Summer Transfer Window 2017

That left hand side looks better with Shaw and Martial there imho.

I agree but I doubt the manager will.

Both wings look weak to me. Neither of them will offer us any genuine width. Matic was fantastic when Chelsea resigned him but he lost his way in their 2nd season, i'm not sure what version of Matic we'd be getting, so jury will be out on him. Not seen enough of Lindelof to comment. Morata won't bring in Zlatans goals, so we'll be needing Rashford, Mkhi and Pogba to step up. I'd throw Hererra in with that group but he's useless at shooting.

It's underwhelming I agree, people can talk about plans and tactical this and that, but the PL is a shootout IMO and we are low on firepower of genuine quality, we'll be scrapping for top 4 in my view.

Would be pretty depressing if Mbappe and Dembele end up at Madrid and Barca respectively. They seem like the two players that will eventually take over from the Messi/Ronaldo dominance.

Agreed, the current generation of top attackers have already been missed out on, we need to get at least one of the next crop.

9 days till we go on the tour - pull your finger out Woody, you've had that list since March.

Just 9 Days ? Wow, I thought there was more time before pre-season training started. Hope Woody concludes the deals quickly.

We're leaving in about 9 days, yet we only made one signing so far. I have a feeling our transfer target list is not exactly going as planned. Too early to start panicking considering Jose said - Woody has the list since March and wanted the signings done before the tour?

It's not just United that are operating slowly, City have signed two, Chelsea none, Arsenal none, Spurs none & Liverpool one.

Nobody has actually done much business.

Indeed. Selling clubs must find & tag their replacements too plus It sounds almost impossible to build title winning side in June purely based on vital signings.

An article yesterday possibly gave an insight into how we are conducting our business: apparently we've been trying to agree personal terms with all our targets, then come to a deal with their clubs. Working on multiple deals at a time and seeing which ones we can get over the line.

Do people believe this is what we are doing, and is it the right way to go about our business?

Would it be right to go agreeing terms with players 'just in case', only to disappoint them? Can we remain focused enough, or reactive enough, if we are spreading ourselves thin trying to do multiple deals?

Or, is this the only realistic way of doing it?

It makes me feel a bit like when I've bid on three iPhones on eBay, worry I'm going to end up getting all three, then win none.

I felt in May, when Mourinho said about the list, that United were either going to do business early or do it late.

Early has passed, so late it is

Struggling a bit to figure out whether we're genuinely missing out on our targets as reported by the media, or if they simply don't know who we're after and we're doing our business very quietly.

Transfer season is one time when you would wish for some transparency about what a club is up to, but alas, that's never going to happen.

Must be the second thing. Griezmann deal made some harm imo also. If we had him and Lindelof now the picture would be much better and I think we counted on that or at least put a lot of effort in it before the window.

As for other targets, Morata is certainly one but for others, nobody has a clue and they are all guessing.

Same, at this point I am wondering if we'll actually sign anyone.

Matic and Morata the only ones with some noise so far, Morata the only credible one out of those two. Perisic most likely dead in the water with Inter meeting FFP.

Still much left of the summer, but you'd think there be some noise atleast.

Last summer there seemed to be a clear plan, targeting the spine of the team, getting in a cb, cm, striker and winger. All those transfers made sense, and there was at least some noise about all of them so you could have seen what we were trying to do (Bailly aside). The talk of Zlatan was around since Jose's appointment, the Pogba saga was evident as well, and even with Mkhi, once the stories came out we got him pretty quick. This summer there really doesn't seem to be much on at all. We're evidently after a defensive mid, but you're not sure who exactly it is. Morata seems like the only clearly defined target right now. Not even sure if we're really after another winger or not, if the perisic stories were even true or not. It's all just a big confusing mess.

I don't think that matters a great deal. So any transfers rely on other parties getting the players they want first. When you are near to the top of the food chain you can be at the mercy of other teams procrastination.

Might be waiting for Madrid to secure Mbappe and Chelsea to get Bakayoko in, before we can complete deals for Morata/Matic. We seem to have lost this reported poker game with Inter over Perisic, so may have to move on to other targets there. Plenty of time left in the window to do everything we want, but nothing really looks imminent in terms of the tour. I reckon we'll fly out with the squad as is.

