Strikers we could buy?

I think today highlighted the need for a ruthless striker, Rash is great and a fantastic prospect but I really don't see him as a 20+ goal a season striker, not yet anyway. His movement isn't good enough yet either and he lacks that lethal element an RvP/RvN had.

Itd also be nice to have a bit of aggression up there too, someone to ruffle a few feathers which is what I was looking forward to seeing from Zlatan but it's not happened.

Don't know who that person is, I haven't watched enough of Icardi to know whether he'd fit and based on what I've read, he sounds more trouble than it's worth but one things for sure, without a top striker we're never getting close to the championship.

Harry Kane is no better than Lukaku. Both post good numbers, but both are rubbish, or at best, average at playing football in general.

Icardi I would take. I've heard we may be looking at Angel Correa too, who I would take in a heartbeat.

Lol ... you don't win the Golden Boot - nor score 69 goals (and counting) for Spurs - by being rubbish, .

Bit out there but Michail Antonio would be a great option to have in the squad, unbelievable in the air which is important with the direct play to the front Mourinho encourages.

I would take Icardi in a heartbeat. I hope we go in for him.

Really think Martial could be our next top striker, he just needs to push on, and drop all this can't be arsed demeanour, certainly think he has the ability.

Just hope we don't mess about trying to get Neymar, or Muller again, rather see us display a bit more finesse if we do buy a striker next summer.

Didn't Icardi just sign a new contract like 2 months ago with an absurd release clause? See a lot of you mentioning him. Dybala as well keeps being mentioned but he seems like an "unmovable" for Juve.

Lukaku would cost something like £60m or more because he's literally everything for Everton. No way could they replace his output so they'd demand a ransom. No way is he worth even £40-50m. I bet if you guys both him you'd be complaining every couple of weeks about how poor he looks. Unplayable on his day, invisible a lot of the time too.

I know he fell out with the ultras, or some drama like that which at one point recently made it look like he'd definitely be leaving, I haven't kept my eye on the situation though so it might have all blown over.

Spurs never played thursday night football then? hmmmm

Griezmann for me,, Kane as a back up.
Pretty much the opposite of a Mourinho striker is Griezmann. He's someone you buy when you play with 2 strikers don't you think? Mou has always wanted pure #9's like Drogba and Costa and clearly hasn't changed his mind after just buying Ibra.

I guarantee you that AG is a target.
All I'm saying is that he'd be a very out of character signing for José. He's always used (and had tremendous success with) marauding, powerful #9's who can hold the ball up, link play, constantly run the channels, and is a threat on set pieces. The opposite of Griezmann in other words. Why would he suddenly change his preference now?

We need a striker who's happy to be the guy that comes on late and makes an impact. Chicha and Tevez and obviously Ole come to mind. If we can pick a striker up on the cheap in jan who's happy to have a small role then I say we go for it.

Jose likes a physical #9 that can hold the ball up and bring others into play, that is why he brought in Ibra and will surely be what he looks for in the next #9. When you play with a lone striker you need one of the wide players to be a goal scorer as well, that is why I see Martial remaining on the LW to be a Hazard/Reus/Bale for Jose.

Griezmann is a fantastic player but he's a SS, the only role I could see him in within our current system is the one Mata is currently playing, which is a free role when we are attacking, that wouldn't alter our need for a #9 though.

This is the role Rashford should be in for the time being.

@Devil may care

I agree. Right now he looks like he could do with a rest so if we give him the last 20m for the next few weeks and let him go all guns blazing in that last 20 we could get something from games we are chasing.

It has to be Aubameyang. He is and has everything that we need in a #9 right now. Pace, height, finishing, movement, energy & hold-up play. And what's more, next summer he'll be 28, he's in his peak.

I'd agree with this, but it's just never going to happen. If he leaves Dortmund he'll be able to sign for whatever club he chooses (Barca aside). Will just be way too much competition. I'd also question how popular we are with Dortmund at the moment.

Shouldn't we go for someone whom we got a realistic chance of signing? Which pretty much exclude the likes of Kane I guess.

Now here's my line of thought.

Lukaku - he's not worth 60m because that's exactly what Everton would ask for him. I wonder how many times the Manchester clubs needs their finger burnt before they acknowledge that Everton players are OVERRATED
Aubameyang - Pace is the first thing to go. Also Dortmund is becoming for us Germany's version of Everton
Dybala - he's a great striker but Juventus will take us to the cleaners again
Icardi - he's a bit of a cnut and if Beckham and Vicky pissed you off then you won't digest Icardi's and Wanda's circus. There again, he's gettable and he's a good scorer (although he offers little more then goals)

I'd say we should spend the money on top quality wingers and move Martial and Rashford in their natural role. If needs be give Ibra another year top up or sign someone like Vardy if he's offered at a decent price. Other players who might come handy is the Sassuolo kid, Domenico Berardi (he's the Italian version of Griezmann and waaaay cheaper) and Alvaro Morata

You all thought the same about Pogba, he ended up here. We're probably the only club in the PL that will go for him, then Real Madrid. Bayern have Lewa. If we're interested in him & we should, we have a very good chance of signing him.

Yes, why not Vardy for at least the next couple of years? He is the kind of striker Mourinho would love to have.

I doubt it, he has none of the qualities that Jose likes in a #9 and his buble has burst this season.

He's a hardworking striker who can drop deep, he's good in air and he's got an eye to goal. We can't and we shouldn't spend some 60m on the forward line especially when our issues are on the flanks and not upfront

Lol ... your delusions know no bounds. Levy won't sell and Kane doesn't want to leave ... especially not to a club playing Thursday night football.

Last time i checked CL group standings spurs were on a steady course for Thursday night football come February.

Griezmann would be the only one to be an upgrade in our current attack.
The names flying around like Icardi, Lukaku or Aubameyang wouldn't really add anything to the attack of Ibrahimovic and Rashford.
For the time after Ibra, we have to pick another striker - i'd go for Kane as "true N°9". There are just no Ronaldo's (fat one) or Van Nistelrooy's around anymore, apart from Suarez. Different times i guess.

Really, are there ANY top strikers for sale now that won't cost a fortune? Because i can't think of any

No, also none that cost a fortune.

Good luck with that career in football scouting.

He's not particularly good in the air, he runs aorund a lot but his bubble has burst and his hold-up play is non existent, plus you make it sound like Leicester are giving him away, he just signed a new deal and will cost at least £30M, his age wont matter to them. We have one striker that fits what Jose likes and he'll be 36 next season, you need to let go of Martial as a striker mate, it's not happening, and Rashford needs a lot of developing.

Unless we bring in proper wingers then expect Rashford's mistake against Arsenal to be a common occurrence. Strikers are Strikers. Their instinct isn't to create chances or to drop deep and help the defense but to cut inside and score goals.

I repeat. Our best strategy is to bring in two top quality wingers and move Rashford/Martial back upfront. If needs be, we should bring in a Sheringham/Larsson/Ibra type of striker (ie an experienced striker who will play in tough games) but that is all.

You can repeat it but it doesn't make it so, Martial needs to learn to put the fecking work in, if Mata can learn how to do it then a young, powerful athlete like Martial can learn how to do it. We have no problem creating chances with Pogba, Mata and Herrera, we have a problem scoring them, Martial needs to study the likes of Reus and Hazard and learn his role. We need a #9 that can do what Ibra/Drogba/Benzema does, that is a Jose #9, my guess is we'll go for Andre Silva, his game is very similar to Benzema and Diego Costa.
