, James is just a big name lacking substance, Douglas Costa doesn't deliver in the games that count, etc etc etc.

It's going to be one of those windows where we won't be happy unless every rumour is Neymar, Lewandowski, Verratti, and so on.

And the footie journos and ad click revenue companies are milking that train of thought for all it's worth.

It looks like Pepe has confirmed he is leaving Real Madrid this window.

Would you take him at united on a freebie?

Despite his arsehole-ness I think he still has a lot to offer, on his day he's a quality defender.

Definitely. Brilliant defender. If we squeeze a couple of years out of him alongside Bailly while Tuanzebe learns the ropes and Rojo shares CB duties we are sorted.

In a word. NO. He gets away with murder in Spain as most of the players for the big two do. Here he will be banned for most of the season. I don't mind people hating us but not for the reasons he would bring.

Really think we are in desperate need of a hard working midfielder who can keep the ball well and works hard defensively. That's the main thing we need I think as we have hardly any central mids at all and at the moment Fellaini will be starting every game in midfield!

It would certainly make things interesting though having Rojo, bailly and Pepe as our defenders. I know he can be a arse but on a free surely that'd be worth taking the risk. He's vastly experienced, he's got big game experience too which could stand us well in our return to the champions league and all things considered he is actually a very good player still.

I don't care about the hate, People already hate us anyway simply because we're Man Utd and people despise Herrera so might as well add another to the party.

Bizarre isn't it. I'd love to see Lukaku and Perisic actually id be happy with any of them.

We definitely need a midfielder but sorting our attack out should be higher on the priority list.

I think that's because of the high expectations from our last transfer window. It's hard to do better than Ibra, Pogba, Mkhi and Bailly.

So the players that we have been linked to so far are

Strikers - Lukaku, Belotti, Lacazette, Morata
Midfielders - Fabinho, Bakayoko, Matic, Dier
Wingers/attackers - Perisic, James
Centre backs - Lindelof, Keane
Left back - Mendy

I'd be happy if we get the names in bold. But I hope we unearth a few gems out of nowhere.

If we do land Lindelof, Sanches, Fabinho, one of Morata/Lukaku and some RW, that alongside our young players like DDG, Bailly, Shaw, Pogba, Pereira, Tuanzebe, TFM, Martial, Rashford, would be one heluva young core that would be growing together and reaping the rewards in the future.

Just a bit of fun, I know none of us are psychic..

But what date would you guess United will make their first signing? (Or announce a medical, fee agreed or something)

I say June 13th

Lindelof maybe? Middle of June. At a price that will look pretty good next to Van Dijk.

Shocked no one is being linked with Icardi, us especially. I know he is by all accords a bit of a penile off the pitch but on it he would improve most teams and is the best attainable striker for us at the moment IMO.

We should be all over this tbh

There are several reasons why we (or anyone else) haven't been linked with Icardi.

He's Inter's captain, just signed a new contract, has 100 million release clause, they don't want to sell him want to build around him, he's the face behind Inter revival project.

Also he's utterly useless outside the box.

I don't mean to sound arrogant towards Inter here, But he would jump at the chance to sign for us if we offered it IMO. He has already showed in other areas he isn't the most loyal of guys so being captain of a poor Inter team wouldn't stand for much. The other strikers we are being linked with aren't great outside the box either. He is clinical inside of it and that is what we need. If he is getting the service from Mkhi and potentially a James etc I think he would score loads of goals for us.

But Inter aren't a small club by any means, they have a long history and tradition just like us, have new rich owners that intend to bring the club back where it belongs - top of the European football. He himself has stated it numerous times he likes it were he's at and has no intention of leaving, not even when he had that beef with Inter ultras.

He has no hold up game, his link up play isn't to brag about either and his passing is quite poor, he is clinical then most I grant him that.

O I know that. I like Inter and they are one of the teams I like in Serie A. But even with the new owners and money it will still take 2 - 3 years for them to be anywhere near challenging Juventus. Would Icardi be happy with potentially winning nothing for a few years until this happens. I'm not so sure....

Get Mendy, Fabinho, Costa, a CB and spend big on the CF position and we can still have a very good window, Griezmann or not.

I understand your point, but he himself said it he wants to stay and spearhead the new Inter into success.

Besides can we really guarantee him he would be winning trophies with us? EPL is more competitive then ever and there's no need to be commenting on the strength of the CL.
