If Liverpool do make it to the final, the question is will Rodgers risk losing the cup for the romance of starting Gerrard. A pragmatic manager probably would not.

After there last performance against Arsenal are you sure they wouldn't be better off starting him ? Still there best passer of a ball in midfield by a huge mark.

Perhaps, but at least 2 of their goals conceded were due to not being able to handle Arsenal's pressing. That's been one of his biggest problems as he's aged. The passing is good when he's got time on the ball.

Gerrard would have to hit rock bottom before Joe Allen is preferred over him, especially in a big game with him being a big game player.

That was a poor performance all round and I am not sure he would have made a massive difference. Also think that Rodgers got his tactics wrong too.

Is he still a 'big game player'? Considering their last few 'big games' he has either directly caused them to lose or made no difference to the result.

Could argue that the match with us was a bigger game than a cup final since it was so critical to the top 4 race. He didn't start that and managed to feck up in epic proportions when he did come on. Joe Allen won't ever be as good as Gerrard was but he probably gives the team a better chance of performing at their best right now (did I really just write that? :wenger:).

Rodgers pretty obviously sees it that way and I'd be surprised if he relies on Gerrard much the rest of the season.

His stamp seems to have been quickly forgotten by the media. It's very strange because that kind of conduct can easily end up causing serious injury on the opposition player. It's really weird how everyone came out to his defence after the stamp but it was no surprise seeing Jamie Carjacker come to his defence on Sky though considering his disgusting tackle on Nani and all the stuff in his book about getting his mates to beat up Lucas Neil. Sounds like a complete thug.

Liverpool "pundits" on TV or radio aren't neutral like Gary Neville.....best example was Fowler yesterday

Robbie Fowler: Raheem Sterling "crazy" to leave Liverpool

Raheem Sterling would be "crazy" to leave Liverpool, former striker Robbie Fowler has told the Daily Mirror.

Sterling's future at Liverpool has been the subject of speculation with the player having so far yet to agree a new contract with the club.

The England international's current terms do not expire until 2017 but the Reds are keen to tie him down on an extended agreement.

However, Sterling has turned down their offer of £100,000 a week, leading to speculation the forward could leave the Reds.

However, Fowler, who scored 183 goals for Liverpool, said: "I think it's nonsense to suggest Sterling will have to go elsewhere to win trophies and fulfil all these dreams he's apparently got.

"In the space of two seasons, with a very, very young team that will only get better, they should have won the league, should have beaten Chelsea in a semi to get to Wembley... and should play in an FA Cup Final there in May.

"Okay, that's quite a few shoulds, but I'm convinced under Brendan Rodgers they will become a reality as he develops the brilliant young players at the club and strengthens his squad where he needs to.

"Look, it's obvious I believe Raheem is at the right place.

"I was brought up at Anfield and still work there, so what else am I going to think? But he'd be crazy to go at this stage in his development, especially because he's being guided by a special manager who has already turned Luis Suarez into one of the best players in the world... and earned Luis the money to go with that status.

"Surely they can see that Brendan has already got so much out of him, and can develop even more?"

Liverpool's average squad age: 25.7, United's 25.4

Ours is the 2nd youngest in the league, Liverpools the 4th.

Absolutely love that his season is ending in a whimper. Sent off in his last game against United and looked way off the pace today. For a second I thought that glancing header was going to save Liverpool but good old Kieran Richardson denied him. Lovely stuff.

You know he's he become a total liability when even Liverpool fans are starting to think he might be past it. Legs have completely gone.

He's aged disgracefully, like, within a season. I mean, I know his goals were all pens last season, but he was still pretty good. This season - my god. That match summed him up.

AWOL today. I said yesterday he shouldn't start, and look... Anonymous - Our worst player on the pitch. Letting your heart rule the mind is just ridiculous.

If only one of them was in charge of his feet.

Very poor performance, don't think I heard his name mentioned till his 66th min free kick

Nononooooooo...this is like finding the christmas presents before christmas day...! I was looking forward to having a cup-final meltdown with them singing Happy Birthday before kick-off and chanting YAWN and it being the PERFECT day for everything to fall into scouse-place...but then it all goes really, really wrong! feck!

feck that, all we'd have heard in the run up would have been how it's his day, this result is perfect.

He aged about a year in the time it took to fall over.
Well that's the media perception.
I'd be interested to hear from somebody who actually watched him constantly as to how quickly he declined. I remember thinking a large amount of the praise he got last year was based on team success rather than him. I don't think he's actually declined as much as made out. He simply never should have been a holding midfielder in the first place, and the current trend is that his legs have gone.
Conversely, Whilst he has been poor I've seen performances which previously would have got him 6.5 out of 10 being criticised as 3 out of 10.

Yeah I agree, wouldn't want to rely on Arsenal get a result against them too- the montages this summer would have been endless if he'd won it. Instead, the end of his Liverpool career will be remembered for that slip and then being sent off in less than a minute against us.

It's like last season, no one really remembers who won the league because it wasn't Liverpool; if they'd won it then it would still be getting shouted about every day.

Good bye and good riddance you utter utter bellend, the league will be a less scummy place without you

Something about Stevie that just makes me smile when he fails. Think it's all those kisses of the camera and his raising of the 5 fingers. It's beautiful to see him miss out on achievements.

Problem is that he's no longer the center of the team, so he needs to put in more of an effort to get involved.. He's no longer the initiator of attacks with his passing and he doesnt have the legs to get forward and back for 90 minutes either.. Should've come off the bench, they should've played Manquillo at WB and moved Markovic up or played Balotelli/Borini from the start instead of him.
