Suarez

Arsenal to make a £41m bid tomorrow from our usual reliable sources.

I think there was a quote one of Brendan's interviews in Asia where he said he's not for sale. And even if he really wanted out then we weren't going to consider anything less than his compadre's value (i.e. Cavani £55m).

Lol the sky had actual facts and quotes. Not the ones you were looking for. He's talking out his arse though imo about the price. All the baggage for me is easily worth slashing the price in half.

"However, Suarez's advisors are convinced that the forward has a clause in his contract that stipulates he can leave if any club meets a £40m valuation."

How is something like that ambiguous? Either he has the clause or he doesn't. I hate transfer season!

Some 'well placed' sources have said that the rumours about a £40m clause are false (Rodgers talking about him being in Cavani's bracket also suggest this clause is non-existent). Indeed, they also say that there are elements that are trying to drive Suarez' price down towards £30-£40m, whereas we value him higher than that.

In any case, I'm glad that we hold the cards and are playing hardball for once.

I am sure that I read somewhere that the clause of 40m is not mandatory and Liverpool are not required to sell the player, but only to consider it. It doesn't make sense but who knows.

I read that too somewhere - and as you say it makes no sense. What does "consider" mean in this context? I suspect it's just a misunderstanding of the concept. I also read that it's unclear exactly what Suarez' contract says, i.e. whether it has a standard release clause or some kind of...something added to it: The club claim this and his agent, apparently, claims that. Seems strange that it should be a point of debate - though it would by typical of the fecker to have installed an ambiguous clause in his contract. Can't have enough drama and controversy.

Not sure anyone outside the club really knows the facts about any clause. The rumour is there is something in there that if a club bids £40 million the player
has to be made aware, though the club are not obligated to accept the bid. Which alone is confusing enough.

It's clear the club are digging their heels in and do not want to or have to sell. Whilst he comes with some baggage, Cavani went for £55m so as Brendan has said LFC are within their rights to demand a similar fee. Clearly Arsenal's first bid is nowhere near that.

Unless someone puts in a massive bid he is staying I think.

Suarez has had one world class season (I'm not counting the Dutch league). Cavani and Falcao have been scoring 30+ goals consistently for years in top leagues. Suarez also comes with a lot of baggage. No way he's a £55 million player.

He's better than Cavani I'd say. One of the top strikers in world football.... seems like he's worth around that figure based on recent transfers.

Then unless he refuses to play we don't have to get rid. Which we don't want to this season anyway.

Falcao played in the Portuguese league before the last two seasons in Spain. Is it that much better than the Dutch league?

Suarez has scored 35 times in 65 games for Uruguay. Cavani's record is 17 in 54 games. I'd imagine Luis Suarez probably has more assists too. He is a better all round player, & I can understand why the club put him in the same price bracket as Cavani. There's no way his 'baggage' takes 10 to 15 million off his value.

If he puts in a transfer request and basically says 'I'm not playing for you,' then his 'baggage' will account for that figure.

Not saying I approve of that, but it's true.

Berbatov did that but we still had to pay 30.75m to get him.

True that if he is desperate to leave it is going to make it harder to get his full value - especially as PSG, Monaco, City, Real and Barca have all pretty much blown their wad already. Real are still a possibility perhaps but can't see any of the others buying. Doubt Bayern are interested with Lewandowski coming next season.

They might have to hold on to an unhappy player or sell within the premier league (Arsenal or Chelsea).

Until he actually puts in a transfer request though his value is still 50 million plus.

I agree. But he's not in a situation where you can get his full value, so £42-45m is probably going to be the fee. Unless you keep him and he shows some respect, which would be the best option.

Whilst I can see the merit of the discussion on his valuation, the fact is LFC are right. He is a top player, on a long term contract and the club don't want to sell him.
If someone wants to buy they need to put in a very good offer and so far it has been well short of that.

If Newcastle can sell Carroll to us for £35m (jeez), then Suarez is worth more than £50m.

 35 million for Carroll. Gets me everytime. Still can't believe you lot paid that.

You can't use retarded deals to justify prices.

Carroll can't be used as a baseline for transfer fees. Liverpool paid an absurd amount, that doesn't mean all subsequent transfers should be similarly nuts.

It's an example not a "baseline". LFC value the player as a similar amount to what Cavani went for. That's their right as he is an LFC player.

Anyway why shouldn't it be a high figure, the club don't want to sell and he is one of Europe's top strikers on a fairly long contract.

Up to clubs to put up or shut up if they are interested.

Sadly for you, Kenny Dalglish isnt manager anywhere else. So that particular fee is entirely irrelevant. There were single celled amoeba's sitting under a rock just outside death valley who thought 'what fecking idiots' when they heard how much that transfer fee was.

The only people who thought Carrol was worth £35 million were dalglish, commoli, and a for about a week, half of liverpool.

I wish I could see what RAWK looked like on the day the carroll deal was announced.

The RAWK meltdown twitter account had a bit of an Andy Carroll special earlier. This was the reaction at the time. Utter retardedness.

It's a poor example. United could pay 72m for Nigel Reo Coker. It doesn't mean Gundogan is automatically worth 100m.

Did you not sign Suarez in the same window for £22m? Now that Carroll's just been sold for £15m, Suarez must only be worth about £9.5m now. Can't really argue with that logic can you?
