Summer Transfer Window 2017

It's not their money, why on earth do people care!!

Not every signing is going to be a galactico, you've gotta have a certain number of foot soldiers.
We have a squad full of them already. We need something more than just a marginal improvement on one of those "foot soldiers".

It's good to care about prices. You overpay for one player, it leads to overpaying for another. The tens of millions we've spent overpaying is going to catch up to us eventually because our money is not unlimited and it's not sustainable to spend 100s of millions every season.

Inter up to mischief over Perisic?
More Perisic palaver: Gazzetta dello Sport claims City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are keen on signing the Internazionale winger. That comes after the same outlet said United were willing to raise their offer.

It’s almost as if Inter are trying to smoke out a bidder and are fabricating interest in Perisic. He’s decent, but he is hardly coveted across the continent and there is definitely no interest from City.

This is 100% what is going on imo. Still doubt we've even contacted them for him.

Firstly I support the club and hence everything to do with it, so not just simply what happens on the pitch. Also, overpaying massively for a player can result in other clubs asking for ridiculous fees for their players when we come calling (I'm fairly sure the Perisic asking price is partly because we paid £89m+ on Pogba) and we don't have unlimited funds, so overpaying can mean that we have to go for a cheaper second option in one of the other positions that we're looking at.

Early days and with all the usual bullshit rumours, who knows what'll happen but if Zlatan and De Gea leave (not improbable) then we're a 6th place team, losing 2 of our best players/performers before we even look to improving the squad.

I know people are being laughed at for complaining before the window is open but surely it has to be even a slight worry for most people? I'm not going into a meltdown or anything but as it stands, IMO Woodward has an absolutely huge task in front of him. Will be a very interesting to see who comes in (although not the tedium of the rumours).

I'm going to end this conversation there.

We all support the club mate, we also all have different opinions. If United overpay for players it doesn't affect me or the club, were loaded and it's not showing any sign of slowing down either. The Glazers drained us for years, it's about time they started investing in players to improve the team.

I like Perisic, he's direct, fast and a goal threat. Whenever I've seen him play he's been the best player on the pitch, why wouldn't I want us to sign him.

You do but we have far too many of them at the minute - we need quality signings, not squad players. Madrid are always used as this poster child for Galacticos in a negative sense - well they've won the European Cup a record amount, they can win their 3rd CL in 4 years (as many as we have in our history) tonight...they pay big money for big players and although granted it doesn't always work, look at their team tonight and who they have on the bench and then tell me that the likes of Lingard, Fellaini etc are great, hard-working squad players, who shouldn't be replaced.

What are people's thoughts on Lacazette? Watch the below and seems that he is a cracking penalty taker and a lethal finisher. Anyone rate him?

Other than us and Man City, none of the other big PL clubs seem to be linked with any players really. Are Chelsea and Spurs going to sign anyone?

Arent Chelsea close to signing Kabayako from AS Monaco?

We might get a few players this window but I don't expect anything like last summer where we got 4 starters - our best striker, winger, midfielder and defender. So it's upto the manager and the players to up their levels. I expect a lot more from Mkhi, Martial, Rashford, Shaw and Pogba. Our other players are more or less at their best levels. One marquee player like Sanchez could do us a world of good but can't see it happening so far.

I'm fed up of this window already and it's only 3rd of June. I just want a media blackout on transfers, and we just find out when the season starts who we have in our team.

Sandro Ramírez to Atlético for a reported €6m. Fecking bargain.

Not sure why, but I reckon now the season is officially over we'll start seeing some action now.

A chain of events will occur now.
I reckon by next weekend, we'll know for certain a player we'll be signing.

Not sure if how much we'll glean about United's targets, but there are things starting to fall in place. If Rodgers really is looking at Borini, Moussa Dembele might be moving on. Everton moving in on a striker would say quite a bit about Lukaku. I think we're going to see quite a bit of that soon, moves that signal bigger moves.

BBC Sport:

Antoine Griezmann says he will stay at Atletico Madrid next season as it would be a "dirty move" to leave the club after their transfer ban was upheld.

The 26-year-old forward had been linked with a move to Manchester United, before their interest in him cooled.

Atletico's appeal against a transfer ban for breaching Fifa rules over the signing of minors was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

"It's a hard time for the club," Griezmann told French television.

The France international told Telefoot he had decided to stay at the Spanish side after discussion with his sporting advisor Eric Olhats.

"It would be a dirty move to leave now - we talked to the leaders and we will be back for next season," he added

We'll that proves me wrong but I'm glad as didn't want him anyway.

Did he really believe the club would get away with it? He must have seen the decision coming.
I may be wrong, however, as I recall for Barca and I think another team, the appeal got the ban pushed back. Maybe, just maybe, it actually was a surprise that CAS stuck to their guns this time?

