Strikers we could buy?

You can repeat it but it doesn't make it so, Martial needs to learn to put the fecking work in, if Mata can learn how to do it then a young, powerful athlete like Martial can learn how to do it. We have no problem creating chances with Pogba, Mata and Herrera, we have a problem scoring them, Martial needs to study the likes of Reus and Hazard and learn his role. We need a #9 that can do what Ibra/Drogba/Benzema does, that is a Jose #9, my guess is we'll go for Andre Silva, his game is very similar to Benzema and Diego Costa.

Hazard was never a striker.

Regarding Martial, I've seen the script already at Juventus with Thierry Henry. The boy will not cut it on the flanks and we'll be forced to let him go on cheap. He'll thrive in his natural role, somewhere else and we'll look like proper idiots.

A striker is a striker and a winger is a winger. Some might be able to do the shift from striker to AML but that's a rare thing

Martial isn't either IMO, he's a wide forward like Neymar/Hazard/Reus/Bale.

I disagree. I think he'll be a fantastic striker. His instinct is to score goals, although he does have to work a bit more on his goalscoring skills.

But he's a striker, not a winger dude.

His best asset is his dribbling off the wing, he glides past players just like the players I mentioned. I don't see any logic in removing him from that role in a hit and hope guess that he might be better as a striker, when we'd then need to fork out £60M or more to replace those goals from the left anyway.

@GlastonSpur dine out on us being cap, whilst you win nothing.

Enjoy it while it lasts Glaston, because as sure as eggs is eggs United is a far bigger club than Spurs.....therefore, we WILL be back.

Lets agree to disagree on this. As said I've seen the script (including excuses) at Juventus

Lol ... your delusions know no bounds. Levy won't sell and Kane doesn't want to leave ... especially not to a club playing Thursday night football.

United will always get who they want. Haven't you realised this yet? Biggest club and most cash. Just ask Zlatan and Pogba.

When you win the CL a few times and 20 titles get back to me. Until then see you in Europa in a few weeks time :smirk:

Wrong script IMO, but you better hope Jose gets the boot as I don't think you'll get your wish under him.

I don't want anyone to get the boot. All I want is to have a fully functional team with a solid defense, a balanced CM, wingers who ooze talent and create chances and strikers scoring goals. I doubt that will happen if we keep playing wingers and wingbacks as fullbacks, CMs and LBs as CBs, no 10s as DMs and as wingers and strikers on the flanks. Some people in here wanted to crucify Martial and Rashford for not dropping deep enough and double mark Arsenal's wingers. I didn't. That's exactly what happens when you play strikers on the flanks

Goalscorers are an asset but aren't vital in a team that ooze creativity and has a solid defend. Andy Cole was not WC but we won so many honours with him. Juventus won the CL with Ravanelli upfront. France won the WC with Guivarc'h and Italy won it with Luca Toni. None of them have the talent that Martial has

I can think of plenty of wingers that would get done like Rashford did, blaming anyone for getting rinsed is pointless. We played everyone bar Mata in their "proper" position on Sunday, and as I said Mata has shown that this whole out of position stuff is bullshit excuse making, he does his work when played on the right and it doesn't stop him doing his job in the attack.
My point with Jose getting the boot is that you'll need it to happen as he doesn't see Martial like you do.

Not really, most wingers are used to drop deeper and double mark, Giggs, Kanchelskis and Beckham would. Same thing about Ronaldo let alone JSP. Also I am not impressed with Mata on the flanks either. He's too slow for the flanks

It's something you can easily learn, it's not rocket science, Robben learned it under Heynckes for instance and there was no lazier winger than him when it came to defensive duties. As for Mata, he isn't my ideal fit for the wider role either but I was talking about his workrate in helping his fullback, he does his job in that regard, no reason Martial can't learn to.

Robben was always a winger. Very few players can switch to new positions and still be top quality. Its a hell of a thing to ask and there were better players then Martial who failed miserably (do you remember Carrick and Keane as CBs?). In my opinion we need to stop patching the squad up. Lets play wingers as wingers, CBs as Cbs and strikers as strikers. That what most of our best teams did. Why reinventing the wheel now?

He's neither IMO, he's a wide forward, an important position in the modern game, most top teams have that wide goal threat, he's ours.

Just because he made it work last season doesn't mean it is his favourable position. Last season he had lots of freedom in his game and that's why he excelled but now our game is subordinated to accommodate Zlatan which means Martial gotta mimic a winger with crossing and passing inside to find Zlatan.

Think it was against Netherlands when him and Pogba has some great link up though the middle on couple of occasions.

Exactly. Why we always gotta be reinventing stuff is beyond me. Forcing players to play outside of their positions and than buying players for the sake of buying.