So we have top scouts 'supposedly', a world class manager who has the major task of upgrading a squad which requires major surgery with an almost unlimited budget. Yet, we are targeting players like Matic and Perisic.... what the feck is going on. I should probably just go to sleep.

Bizarre isn't it. I'd bet good money that we are simply getting rejected by our main targets like when City swooped for Silva last minute a day after we said we weren't interested, same seems to be happening with Fabinho. Finishing 6th and our manager using every time he got in front of a camera as an opportunity
to stab his players in the back can't have made us a very desirable

What a load of nonsense. We aren't a desirable destination? Was this before or after Griezmann, one of the elite stars in football was speaking of his interest in us? Or Fabinho, the player supposedly rejecting us, basically name dropping us publicly.

Assuming we are interested, which isn't even a certainty, those players aren't coming because we either aren't paying what's needed or the clubs don't want to sell.

Apart from the money we can offer, no i wouldn't say we are. Especially to attacking players. Griezmann got what he wanted out of us in the same way that Ronaldo does every year.

It has been a dull window so far, good to get a CB in with Lindelof. In an ideal world it would be good to get all business done before the tour, unfortunately things aren't always that simple. There is plenty of time to get the right players in yet. We got Rvp in August before, things can change quickly in football. It's been a frustrating summer with target's. I think Griezmann messed up our plans a bit, dealing with Real Madrid for Morata was always going to be difficult. I thought getting CL football again would make things easier. It's been an odd window with players available and the money teams are demanding. We will be much better this season though, I'm confident of that. We have a better tour planned, the players bought from the previous window(except Zlat) well settle in better. No Thursday nights in a random place in Europe will help our league campaign. Still time to make it a good window yet.

Playing for the most successful club in England with one of the biggest fan bases in the world under a world class coach with a chance of winning the CL isn't desirable? Apart from Real and Barca we are right there beside Bayern as the most desirable in the world imo its just hard because so many world class players are gobbled up by two clubs.

So we are looking at this right now.......

Until we heard some better rumours, we actually look like this

Lol you need to calm down we will sign players. What happens if we sign one of Mbappe Dembele or Verrati are you suddenly changing your opinion? Not saying we are but the window is still young.

Wonder what are the chances of Marchisio leaving Juve, he'd be fantastic under jose in the Makelele role.

If that is our team going into next year we might as well concede top 4 already and we probably will struggle to get out of the grouo stages of the champs league.

Attacking wise it's so poor. If we do indeed sign Morata I refuse to believe we'd be stupid enough going into the new season with him our only new attacker. Griezmann and Morata would've been great but Morata alone is not good enough and we need another quality attacking player to go with him.

So aparantly Fabinho isn't going to the PL, Inter doesn't have to sell Perisic cause of FFP, but can still make a bid for Nainggolan.
Seems like i have even less clue about how FFP works than i thought.

Guess it'll be The less glamorous Matic or Dier we sign for our midfield then.
Meh...!

Im guessing its due to the fact that they had to be at a certain balance by June 30, which is year end. Since July is the beginning of a new year, they dont have to worry about FFP for the next few months and can spend again.

The only thing I learned today is that I don't know anything about it. You sell a bunch of no ones, keep your good player and if the rival team is so stupid and only aware on the last day that they are in FFP problem, bid for their best player with the amount which is higher than the profit you needed to collect before.

Something like that.

Yeah, that also makes sense.

I thought it might have to do with the date, thanks for clearing it up :)

On a scale of 1-10 would you say you're more(10) or less(1) nervous this transfer window than the previous 4.

2013
2014
2015
2016

Will be impressed if the front 3 manage more than 20 goals in the season combined.

After last summer, and then winning the Europa League to gain entry into the CL we had all the momentum to go big again this year and really full our team with the players we needed to push on again. Instead, that team looks worse than last season and we'll seriously struggle to finish 4th.

Unfortunately this really is the case. Hopefully we have a major signing up our sleeve, which will be announced out of nowhere. Major wishful thinking here though.