It may sound defeatist but I think with no Griezmann incoming I think we aren't going to be in for the summer many had hoped for (myself included).

We are crying out for a top quality player to come in and bring goals and he would have been perfect IMO.

I see the likes of Morata, Lacazette and Belotti touted, and while they are very good they are a significantly lower standard. After Grizemann's now infamous interview I felt we would bring him in along with a No9. thus solving our goalscoring issues, now however I have little confidence in what is available.

Ideally now we would have to bring in a few proven goalscorers and I think the best ones around who wants to move are Lukaku and Lacazette. If Griezmann isn't moving then Costa isn't going to Atletico Madrid and that means Chelsea don't need a new No9 (same story with Lacazette). That could mean Lukaku to United which IMO would put us in a great position for the PL next season as he has consistently scored for several seasons now.

It's a shame but I can't help but feel less optimistic about next season.

Agreed. I had hoped for one or both of Griezmann and Silva and us upgrading 3-4 positions in the starting XI with top class quality, putting us in a position where we only need to freshen up/round out the squad in coming windows. Now that Griezmann and Silva are off, and with no WC strikers realistically on the market, I think we may have to settle for rounding out the squad this summer and hopefully go for Griezmann/whatever top quality players become available next summer instead.

I think this is a really interesting window for us, and I don't think we're actually interested in most of the players most linked (Perisic, James, Lukaku, Dier, Matic etc.) and journos just have no clue what we're going to do. I wouldn't be surprised to see 2-3 Bailly like out of the blue signings.

IMO, you find better quality buying from the bargain bin at Saks Fifth Avenue than you get buying from any shelf at Kmart. Real Madrid have won 3 of the last 4 Champion's League finals so they're the Saks Fifth Avenue of club football.Maybe Mourinho has been relatively uninvolved in the transfer business because he's planning a big swoop for bargains at Real now that they've won another CL trophy.

Something like DDG plus £80m for CB Varane, CF Morata, and AM/#10 Rodriguez. Obviously, Mourinho wouldn't want to tip his hand by showing interest in Real players before their season was complete. Add in a £90m Monaco swoop for CDM Fabinho and LB Mendy and we've added a lot of quality to the first team for £170m.

So how would they fit. Romero gets the #1 shirt; back 4 of LFB Valencia, CB Bailly, CB Varane, LFB Mendy; a midfield 4 of CDM Fabinho, CM Herrara, CM Pogba, AM Rodriguez; and a front 2 CF Morata and CF Rashford. I know a lot of people don't like a diamond midfield but Real dominated a very good Juventas team using it. I watched Isco's positioning and movement closely and he was playing mostly between the 2 CFs and the 2 CMs, rarely on the right wing. I believe a diamond would get the best from our top current players when combined with quality additions at LB, CB, CDM, AM, and CF.

Had a chat with a mate of mine who's a big Real supporter. We both agreed that Morata wouldn't really improve us that much, he isn't clinical enough. He is a good 'super sub' for RM but don't think he'll raise our game. Lacazette on the other hand would be a fecking awesome signing. He wants Real to buy him and play him ahead of Benzema who has been poor in La Liga this season. If we manage to snatch Lacazette up we'll take a massive step in the right direction imo. The guy just had the 5th most clinical season in terms of conversion rate of all the strikers in the top 5 leagues in the last 5 years! Link

To have someone who puts most of his chances and doesn't regularly miss sitters like Zlatan would help us massively. Make it happen Woody

It was a dirty move to cheat and get caught with their pants down.

Zlatan had a far higher conversion rate in France, and seldom missed 'sitters'. Last season was an aberration, and at 34, in his last season in Ligue 1, he scored 13 more goals than Lacazette's best ever return while playing for PSG.

Lacazette would score no more than a handful more than either Martial or Rashford playing in the number 9 position all year, and would be a waste of time and money for a side with FAR more pressing concerns. I.E. BOTH wings, DCM and centre-half.

I feel exactly the same.

It's frustrating, but I can't knock the club for their efforts.

Truth is, our failure to invest properly since Ronaldo left and up to Woody coming in charge has been an incredibly expensive mistake.

God I miss having actual wingers. Would even take Obertan at this point...

I think that's got to be the priority along with a centre back that can stay fit a full season. After that, I reckon we'll be pretty flexible on what else we bring in. Maybe a CDM would be next, but wed still have Carrick and he may want to give tuanzebe or TFM a chance.

Wouldn't make sense for us not to be in for Costa considering how expensive Perisic seems to be. He's two years younger as well.

Wtf. Increasing the conversion rate is pretty much the #1 concern. To say that probably Europe's most consistent finisher would score only a handful more than Martial/Rash is crazy imo. Players like Mata and especially Pogba created so many chances last season. Things would've been very different with a clinical and consistent striker.

Is it just me or are we moving at glacial speeds this window? Is woodward lost in the amazon?
