Sturridge - Sky’s new entertainer :(

He is just stratospheric levels of cringe.

Absolute embarrassment. Obviously perfect for Sky who are desperate for caricatures instead of pundits.

Was this his audition tape? Someone at Sky saw this and thought this is what they needed...

When are the current tv rights deals ending? Hopefully Amazon buy them all.
They run out at the end of next season, so there be bidding at the end of this season.

According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League will not push for the 3pm blackout to be abolished, in line with the English Football League’s (EFL) recent television deal. Instead, the top flight will increase the number of matches on Friday and Monday nights, while also making every fixture played on Sunday eligible for live coverage.

There will reportedly be fewer packages available, with each bundle containing more matches. Amazon’s package of 20 matches, or two full rounds of fixtures, will not be available.

They're going for the stuff that Henry, Richards, Abdo etc do. Stuff they can post to Twitter and Tiktok in 30 second nuggets of "LOOK!"

Being honest, who actually cares about the punditry and analysis on these shows anyway? Half time and post-match is generally 15 minutes. In that 15 minutes, you get; ads, back from ads, "Talk us through the goal/s" ads, back from ads, ads for for their own platform's shows, back to the match/program over.
Thierry Henry? He's a serious pundit

I mentioned it before regarding Micah Richards, this is the crap we're moving towards when it comes to punditry. Just there for clicks and generating social media interactions than actual insightful analysis, similar to what it is in the US. It's entertainment rather than analysis.

Keane is no different, the only reason he's there is that he's the ying to Richards yang. He's the grumpy old head who complains about everything, but eventually talks as much sense as Richards.

Very very few pundits are actually worth listening to these days.

Pretty much how it goes. I turn it on a kick off, leave at galf time and turn it off when the ref blows the final whistle.

I don't really mind it but then again, I'm not a student of the game like most on here are. Not sure how I made it past the newbies!

Thought he was good yesterday. You have to pair him with Keane as the salve to Keane's seriousness, same as Micah. On his own he would be annoying, as is Micah, but you put them with a Keane/Souness and it's great TV. Also, thought it was good how he was asking some probing questions to some of the Liverpool players without annoying them.

He'll calm down. I think he cares what people think and with negative feedback will dial it back a few notches.

I guess those interactions will gauge who the most vocal viewership is and probably determine his path for him as he's clearly capable of giving insight and asking worthwhile questions.

Micah is not annoying at all, why is there so much dislike towards Micah?!

Micha is really good and always there for a laugh

This guy is a fecking clown

Tune in next week to see Dan beat box and watch has he interviews Klopp about todays biggest R&B artists!

I honestly can’t watch the coverage these days and haven’t for a few years, just switch on for the game itself. Complete contrast to the cricket which Sky have done brilliantly for years and still do.

Damn right, the coverage for the Cricket and for the Golf are absolutely mint. Love hearing the commentators and pundits for those whereas football you could honestly just watch on mute and be better for it.

Keane is old school, he wants a football pundit to talk about football .. plain and simple.

Sky Sports has been steadily declining in quality over recent years, many of the half decent people have jumped ship in recent times.

I hope Keane decides this circus is not for him and leaves, maybe then Sky will wake up and realise the path they are on.

In fairness, Ive stopped watching the pundits rubbish and just watch the games, dont get me started on Soccer Saturday, they have absolutely killed that as a decent watch.

What's annoying for me about it is that I think they believe this is what a younger audience wants...? I may not be as young as I was (hitting 30 soon) but I still consider myself as of the type of generation they're hoping to target with pundits like this and getting YouTube stars involved with stuff and I really hate it. I think there are some who are good at what they do and to a professional standard (Baz from Toffee Tv is always good on the Overlap, as are a few of the other people on that) but then there are some who are just cringe monsters.

Was about to say I don't think this content is going to be appealing to most millenials or Gen Z so not sure who they're trying to appeal to here.

