Television Succession

I just felt like it was far too obvious of an ending.

As soon as I saw Tom meeting with Matsson I knew it was him.

Series finales are always tricky and you can't satisfy everyone but I think I hated it.

Loved the ending and it was the perfect choice in all honesty.

Nobody else really deserved it

Pain sponge.

Everything and almost anyone who was relevant in the show was referenced or seen in the last episode, which was really nice.

Matsson got all that he wanted and more, including Tom and Shiv. Shiv wanted to be more than he brothers and has now ended up beneath Matsson and Tom.

The show was always about the siblings and how they individually and collectively would determine the succession....and that did not disappoint.

But fecking hell Shiv, feck that is sooooo cnutish. Then saddling up next to Tom...no fecking shame for either of them.

Brilliant finale. The scene when they showed clips of Logan with the old guard having fun, with Connor and Kerri beside him was a good characterisation of how kids never really knew that side of their father. They never really got the family part, because all of them are miserable, competitive and incredibly narcissistic pricks, who only think in one direction - for themselves. And Logan made them like that.

My gripe with the ending is that essentially it rendered the last 3.5 seasons pointless. They could have ended the show after Season 1 episode 6 and the only difference would be Logan was alive then.

I have said it many times here this show isn't for the plot which is fine, but at the end there was no character development either for any of the siblings. Even if neither of them were to get it, it should have been done in a different way where it felt that they at least changed as people.

Jesse Armstrong has gone on record saying that he doesn't believe people change, which may be true for the real world but that does not translate into a great story. I understand that they couldn't make the characters different overnight but they should have built towards it after Logan's death.

Still one of my favourite shows of all time but the ending left a bit to be desired.

That was a phenomenal episode of television. Was on the edge of my seat at the end even if I knew where it was going. People mad that their favourite "babygirl" didn't win:rolleyes:. If you didn't enjoy that episode I don't understand how you ever enjoyed Succession because that was peak succession. The siblings together in Barbados, the boardroom. My only real complaint is that I would've liked to have seen more of the old guard this season.

Yeah she was purely in it for her, nothing else mattered

Unlike Kendal who was only in it for... him.

The whole point is that they don't change, it's a destructive cycle. At least now Kendal and Roman are free of it. It's not game of thrones, who wins the throne then is going to usher in a grand better future. That seat is poison. How does it render the 3.5 seasons pointless?? because Kendal isn't ceo?? or one of the other ones? The point isn't about who sits on the "throne" in the end, it's about the journey there which has been fecking phenomenal.

Have I missed something totally, or has that stuff about Kendall's kids been mentioned before?

I mean, what an absolutely stellar scene that was, 3 of them were firing. I wasn't sure if I should feel bad for Kendall really, since he is an absolute asshole, but to have Shiv and Roman("Just not real....real" what the feck) bury him like that out of nowhere like 30 seconds after he thought he was about to get his sole dream.

Also.... "which?" - world class self-destruction.

I always thought the daughter was adopted and the son was Rava’s from a previous relationship. I think Ken was stunned by how crude Roman was about it because it’s clearly a sensitive topic for him.

Logan says as much when says he wants a future where he gets to play with his grand kids and in the Boar on the floor episode he asks Tom when he’s going to get him one.

Anyone else think this whole story is sort of like shutter island? There’s possibly a simple straightforward storyline where an aging mogul sells his property to an up and coming tech billionaire. This whole complicated saga is being told only from the kids perspective where the adults are only engaging them playing with plastic knives while keeping the real knives away.

Not gonna lie, I've just searched them. And I didn't even know they had appeared in the show, because it's obviously a bit more obvious, and quite a debated topic without the show outright confirming it until this episode. Top class nastiness from Roman though, given he knows how much heritage will matter at that level of obsession with power... but I guess when you've just got told that a murder you were trusted with may or may not actually be randomly made up, or not... then you say you what you got to. Roman don't care while Shiv and Ken care far too much about the power, only to both lose it with their own issues.

There must be scenes left on the cutting room floor. I swear Ken and Frank were planning a counter offensive against Mattson just 2 episodes ago

Two things I didn’t really like.

1. Because feelings Shiv decided to trust the one person she knew that she definitely couldn’t trust (who just literally used her) rather than her brothers. I don’t see why if Matsson tossed her aside why wouldn’t just do the same with Tom?

2.Lots being made of Shiv’s 180 degree pivot but not Roman. He was also well into the idea but as soon as Shiv put up any sort of resistance he essentially did the same thing. Then came the cheap shots from both about Kendall’s kids and his past.

The Shiv thing just seemed out of character to me. She had gone against Ken before with the hit piece statement she put out but that was a retaliation to Ken fecking her over with the Nirvana song in her presentation. This time all was well and it just didn’t seem right for her to pivot like that at the drop of a hat.

