Summer Transfer Window 2017

I don't think there is many top players available in the market this window.

Are options are very limited and it's a huge problem due to this being a key window in our squad development.

Competition for good players is also a lot more fierce than in recent years due to the distribution of wealth in English football at the moment along with the richer clubs on the continent.

The English summer window opens on June 9th...but I know you what you mean. Suppose I'm just impatient really. I want every new player on board before the squad return to training.
Does that mean Bernardo to city won't be official til the ninth then? There seems to have been a lot of movement already.

Can we announce something?

Anything?

I'm fit to burst and I need a release.
Yeah, I'm the same this window. We all know the attack needs major surgery so its imperative to get good players in and major players like griezmann and Bernardo seem to be slipping through our fingers.

We need 4-5 players in key areas to boost a squad who finished 6th in the league and make them top 4 contenders at least. If we're not acting quickly then that's unlikely to happen. The issue is that most of the big clubs looking for new signings are looking for similar positions. Everyone seems to need a new CB, striker, midfielder and support attackers and there are only so many out there who will be moving this summer.

I think we'll need to be a bit patient though, as the players City want will generally go there as they just pay whatever it takes. Whoever Chelsea want will most likely go there because they're miles ahead of us and players want to win things. Whoever Madrid want will go there too of course, so we need to be competing with the clubs who are left for the players who are left! I don't think Barca will be after any players we are, so at least there's that.

I'd like to see us start with bids for Morata and Douglas Costa, but the latter won't happen. Imagine if we end up with our rumoured targets though, and Arsenal sign Mbappe :nervous:

I am quite surprised there is no real engouement around Christian Pulisic. Based on his talent and level of maturity, he seems like a bona-fide superstar in the making, the type of which you are sure will reach a very high level. Add to that the fact that he is American which should be very attractive to the biggest clubs in the world.

Dortmund is ok, but at the end of the day, it is just Dortmund.

Andre Silva, James, Lemar, Fabinho, Ricardo Pereira and a CB would be a very good summer, I think.

2.0: Morata, Lemar, Fabinho, Alex Sandro, Lindelöf

Christian Pulisic: I was a big Manchester United fan as a youngster

Would really love us to sign him. He looks very promising.

I would take Pulisic ahead of most every forward that's been championed on this forum. I'd be happier with him than James, Perisic, Costa, et al.
There are so many outstanding young players in Germany but the fans just aren't interested. I would like Werner and Pulisic on the front line. Dembele too, but all 3 of them along with Rashford and Martial would probably be overkill.

We need a bit of experience and consistency in attacking areas though. Especially since we are lacking goals, we need someone who's a bit more established. Ideally we'd get someone like James or Griezmann and complement a signing like that with Pulisic.

Who do many on here think we can sign him. I don't see why he would want to leave Juventus for us.

We could probably offer him more money. The options are limited, so that's why I choose him. Don't really think it's going to happen, but I also don't think it's completely unrealistic.

none of us saw Bailly coming last season....

I think there might be a surprise or two rather than simply all the expected names

Won't post this on Twitter thread because the sources aren't good enough - but lots of Mancunian friends that I follow on there are adamant that we are going to smash the transfer record again this window.

Probably a load of attention seeking rubbish mind you. But someone has heard something in the last few hours. Weird thing is, two of the people claiming this don't know each other and both said the same thing around the same time.

Disclaimer: I am not ITK or claiming to be!

I can't help feeling that Griezeman doing a U turn and deciding to stay has really "thrown" Jose and Ed's plans for this window. I reckon they thought that one was nailed on and just going through the motions. Griezeman was the "Jewel in the crown" of this window for us, satisfying both the fans and the marketing men (and Jose) whilst allowing smaller value, more "functional" signings to sit around it.

Now, with Griezeman off the table and no comparable "blockbuster" player available, it leaves us looking at just the functional signings and, potentially quite an underwhelming window from the point of view of fans, marketing and the manager's point of view. I think they might try and talk someone like Morata or James up as the big signing of the summer but, in reality, they are not on the same level as a Griezeman.

The same day Lukaku know where to play next year..dare i muppet?

OR Mbappe?

OR did Greizmann say he is staying just so players Atletico want to buy thinks he is staying then boom when they sign for Atletico this summer (but joins in winter) Greizmann joins us!! Perfect plan Jose and Ed!

If we buy Fabinho then it makes sense to look for players who are suited to a 433 formation.

With Fabinho we can afford to have two attacking minded fullbacks. Valencia and hopefully Benjamin Mendy.

In midfield a solid DM will give Pogba license to roam around.

Without Zlatan we need a replacement, especially when Greizmann seems to be out of the picture. I think Álvaro Morata, or similar player, would be perfect in a 433 formation.