Let Martial and Rashford grow this year alongside Zlatan and Rooney, than next season when Zlatan is gone, put those 2 upfront and have Rooney be their backup option.

Get a pair of genuine wingers and we re all set. Why pay a ton for Icardi, Silva, Belotti and others just to hope they will fit in nicely.

We have 2 young, perspective and very clinical strikers who are EPL proven and all people want is to play them outside of their positions just so we can buy someone else and hope for the best

But it's not just about Martial learning his defensive duties on the wing, is it? We need pace upfront, a second forward who can make runs off Ibra/Rooney. Otherwise we look static and over-dependent on crosses.

The way I see it, it's in Martial's as well as the team's interests that he plays more as a forward and less as a winger with defensive duties. However, if Mourinho sees Pogba as the man running off Ibra, we might as well play Young or Lingard on the left wing.

Martial is a wide player though, so we aren't changing anything, he played there lots of times for Monaco and excelled there for us last season, to get someone in that could bring what he does on the left we'd need to get a Carrasco, and his new buyout is crazy, it would be cheaper to get Andre Silva and let Maretial continue to develop in a role he's already played superbly well, lets not forget he's 20, Robben was a luxury player until Heycknes got hold of him and he learned the defensive aspect of his role, Martial is young enough to develop it easily.

In both instances I think Martial's lack of form due to off the field issues and the fact he's 20 and young players have these dips, is clouding things. Ibra is always looking to drop off and find the runs of the wide players, Lingard does this well but his finishing is poor, we can see Martial linking with Ibra in the earlier games but he's been in and out recently when our form has picked up in regards to creating chances. Martial isn't being asked to operate as a winger in the attack anymore than Mata is, only when we are without the ball is he expected to to defend like a winger, he will learn the balance better as he gets more experienced.

Whatever we do, I utterly hope we don't sign Kane.
1. He'd be very Expensive (as in very)
2. He's so static.. Might as well just throw Zlatan in the box instead of letting him drop deep.
3. His wages would be out of this world.
4. He's really funny looking. There's something very asymmetric about his face.

He really isn't. He himself said he's more comfortable upfront. He reminds me alot of a young Thierry Henry TBH. He can do the job on the flanks but he's not comfortable there and probably he'll never be

Good thing he isn't the coach then.
Do as your boss tells you, and become a better player by learning and sacrificing.
Or whine about losing a shirt number and not playing 10 meters more to the center than you do now.
The best players adapt and learn from these positions. He did a splendid job on left wing last season, and now he wants to play striker.
If it had worked in practice, I reckon he would be playing there now

or else leave the club and become a legend somewhere else as Thierry Henry did. A striker on the flanks will always play as a striker on the flanks that is why SAF played Cantona, RVN and Cole upfront rather then as wingers

His best games have come when playing as a LWF, his reasoning for wanting play as a striker was one of pure laziness, he said he liked not having to track back as much, he'll fail with that attitude no matter the position. You're also ignoring that his game lacks the attributes Jose likes in a #9.

I'm pretty sure that SAF did exactly what he felt was the right thing to do for the team. Not because some player just had a feeling he wanted to change position.
If we did that, then Jones would be taking corners all season.

Maybe Mou needs to adapt his system and work on the hand dealt to him. Else we risk suffering from another 'philosophy' obsessed person who'll only damage the squad.

Yeah - that's called inside forwards. They're pretty popular these days, and can even be more goal scoring than the strikers (Ronaldo/Benzema e.g.)

LVG bought Martial to be our CF, it was only after Depay played like cr** on LW and Rashford's explosion that he was moved to LW position.

What about Muller? I know he hasn't had the best year of his career but maybe he would fancy a new challenge.

He's an incredible striker in my opinion and I definitely think he'll be back on form quick enough.

I mostly have to agree with Devil may care. He played the lot at LW/LIF, his best games at Monaco definitely at this position. He had a marque game against Arsenal:

Most of his good games looked like this.

There is no question what so ever that his best games have been at this position so far, both at us, and at Monaco.
But he definitely has the potential to be a world class striker. The main thing lacking is hunger for goals, and positional play - how often have we seen low crosses drilled in, and Martial relaxed at the edge of the box, while true strikers would have thrown themselves in front of the goal.... i hope he can get that anyhow, then he could really become the next Henry..with his current skillset, i think Rashford is a better striker.

Last time i checked CL group standings spurs were on a steady course for Thursday night football come February.

Even if that happens, if we're talking about supposed reasons for Kane to go to United (and we are) then swapping one EL club for another would hardly be compelling. If Kane ever wants to leave he'd have bigger fish to fry than United in the EL.

He is, you just want Martial to play a different role, it's not like we are playing him as a fullback or CB, he's an inside forward, and Jose is never going to play the fluid front 3 like Barca/Dortmund/Liverpool.
