Summer Transfer Window 2017

If we ended the summer with this I think it would be serviceable and would see us looking fairly strong in defense and midfield with a good age profile across the back 4 with the excetpion of Tony. We could look to add some genuine flair and excitement to the attack with Ousmane Dembele next summer.

That team looks quite realistic, obviously with Lacazette for Morata according to the latest rumours.
That attack is very underwhelming in my opinion.
Btw how do you save lineups on that website? Is it difficult or am I an idiot?

Perisic, Lacazette, Lindelof. That would be so underwhelming.
It'll be fecking disaster. We need star players, not some mere upgrades on what we have. One more season out of the CL and we're back to square one.

There'll be people on this website who want us to sign Lindelof despite not ever having seen him outside of youtube.

If the Portuguese media released a story tommorrow linking us to a fictional striker this player would end up in every other fantasy line-up by the end of the day.

Lindelof - £35m
Fabinho - £30-35m
Sanchez - £45m
Lukaku - £60-65m

£170-180m

I'd consider that a good window, we'd have addressed most of our problem areas.

We ain't getting Shanchez mate. Other teams are far further in talks with him, we are left stranded on this one.

I think he's Bayern bound myself, but I can dream. That's just an example really, I guess I'm trying to say that a Griezmann-less window isn't necessarily a disaster.

I wonder when stuff will actually start happening

We're still no closer to knowing Zlatan or Rooney's club's for next season. As far as we know, nobody is close to signing for United.

It still seems a lot to say there's 3 months left, but in a months time they fly away to USA, then they have the Super Cup, then the season starts. So really United only have a month if they want players in before things start getting busy again

Most likely following the international friendlies.

Sanchez
Van Dijk
Fabinho
Lukaku

Surely I'm not asking for too much, am I? Oh, and if you could wrap them up with receipts and have them delivered to Old Trafford by tomorrow, that'd be much appreciated.

Thats basically what I would like if we can't get Griezmann. I wouldnt mind Varane if we don't get Van Dijk and I'm not 100% sure about Lukaku but I do think he'd be a good asset. Fabinho and Sanchez would be great signings.

I'm glad you're in some sort of agreement with me. I did toy with the Lukaku one myself, admittedly. It just seems like he's the most attainable that fits the bill of what Mourinho stereotypically looks for.

Out of interest, any other forward that intrigues you, as an alternative to Lukaku?

It's really hard to see how we will manage to get in a couple of top few attackers after the Griezmann snub.

You lot must have been suicidal in summer 2006 when we only got Carrick and Kuszczak.

Our squad is not awful. It is awful at finishing golden chances, which all things considered is a very fixable problem.

Have faith, we'll bring in some finishers and it'll go fine next year. Jose knows where the problems are. No need to panic.

I hope we aren't waiting to shift Rooney before finalising moves

it's obviously going to have an effect on our budget...

hopefully he accepts one of the 'many offers' early next week after Carrick's testimonial

I think I do have a bit of a point though.

Maybe a little premature, but if United don't do any business this month. They'll only have the first week of July to do everything before the whole squad (including Woodward etc) fly to the good ol' USA. Then they get back, fly to Macedonia for the Euro Super Cup, fly back and the new season starts.

Again, as of writing I am a little premature. But if it gets to June 30 with still no business done, then I'd be a bit disappointed and it would point to a lack of planning

Imagine the look on Jose's face if we fly to the USA with not one single new player. He will be absolutely furious. He wants most of the business tied up by then. He will be giving Ed a kick on the shins every time he goes past him.

I don't mean to sound like a suicidal Muppet btw. I didn't necessarily think we'd have anyone signed by now, but probably be at that stage where it's inevitable a player or two are coming (I believe a year ago today it was reasonably accepted that Zlatan and Bailly were coming for example)

As United sagas do tend to take the best part of a month, I'm hoping we can get some of that inevitable feeling soon and don't end up in that situation where we fly to USA with no new signings

@LawCharltonBest

I agree that you make a fair point. I think it's the seemingly endless list of players that the club is being linked with, that's making me feel the same way. With the apparent breakdown of the Griezmann deal, there's nothing that feels like it could be on the cusp of being concluded. The Bailly deal from last year is what I keep thinking back to though and I'm hoping for more of the same, where it feels like a story breaks, gathers pace and is concluded within the week.

Appease us, Woody!

Yeah, glad you agree. And another Bailly type deal would be brilliant. Think you need a classy club (like Villarreal are) and agent to be able to do things quickly without media games, trying to create bidding wars etc.

Last season, As I recall from first serious link to completion, Bailly took about 5 days, Mkhitaryan a month, Zlatan about a month (maybe more), and Pogba about 2 months.

Just typing this makes me think I have too much time on my hands. But I am relaxing today before a busy weekend where I'll have no internet luckily

Anyone else feeling rather underwhelmed by the players we are linked to. The Greizmann deal was the one for me that would elevate us to next level, so to say we are prioritising a Lukaku type instead is just not doing it for me. We won League Cup & UEFA cup last season being solid. well organised at the back, so you would have thought we need creative/suppliers/goalscorers but the same names are coming up Lindelof, Keane, Fabinho, Matic none are going to improve our attacking dimension.

It's disappointing not to get Griezmann. I still expect us to start the new season with a big signing wearing the no.7 shirt and a big signing wearing the no.10 shirt, as well as several other new additions. It's very frustrating reading the names the media are linking us to but to be totally honest, I really don't think they have any idea who we're planning to sign.

