In the daily Mirror yesterday they gave Gerrard 4/10 how can you give someone who got sent off after 40 seconds 4/10. Same as Lallana and Moreno
Well....
1 for being Stevie Me
1 for putting on the armband
1 for not being able to claim benefits for the day
1 for making it on to the pitch

Close enough.

Apparently he went to the dressing room afterwards and delivered a passionate pep talk.

Halfway through, he realised that everyone else was out on the pitch.

Gerrard didn’t hide or duck out, he apologised for his actions and should be commended.

An in-depth feature in the Daily Telegraph has revealed just what Steven Gerrard did following his red card against Manchester United on Sunday and how he ended up apologising for the incident at full-time on Sky.

After making the hot-headed challenge on Herrera and seeing red, Gerrard first asked Liverpool officials just how many games he was set to miss once he had left the field of play.

This will be three and see him at a minimum play just five more games for the Reds, he will not be available for selection against Arsenal (A), Blackburn (A) and Newcastle (H).

The skipper then asked to be left alone in the dressing-room to gather his thoughts, away from Adam Lallana who had replaced before his 38-second appearance who was receiving treatment for an injury.

Gerrard went on to shower, put on his match-day suit and wait until the full-time whistle for the players and the boss to return to the changing room.

As the squad returned for a post-defeat debrief, Gerrard stood in the middle of the dressing room and firstly apologised to the manager and then to his teammates who his actions had so badly hamstrung and potentially caused a devastating blow to their Champions League hopes.

The article then goes on to make the point that following this Gerrard specifically asked the club what he could do for them, how he could rectify the situation, how he could make amends.

The captain went on to ask for one interview, one chance to apologise to the entire Liverpool fan base and front-up to his mistakes. Which he did and should be commended for with Geoff Shreeves on Sky Sports.

Perhaps it’s apt to finish with an anecdote from the piece to show that whilst his actions might have been over the edge, United are a special case with Gerrard.

This isn’t the everyday Gerrard this game stirs something up in him that is hard to contain and on Sunday unfortunately that spilled out in the way it did.

When he was a schoolboy, he wore a no. 7 Bryan Robson Manchester United top during a street kick about but was almost immediately told to remove it by his father, lest what the neighbours might think.

Whilst it’s hard to apportion blame to anyone other than Gerrard it was instinctive rather than malicious and he has since apologised.

One act should not tarnish a legacy.

So essentially, he still desperately needed to be the centre of attention, and didnt even consider apologising to Herrera...the guy who he stamped on and whom he could have seriously injured. Sounds about right.

Imagine if Rooney had done it. Media reaction.. All hell would brake loose.

But its Gerrard so they're trying to find every excuse possible instead of just saying he was stupid and reckless.

He didn't apologise to Herrera though (unless I've missed it).

He's thinking about his public relations with regards to the move to LA next season, as well as his testimonial (if he's having one).

He's a prick.

I think he's had a testimonial.

From the Tele article

As Gerrard made that walk of shame towards the tunnel, gleeful United supporters sent him on his way with the usual terrace hat-trick of “cheerio” chants, V signs and hand gestures mimicking the shaking of a dice.

Couldnt stop chuckling for ages at that.

We're always reading about players apologising to teammates, managers, fans etc after an incident like this or similar; why on earth is Gerrard's apology in particular made out to be some uniquely selfless act of nobility? It's par for the bloody course...

The armband.

Yep, would have been front page for a week, questioning if he should be suspended for life.

On the Football Ramble they were talking about how much credit the Scousers were getting for holding back Balotelli, but Jim pointed out the United away support should get more for winding up Stevie Me so much that he lost his head.

Did Smalling actually did something to Balotelli in that situation? Just Mario being Mario I'd guess.

When Balotelli ended up being held back by the crowd? No. They were both going for the ball, Balotelli went down, proceeded to try and throw Smalling to the ground, then got pissed off when Smalling was pissed off.

The Slippy G wankfest will last for months if he lifts the trophy. Come on Le Arse, spoil the party!

Wait so he wore a United shirt and an Everton shirt? He really didn't wanna be a liverpool fan as a kid.