Not sure what's not necessary to not like there really, pretty inevitable to me. It's just who they are - collectively as a trio, they were never going to accept any of the others being ahead and step aside like Connor, who as we can tell, is so well thought of, Ken forgets he exists as a sibling. Sure they'll have their moments of bonding, but when the crunch comes... absolutely minor things will drive them to their own agendas again... Shiv didn't like Kendall being ultra arrogant in the moments leading to the vote, and Roman wasn't exactly super confident in his vote either....

Shiv can accept Tom, because she was the one who (unintentionally?) sold him to Matsson... she knows he's a puppet, but with the puppet power she wanted, and stable image she absurdly craved.

Once the dust has settled, they can just bond as ultra rich siblings, I mean Kendall was already trying to work Frank with Roman straight after fighting him

Romans vote was already locked in.

The shiv thing was the most shiv thing she's ever done imo. Totally in character for her. If she can't have it, no one can and would sooner the company fecking sold to a cnut than watch her brother do the job she wanted despite not having any credentials whatsoever to do said job other than her surname. One of the most entitled characters ever.

Kendal has consistently shut her out this season and why exactly would she believe that it would be any different when he's CEO. At least Tom is her husband and they're having a kid so she thinks she might have some control there. And yea obviously she doesn't want it to be Kendal in the end just like Kendal couldn't accept that it would be anyone other than him.

Roman has always been extremely consistent in following along. He did it when Logan and he did it when Kendal convinced him to go behind Shiv's back to try and keep the company. And Roman was the only one in the beginning who wanted to just stick to the three siblings doing something new and he let himself be talked into the Pierce thing and then the duo CEO/keeping the company thing.

Kendal literally physically harmed Roman three minutes before that, before people start about cheap shots. He was clearly very much losing it. Talking about Roman not being able to do it because he's weak but Kendal is always three minutes away from a meltdown.

I think it all makes sense when you realize that the only people taking the kids seriously are the kids themselves and the grown ups simply indulge them while knowing the game happens above their heads and without their involvement.

Seen a few theories that suggests he did this on purpose as Roman is a bit of a masochist, to calm him down after his meltdown with Gerri

It wasn't a satisfying end to watch, but it fit the show perfectly. How spontaneous was Shiv's betrayal though? I mean on one hand it seemed like it was an emotional reaction right on the spot, but on the other hand Stewy walked off with her to flip the two Sandys and they didn't, so did Shiv set this up the gridlock in the background or was it just coincidence?

I took it as another way of slapping some sense into him.

Tom and Matsson both just stabbed her in the back. There's no way she's going to have control here. It was just typical Shiv pettiness, fecking them all over, because she was jealous of Ken getting the job. I mean imagine arguing for yourself as CEO, when you have absolutely no business experience and you have been working for the other side until they dumped you five minutes ago. That level of delusion rules out any strategic reasoning almost entirely.

I agree. I am fully aware that it’s well within her character to do such a thing but it was just a bit too sudden. I just didn’t like how they portrayed it on screen but it did make sense.

It wasn't spontaneous to be fair... her being uncomfortable with it was shown with facial gestures and mannerisms leading up to it, and then she was conveniently the last vote in a tie, which was probably the breaker. Knowing it's essentially totally on you, anyone with that level of resentment towards it is going to have a meltdown.

If they did the votes anonymously on paper... it's likely 8-5... since I'd hazard a guess both Shiv and Roman would vote against him.

To be fair it didn’t really matter about the order if she voted for the deal. They didn’t have the numbers without her.
Shiv makes faces at everything. She’s Jim Halpert.

Well I think the order does matter, she was probably hoping for Roman to be the killer. She goes first, she votes in favour of Ken, nailed, hoping Roman ends up doing the dirty... which he probably would, because if it wasn't one, it'd be the other, given they know they are the swing votes. It was just better for dramatic effect to be Shiv. Ken relying on them is insane, he knows them better than we do

I think the order mattered hugely. If she was third to vote it wouldn’t have weighed so heavy on her. Being last meant the decision was essentially hers.

I don’t agree personally. Her reasoning didn’t change due to the order of the vote. That was just for dramatic effect

I enjoyed that.

None of them ending up with anything and all miserable is probably fair. They're all horrible and inept. With that said, Roman, horrible prick though he is, it was still grating to see him concede to that cnut, Matsson.

Ken pushing Roman's cut into his shoulder was awful. I hated that scene and really fecking hated Kendall for it.

"Never liked eyes. I don't like thinking about balls of jelly rolling around in my head. Ugh." Line of the episode.

Tom and Greg's slap fight, shades of Rocky/Drago.

Anyone think they could come back to it? For either a 5th season or a spin-off? I hope so. One of the rare shows where I'm left wanting more after it's finished. 1 or 2 more seasons would be fine by me.

I thought it was mutual to be honest.

I liked the finiale overall.

But let's be honest. A dramatic about-face for the final person to vote is pretty corny.

Yeah but not even a scene of Frank turning him down or Ken being told he’s not playing ball? It was a dramatic scene that ended an episode and it’s almost as if it didn’t happen. Just out of the blue, Frank is a lock for them
