It would be the best thing I've ever seen.
I see you're trying to hold onto your muppet of the year title.

That made me chuckle. I won that with 50% of the votes. 2 (two) votes.

"I want to stop seeing the best players go to other clubs in Spain, I want us to be standing out as the biggest club in the world. We’ll do absolutely everything we can to achieve that."

It's time to deliver on that mission statement. Real Madrid are willing to spend €120m on Pogba? feck Real Madrid. Spend £120m and bring him back. Put the club back on the map.

We're a huge club and can raise his profile in just the same way Madrid can, we've got the Mourinho factor and he can still move to Madrid in 4 or 5 years when he's in his prime (and given us some of his best years). We'll still turn a profit on him and have a few trophies to boot.

We've got the money to embarrass Real. It would be an absolutely huge watershed moment if we outmuscle them for a player of Pogba's profile. We need to put up money for him that makes the Spanish banks colon wither.

I agree with these sentiments but it comes down to whether Pogba would want to join us over Real Madrid. If he is happy to return then I would love to see us outbid Madrid. It'd be wonderful to beat them to a big signing and watch as their propaganda machine starts churning out stories about how they didn't actually want him in the first place.

In reality though we all know it's not going to happen.

Personally think Stones is better than Baily when all things are considered. People will get to see this next season.Defense is not where you expect a young player to be ready from the get go.
I saw Bailly in the last nations cup and he didn't strike me as someone who is a top defender.people will get to see this next season,he is mostly physical attributes and pairing him with Smalling is disaster waiting to happen. The cafe will jump on you and harras you if you question the special ones decision as he is the all knowing but we shall see.
Some crap stuff like a defender is primarily there to defend
, I call it nonsense as you will come to see that most top teams in europe have defenders with good technical abilities.
If a defender is primarily there to defend while then do you need the whole team e.g the Wide forward to defend and midfielders and attackers to put a defensive shift. Why not everybody concentrate on his job?
Football has evolved and ball playing defenders are becoming more important component of a top team, full backs must be as good defensively as they are attacking, the game has changed!

Those same people will be happy to see the back of Daley Blind. Crazy.

I'm predicting that Stones will have a decent tournament and will become the player that everyone was touting a few years ago. He's got massive potential. Bailly is a different kind of defender, and would probably make a good partner for Stones. I don't think he compares to Stones in ability at all though.

I honestly think both Pogba and Raiola have the Zlatan model in mind for his career. He's going to be spending 3 or 4 years at each club. If we can make it a lucrative 4 years for him with the prospect of winning trophies and raising his profile further and still having the chance to move to Real later on to make even more money and raise his profile in other parts of the world I think they'd both take it.

Move to Real now and there's the usual "where next" question. Probably only PSG at that point and would he want to be in France at 28/29? It's a much better trajectory for him to own the Premier League at United before moving to La Liga for huge money.

So we're to believe that Stones could sign for Barca, but is choosing City?

Regardless, they're really upping the ante for next season. Gundogan, Stones, Laporte, Aubameyang.....added to their current squad is very impressive and shows real ambition from Pep and City. Assuming they all sign as expected, that is.
Could well be true.

City want him more, offer much higher wages. He stays in home country avoiding many other potential issues.

If Barca went all out for him, which I highly doubt they did then I don't think he'd turn them down.

Nonsense post. Stones has been called overrated whenever he was linked to United too. Next time, before taking the high ground or whatever you wanted to prove it with this post, try using your brain.
Have You gone through the whole thread to see how many posters for Stones, Gundogan, Laporte, Pogba to be signed for United but when the link to City was stronger they're called overrated? Before you ask me to use my brain, maybe you should check yourself.

While true, there's no evidence that we're trying to sign him, having Manchester United in the title is merely there for clickbait.

Were we not all over this last summer, I don't think he is leaving but we have been heavily linked over the past year tbh

He refused to play with team-mates like Messi, Suarez and Neymar. Sounds about right.

Yeah we were linked last year absolutely. But there's nothing to suggest we're interested this year.
I wouldn't be surprised if the article barely mentions United planning a bid or anything. Our name is just there for click bait.

True, but if he's actually going to be sold, we should spend whatever it takes.

Not sure spending all our cash on Neymar is such a good thing, hypothetically speaking. We can do better. Neymar is one of those youngsters with so much ability he doesn't know what to do with it. He went to Barcelona too early imo and seems more interested in looking good and being a celebrity. Of course he is quality, and has the potential to be better than (cough) Messi. But I don't think his head is in the right place. We need Rashfords: down to Earth lads who just want to play football.

would be a dream move, no matter how much the difference was, getting rid of awful rightback and getting world class midfielder, too good to be true, last time we sold them a fullback it wasn't that good business though

Haha, did I set myself up for an over zealous fanboy backlash? I should be more humble when referring to he who is too worthy to name (in the wrong context).
:smirk:
Nah, not a fanboy of anyone. But Messi is a once in a lifetime footballer. His development was perfect, his teams were perfect and the only one in recent memory that's filled his potential properly (At Club level at least, still hope with Argentina though). That said, I have tremendous respect for CR too, probably the only one who's exceeded his own potential through sheer hard work and determination.

That's not saying Neymar can't become better than both of them (He'll probably do better than Ronaldo as well), but it would need a lot of things to go right for him and he needs that insane levels of drive and determination that Ronaldo possessed to overtake Messi.

Edit:Also, both Ronaldo and Messi had already won the Ballon D'Or by his age, but yeah, the situation back then was completely different.

You're absolutely right. Messi had certain 'conditions' that were perfect for him and helped him to flourish. He also had the right mentality, which is where Neymar falls short. That was my point more or less; that Neymar has the potential but is too obsessed with his celebrity status, his hair and tattoos and his scarily good chum Beiber.

Edit: I believe it was Fergie who said of Ronaldo, "Talent is nothing without an incredible amount of hard work."

Money, level of ambition and guarantee of football is always a factor.
I don't see any of them being a problem at Barcelona. If they want him, wages are definitely not going to be a factor. This whole thing looks like a made up rumor. Also, when has Barcelona ever bought a strong English center back?