I'm unsure about James, when he played with Porto he was a left sided forward, correct me if I'm wrong? Is he effective playing wide or is he a pure 10? Otherwise Ivan Perišić makes sense. With him we have three strong, fast and hardworking players on our left side.

Finally we need a ball playing CB. Not a priority but without Rojo we are a little bit thin in that department. Daley Blind is one of my favorite players. Reliable, solid and a excellent reader of the game. Unfortunately for him he's not good enough to be a long term starter. Smalling is a excellent defender but last season wasn't his best. Jones is also a talented defender and very likable young man, but maybe the train has left the station? To many injuries?

All in all I can't see us buying all of them, especially the two gems from Monaco. But, let's say we sell DDG. Then it's another ball game.

Transfers are great and I'd like to see a few big names as much as anyone else. However surely the bigger concern is that the squad we have should have been capable of playing/performing so much better than what they did.

Micky and Mata playing either side of any striker should be capable of opening most defenses.
Herrera and Pogba supporting that should have given us as creative a front 5 as anyone in the PL,but for some reason they didn't.
Can transfers rectify this?

If so, A shiny new striker in preference to Rashford.
A passing defensive mid instead of an ageing Carrick.
Lindelof instead of an overrated English CB ( I believe this will be first transfer completed)

And we're done

I'm actually going insane waiting for some solid transfer news.

I have checked my phone at least 50 times today!!!

I think a whole load of stuff goes on before the window opens, I'm sure Ed is doing business...but officially nothing can be fully announced till after that......apparently.....

Agree. Aubameyang would be nice, actually. We do need an experienced talisman up forward.

We should sign Luan.
He's a 10/7/11.
He could be the second best Brazilian player in this generation bu he had some little problems so far.
Things like be stopped by police, not being accepted in some neighborhoods, etc.

So, i think he's got everything to be the first Brazilian to succeed at United!

How good is Franck Kessie? It was being reported that PSG, Chelsea, and others were looking for him. But instead, AC Milan signed him with a 2 years loan deal.

This.

In terms of top quality in attack, I think it was Griezmann or bust.

Looking very bleak and I think that was reflected in Mourinho's hissy comments yesterday.

Top choice:

Van Dijk - Nainggolan - Dembele - Aubameyang

Second choice:

Lindelof - Fabinho - James - Morata

Third choice:

Keane - Dier - Perisic - Belotti

Only included realistic targets who are potentially available.

Aubameyang going to PSG for 70m according to bild.

yet we are trying to haggle Madrid down to 80m for Morata :wenger::wenger:

i'd really love to see this "jose list", because after griezmann we seemingly are running around with no real focus on a no.9 target

You don't know any of the facts so no need for a meltdown yet.

Annoyed about the Aubamayang transfer we are struggling to get anyone and they have potentially snapped up a world class striker for less than the cost of Morata.

Yes, this is batshit crazy.

Aubameyang 70m euros
Morata 90m euros
Belotti 100m euros
Lukaku 100m pounds
Mbappe 122m pounds

Frustrating to not see anything happen, i know the window isn't open yet, but our rivals, and other big Europeean clubs have already started. If we want the best players, we need to act before others pick them up.

Any of our players linked to other clubs?
Only one i heard is being sold, is Januzaj.
And i assume Rooney, and probably Mata And atleast one cb, too.

I think this off-season might drag a little. There is no big tournament, the market needs to sort itself out with the influx of money in the EPL. Clubs asking €40-50M for players barely heard of. Most deals getting done are free or release clauses triggered.

Morata, Sanchez, Fabinho, Lindelof, and a LB (probably Tierney from Celtic) would be a great summer. Sanchez is the outlier here, but if City are in for him, we should be too; otherwise we need a winger in addition to a new striker. That's probably around £200m outlay, but we've put ourselves in this position because of the poor business in previous windows (before Jose came along).

If we get Fabinho, Morata and one of the CBs that have been mentioned, we won't have improved our first team. Fabinho isn't better than Herrera, Morata isn't better Ibra and, for example, Lindelof isn't better than Rojo. I think we need a star player to improve and make that jump forward.

Fabinho doesnt play in the same position as Herrera, and it's arguable whether Herrera is better than him. In relation to the star player, I thought Sanchez should've been priortised. I know he plays for Arsenal, but he's in the last year of his contract, which makes him eminently more gettable than Greizmann. I think Arsenal would find it difficult to turn down £50-60m for a player available for a free in January, and that's less than we're willing to drop on Morata.

Victor Lindelof
Fabinho
Douglas Costa
James Rodriguez
Alvaro Morata

Seems that's the best we can do in this transfer market. Would give our attack a much needed spark. Not sure Costa and James fits in with the hard-working mentality that Jose likes though.

Morata
Costa James Micky
Pogba Fabinho
Shaw Victor Bailly Anton
Romero

Definitely not a Champions League winning team.