I switch on for the game, go and do something useful at HT, then switch off at FT. As somebody said they don't want insightful punditry any longer. Just waiting for Jimmy Bullard to turn up. Even the presenter is lapping it up. Keane is the only adult amongst them. Although I do find Micah Richards quite endearing.

Sky won't be happy until they've turned punditry into a YouTube shorts highlight show. That's all it's for now. TikTok and Youtube Shorts clip from their punditry. Started with that cnut Micah Richards, who is basically a cartoon of himself these days, and they are trying to build this "Roy/Micah" partnership, and I can just tell that Keano isn't really into it.

With this new cnut Sturridge coming in, talking like a roadman and singing Usher and shit at the age of 33 when he really should know better, then it's only a short hop then to Jesse Lingard rocking up and doing shit dances and rapping and shouting "BEANS, BEANS, BEANS" as pre match punditry.

Does this matter. As the poster above mentioned Nedum Onouha is an ex player who offers outstanding insight and should be getting this sort of gig. Far better than listening to a giant of a game that you appear to seek like Michael Owen
Yea, it's not a rule or anything, but you'd expect the top top footballers to be more insightful than your run of the mill footballers. Thierry Henry or Robin van Persie did a great bit a year or so ago on how strikers try and find space where there is none. I doubt you'd get that level of insight from Troy Deeney, or Grant Holt etc.

Also agree with Nedum Onuoha - I'd love to see him on Sky or BT as a regular pundit.

The way Sky are going though with Micah (who admittedly isn't that bad), and now Sturridge (who is that bad) makes me think clicks, viral moments, people doing what we're doing (i.e. talking about it ad infinitum) is a better package than actual insightful analysis. Evra is always great TV and a character, but he's someone that's been there and done it on the big stage multiple times. Sturridge is just an average player who isn't playing because he's under investigation.

Because if I want to laugh I'd listen to comedy sketch and not Sky Sports Post Match Analysis. That is again the problem, these shows should not be there for entertainment but rather analysis, a few quips here and there is fine but Micah only offers jokes and zero worthwhile analysis aside from cliched lines. Micah can have his own show where he jokes about like that Saturday Social show.

Someone mentioned Sky Sports cricket coverage, that is a great example of what analysis should be. Great insights whose purpose is to talk about and analyze the match rather than make people laugh.

I think at the very least it was almost certainly planned for him to do a bit of singing before they went off air. Just felt so fake and engineered. I would honestly take Souness over him and I fecking hated Souness.

The difference was that Souness was shit because he talked bollocks and showed clear bias, but at least he wasn't fecking irritating.

I get that some don’t like Micah, for me he’s just on the right side of professional for me to enjoy when he’s on. He’s good on both MOTD with Lineker and Shearer and on Sky with Roy in my opinion, he likes a laugh but it doesn’t tend to go too far

Sturridge on the other hand is both dreadful at punditry and a complete weapon to boot, you can feel the cringe in the studio I feel embarrassed for his co workers.

I don't massively dislike him but he does grate on me.

He's basically ridden on City's coat-tails because he played for them when they were shite. So he just gets to sit in the studio and have a great time because his club is never in any jeopardy. He never has to call out anyone from his own club. He just makes a joke, does a big laugh and grins away.

In the last few months he's attempted to actually add some analysis to his game but it's long overdue.

If Keane wasn't interested in being part of a circus, he wouldn't have dressed up as a literal clown in that ad.

That's one of the worst things I've ever seen

1. It's entirely possible that he could grow into the role

2. It's entirely possible that you are not the target and Sky don't give a feck what you think

3. It's entirely possible to ignore and continue living your (probably miserable) lives oblivious to all this

I didn't realise it was Sturridge at first and just presumed it was some presenter for Love Island or whatever. They're whole existence is cringe so I didn't mind it. Is it because he's an ex footballer?

What the actual feck was that?

Even taking out the cringe he just named some players from each team and said who he'd thought would win without giving reasons.
