I caught few games of him at DM. Seems similar to Gilberto Silva. Interesting indeed. Not sure whether he would be our RB or DM at this rate.
Didn't realise Fabinho was only 22, thought he was already in his mid twenties by now. Would be a smart signing.
My guess would be that he would start at right back and then be moved to DM for the last 20 minutes if we are winning as we protect the lead.
Interesting. Not seen much of him so assumed he'd be more of the 'modern' type of full back, spending more time attacking than defending.

The deep lying role in our midfield is nowhere solid IMO. We can still be very vulnerable against certain team like Spurs with Carrick, Bastian, Blind kind of deep lying midfielder.

Varela has been here for 3 years or less if considering his loan spell. As we see plenty of him, his ceiling is not that high. He has not improved much since his arrival and not reliable defensively. Not particular young either. Rather this developing time goes to a younger player.

That's the thing for me though, Mourinho isn't a fool, if he wanted a workhorse he'd have gone for him over Matuidi, I just don't see how either of them would be an alternative to Pogba who is a dynamic attacking midfielder.
Sorry, this is terrible argument. Matuidi is not your Kante kind of workhorse. Matuidi offer presence and being more useful offensive while certain good contribution in defense too. Matuidi is more balanced and easier to utilize than Kante. Matuidi has showed more tactical discipline than what. I see from Kante. Matuidi often does well in big game too for several seasons.
Kante only has one season to talk about. There is nothing to suggest he still has room to improve. To replicate his last season form may also be another question. The kind of workhorse like Kante can disharmonize a team balance if not being used correctly. Matuidi type is more like Fletcher and less self destruct.
Why is there nothing to suggest Kante can't improve? He has also done it in the PL where each game is a contest, instead of riding the horse in a one horse race every season. Matuidi gets forward more than Kante but the biggest asset both have is they cover a lot of ground, neither have real sustained quality on the ball, and I didn't want us to buy either of them, I was just pointing out how neither have anything like what Pogba or Pjanic would bring to United so they shouldn't be seen as a an alternative if the Pogba deal doesn't happen.
One season. There has many players who has one great season and disappear. Moving to another club and play in a different system. Kante didn't do well with France different set up. Matuidi has been used in different system in the past and proven himself. Covering a lot of ground needs context. Kante runs a lot to get into the the action try to win the ball. Matuidi runs a lot to cover the open area. Kante can batter some fodder but a good team and good player can exploit this type of action centered player. Matuidi did a team work which is vital in big games when great players only need a little space to influence game.
I don't argue with the rest of your post. We're clearly focus on chasing Pogba.
Why do people keep saying Kante didn't do well for France? After Payet he was their best player when he was in the team. After his yellow card suspension he was only kept out of the team because Sissoko played out of his mind and Deschamps didn't want to mess up the chemistry.
They probably would've won the Euro's had Kante played and allowed Pogba to move up to his actual position in the final.