Despite all the doom and gloom, I think we'll be happy with our transfer dealings when it's all said and done. We have a shit ton of money and Jose is probably the best manager out there when it comes to making quality signings. Not worried!:wenger:

We need some x-factor in our attack. Neymar, Bale, Sanchez etc, players who can score/make a goal out of nothing. I hope Woody has a surprise for us all.

Sanchez would most definitely give us that. I wanted him before he joined Barcelona and before he joined Arsenal, he's a United type player and would be able to carry the pressure of wearing the number seven shirt.

I honestly can't fathom how we have three more months of this.

Transfer season has really revved up in the last 5 years, were barley in June and it's like this...
Yeah Twitter has just turned it into complete madness. When there's no Summer tournament it goes beyond crazy.

This.

It's insane how long a club of our size has gone without this.

2009, except for one season with RVP.

Rashford is not a winger for the long term. He played this past season because we were short of options and Depay and Martial weren't good enough to fill that area. Morata seems to be destined for Milan (although i rate him pretty highly). Fabinho would be good for the defensive midfielder role. Lindelof seems fine to partner Bailly. Rose may not necessarily leave Spurs for us. And I would consider getting Dembele now when no one is actually after him. Once Madrid and Barca come calling, it won't be easy trying to get him then. Not to mention, Tuchel is off, which means we could raid Dortmund a little bit more easily. I would replace Rashford with Dembele on the left and have Luke Shaw/ Blind at left back. Lukaku wouldn't be a bad option for number 9.

Fabinho
Lukaku
Dembele
Lindelof

Would anybody be happy off we signed the Demebles.

Dembele from Spurs. Cover for Herrera/ Pogba
Dembele from Celtic we need a striker

I like this......anybody who says Dembele I like although I'd prefer him on the right with strict instructions to stay wide. I think we could get away with playing Pogba narrow from the left (he seems to drift there anyway) with an attaching fullback providing width that side. We could then have Herrera and Fabinho in CM and 2 of Martial/ Rashford / Lukaku up top.

Could also them swap between 442 and 433 simply by moving Pogba deeper as a CM and pushing Martial/ Rashford wide left and leaving Lukaku through the middle.

For the last couple of years we haven't had a clue what our best 11 is. Would be great to have 11 players who could switch between 2 formations.

What we need is a calm defender, a defensively solid midfielder and two attacking players to bring us some goals. Can't see us making more than four signings, except from a couple of youngsters (for instance Ryan Sessegnon). In defense, Michael Keane would be a brilliant addition to our squad. A lot of people seem to doubt whether he is good enough to be a starter for Manchester United from day one, but I think he has abilities that would make him a perfect partner to Bailly. Looking back to the duo of Vidic and Ferdinand, Bailly is obviously our new Vidic in terms of playing style. In a central defense duo you need complementary abilities, and looking at our squad I would say that Blind is the only centre back that suit as a partner to Bailly. Keane has a much calmer style of defending than the likes of Smalling, Jones and Rojo, and he rarely puts himself in situations where he has to make a last second tackle. He can fall back when Bailly breaks out of the defensive line, and sweep up in the space that he leaves behind him.

In midfield, we need a no-bullshit player that can play in a 433 system in the biggest away games. However, in 9 out of 10 games I would like us to play a more offensive 4231, where Pogba-Herrera should be our preferred duo. This means that the new midfielder will have to be put on the bench in most games, our play in other positions. In short, we need a player for the John Obi Mikel role. I can see us bring in Fabinho to fill this role, since he can be backup for Valencia, Herrera and Pogba when we play 4231.

Our main problem this season has been the lack of goals, and I would like us to bring in James Rodriguez and Alexis Sanchez to add some goals to our attack. Two world class players that are available for reasonable prices (50 and 60 million pounds?) when you see Everton wanting 100 million for Lukaku. This would mean that Rashford is our first choice striker, with Martial as a backup and also the possibility of putting Sanchez up top. Both of them will suit Mourinho as they put in a shift defensively, much more than they have been given credit for lately. Give them a role as star players on a team that wins matches, and they have the warrior mentality that Mourinho likes. This would leave us with this title winning starting 11 in most games:

De Gea
Valencia - Bailly - Keane - Shaw/Darmian
Herrera - Pogba
Mkhitaryan - James - Sanchez
Rashford

Tbh, i haven't seen enough of Belotti, not sure it's wise signing an 18 year old in Mbappe to lead the line either when we already have Rahsford. Morata possibly.

Lukaku isn't the type of the striker that I prefer myself, but I can take him above Belotti for sure. In better conditions we can do better than both, but these and Lacazette are the only available ones.

Lukaku will guarantee goals in small games and this is great solution to our problems this season. He will go missing a lot in big games, though and that's my problem with him, but since Jose prefers defensive approach in big games I think we can go with it and won't be a much hindrance. His biggest problem is his price which, if true, will put extra pressure on him because he doesn't deserve 100m, no not even 70m IMO. He's 50-60m at best.

We won't get many bright names this summer, mostly one after Griezmann failed and I accept this.

This galactico obsession is really irritating. Let us nit forget Herrera, Bailly, Valencia were hardly a galactico signing so let us not term perisic, lacazatte, belotti all average. If anything this galactico approach has hardly been that good for us. If jose buys perisic then I will fully support him. He knows what we need , and he won't buy players for the sake of it.

Great post.
