Steven Gerrard

Personally dont think he should be a starter over England, but it wont be too bad as long as Lampard is not next to him (who IMO should not be going unless we are thinking of doing a 119 minute sub to bring him on to take a pen)

I think both Lampard and Gerrard need to retire from England for England to truly progress. Remove most if not all memory of past fear and failure.

He's going to feck up, it's absolutely inevitable. If not in a comedy way, he's going to try and show everyone what Stevie G is all about and it's going to cost England.
I don't think he's going to 'feck up' in a massive and visible way tbh. I think he's going to take good set pieces and might get a goal or two, but using him in the middle of the park is definitely going to cost us in a not so visible way. Tactically he's not great, he doesn't provide much defensive coverage and he doesn't help retain the ball. That's what's going to 'cost' England this summer, the defence looks okay and the attack looks bright, but midfield is dire. And Gerrard being an essential component of it is one of the major reasons.

Guess he's alluding to this story.

Though, as usual, it's sensationalist bullshit headlines and it was most likely said as a joke.
Well, don't think so he said that as a joke. Doesn't seem that way as well. Yes, it's a sensationalist headlines, but it's still funny to see he wants his club teammate to miss out, and then return in the match against Italy.

So everyone on here wants Gerrard to fail for England? Pretty pathetic if you follow England and root for a rival club player to fail.

England are going to be utter shit, so we may as well enjoy ourselves and not much is going to be more enjoyable at this wc than watching that despicable hypocritical ego maniacal self glory obsessed gobshite embarrassing himself on the big stage. Again. The twat.

Italy having to play their third choice keeper means Stevie will be looking for a screamer tonight.

I'm sure you're hoping for Welbeck to bag a hat trick right?

I was 3 the last time England won. I could care less who scores as long as they do well. Club before country yes, but to root against a player on England because they're a manc or scouse is petty.

Since i'm not in the England-brigade, then i'm allowed to hope for a slippery slip from Stevie?

He's a shit central midfielder. Has he even touched the ball?

He's got another feck up in him tonight. He's twice, on the edge of the box, done that same control that cost him against Chelsea, where he tries to put his foot on the ball and drag it at the same time instead of using his instep.

As a foreigner i don't get how people can slate Rooney when there is someone so pedestrian as Gerrard plays 111 caps and is tournament after tournament a weak spot.

Utterly shit tonight. Someone needs to punch him repeatedly in the face until he repeats "I am not as good as I think and I cannt do it all myself" the prick

He's not a deep-lying playmaker no matter how many Liverpool fans think he is. The difference in class between him and Pirlo is unreal.
Totally, pirlo and Gerrard are on totally different levels for that role. Gerrard was dire, he either hit it back or Hollywood and I'm sure next to none of those hollywoods came off. And considering he patrols the front four, Italy consistently strolled past him. How he is beyond critique is beyond me.

You knew when he took that ball off Rooney for the free kick it was doomed, esp after the commentators trying to equate Stevie me blowing out of his arse with a steel eyed look of determination!

What if we're not English and don't care what England do, and think Stevie G is a massive bell end who we wish would disappear up his own hole and take all the overblown hype and vomit inducing English press/media blowjobbery with him?

Just, what if, you know?

Horrendous performance, that. Hollywood galore, at least when he actually had possession, which was rare. Henderson was substituted on the basis of stature, and was unlucky to come off.

Credit where its due, world class slip over the refs legs tonight.

The commentator said the ref tripped him  tripped over his own feet.

He's amazingly overrated and how he manages to avoid any sort of criticism is a skill in itself.

Not according to talksport he is better than Pirlo ha ha oh and Hart is better than Buffon.

not saying Rooney would have scored for sure...but he was obvious choice from that angle. He has done well from there.

Yup. To be fair, Gerrard does too but Rooney had gone with "this is my chance" feeling with the ball at first when Gerrard appeared on scene to spoil it.

Had a stunning starfish dive to cap off a standard performance.

My mate is a scouse supporter...Said he had tears in his eyes during the "we don't let this slip" huddle against City

He had basically no words for that tonight. . Dreadful!
