Kante was not trusted thus Pogba had to be sacrifice to hold that midfield. Santos noticed the lack of option in France squad and overcrowded the midfield while deployed Sanchez to keep running through middle to prevent France to be able to push up their midfield line. You have Makelele, you can easily tell how Kante is far inferior (playing for France) in the deep lying role to Makelele.

I detailed this already in the Deschamps threads.

I am not saying Kante is bad, but. Kante is bad fit for what United is looking for compared to Matuidi. Conte signed Kante so he should know how to utilize Kante better than what Kante is used in France team.

One season. There has many players who has one great season and disappear. Moving to another club and play in a different system. Kante didn't do well with France different set up. Matuidi has been used in different system in the past and proven himself. Covering a lot of ground needs context. Kante runs a lot to get into the the action try to win the ball. Matuidi runs a lot to cover the open area. Kante can batter some fodder but a good team and good player can exploit this type of action centered player. Matuidi did a team work which is vital in big games when great players only need a little space to influence game.

I don't argue with the rest of your post. We're clearly focus on chasing Pogba.

He was great for Caen as well in his last season.

I agree, however, even though Rooney is nowhere near the player he threatened to become years ago, he was actually still one of our best players under LVG, which putting it bluntly says a lot about LVG and his purchases during his time here...leading on

Hit the nail on the head. Even before Mourinhos first buys, we actually have a big squad and plenty of numbers, we are just lacking in the most important part of the squad, namely the starting eleven. Could be argued 6 or 7 players needed in terms of a quality starting eleven, which considerign the money spent by both Moyes and LVG is ludicrous really. If we landed Pogba and there werent any other signings I would be happy with what has com ein this window. We would have enough quality for a first eleven to compete for the title, and hopefully one or more of the youngsters around the first team of Januzaj, Tuanzabe, Perreira can step up as Rashford has. More concerned about outgoings as the numbers are large and from a personal point of view we have quite a few players I really dont like seeing in our shirt to be blunt.

I don't know that. Thanks for the info. He may continue his improving trend, I am not sure. Our need would require Kante to improve/ change in a drastical way, that is way too risky than someone like Matuidi who is closer to the profile we need.

The opposite. Mkhi was a bit shite when played as RW with no attacking FB to support him. Mkhi is a fab #10. Dortmund got Kagawa back who can only play as #10. So that forced Mkhi out to #7.

I know I thought this. It wasn't long ago he was highly rated, don't know if he still is or he's dropped a bit but then again he was getting linked with Newcastle and their french contingent.

Literally every week there's a report about Diego asking to leave. No matter that the club, Conte, and the Diego himself have said he's staying.

I think noone would mind Rooney here on good form. He still has his moments of greatness, but they are too few and far between. The problem for me is i think he'll have trouble producing good enough form for long enough of the season to justify his salary. Its up to him to prove me wrong.

I hope, and think, that we can trust Mourinho to play the best players at any given time, without letting a players name or former glory affect his choices.

He's been perma-injured in the last 2 years and couldn't get in the OL XI when fit. He has too big wages for a sub so Lyon want to get rid of him.

Dangerously, I see this forthcoming.
Its a bad situation we find ourselves in. It would seem we fly out on Tuesday to China for a week or so. I seriously doubt we will hear anything over this in the coming days and when we are away Madrid will have the time to wrap up some sales and get negotiating for the Pog.

Lets be real here we have had plenty of time to wrap things up in terms of paying his fee in the last few days, even if he has been on holiday he supposedly has agreed terms for about a month. Why would we bother to wait to formulate an official bid? I dunno. Im very pessimistic over this one. Shades of Vidal.

Lets thing about it logically, Jose would want to be there for all the silly photos. Well want Ed there also and I presume he is off to China also. Stick a fork in it lads. Looks like this Turkey is cooked.

How is he a bad fit for United compared to Matuidi? We don't need either IMO but if we are going for a ground covering ball hunter who is defensively aware then I don't see any reason to opt for the older guy from another league.
