Surely im not the only one who finds him slightly overrated

I think he could do with a rest. Obviously his confidence is in the toilet given he hasn't scored for 4 months.

In general i think he probably is slightly, but there's no doubt he might well become a top player. He's shown it at times.

That's actually the second offer he's rejected from Liverpool. For the first round of negotiations they offered him three hubcaps off a Vauxhall Nova and a Panasonic Super Drive VHS player with a free copy of Die Hard 2 inside it.
 That would be the clincher for me!

Ox is just coming through at PL level and is better in an attacking midfield role in a 433. Sterling is ahead of him right now (though his form as been poor this season).

Nah, sorry, can't agree with you there. Chamberlain has been better for both club and country, both in the wide and central AM positions.

He's a very good player who has shown some good form...surrounded by utter toss!

I like the way he plays football. I think he has the capacity to be a very very good player at the highest level.

He's not overrated he's just playing in a terrible team with terrible players the thing is He is put under so much pressure and he's under the spotlight too much, everything Liverpool do the ball is forced out to sterling to see if he can make something happen. That's why he was better last year because Suarez and Sturridge took most of the pressure off him.

If he was in our team he would be a way better player because the spotlight would be spread around other players in our team (Rooney, Di Maria, RVP etc).

I'm still pretty sure theres no chance of us signing him but if we did we could definitely take him up another level, he won't hit his potential at Liverpool.

no way that Bayern is buying Sterling.

With Sammer and Pep at the club? We have him on our radar for sure.
He just turned 20, is already a known name and a big talent. Would be excited. Contract till 2017. Thats just 2 years next summer.
And we just got around 30 million more to invest every year due to the paid Allianz arena alone.
We will see.

If the money is right for the potential he's showing I don't see why we shouldn't bid, even if our chances of getting him are low.

Even though he was having a meh game, he was a handful.. Continho is a player who is overrated, not sterling.

Sterling has been pretty impressive this past year or so, at least when I watched him. Fast, agile, great ballcontrol in tight spaces. His composure in front of goal is lacking and overall he needs to be more tactically aware I feel, but at 20 a very exciting player.

Maybe we'll go for him if Reus really doesn't come and mold him into Ribery's replacement in the next year(s). Altough I wouldn't go for him for more than 40 million euros or so.

The problem with English players is, that they are incredible expansive and most of them prefer to play in the EPL. If Sterling is available at least one or two English giants will offer absurd money in wages and as transfer fee. Think about the fee for Shaw and his wage. Sterling will be much more expansive. So as long as Pep doesn’t specifically want Sterling, Bayern won’t try to sign him. I actually doubt, that we can attract him over City/United/Chelsea anyway. If he really leaves England, he´ll end up in Spain.

Sterling has two years left on his deal, you could get him for €40m IMO. He won't move to United and I don't think City or Chelsea will go for him.

Some Brazilians are, too.

If he does leave, I think it's 100% certain he will join us.
Wait sterling is a United fan?

That ones new to me. It'd be so funny if he ended up here. OMG rawk would literally explode.

Let's be honest though there's about as much chance of sterling Joining us as there is Valencia actually beating his man and putting in a perfect cross.

So you're saying there's a chance?

Of course he is overrated. He plays for Liverpool AND hes English. Its a good job hes not injured too or Pele would be getting nervous.

Hes a very good player, or at least has the potential to be, but hes not even close to the future Messi or Ronaldo or even Rooney some think he is. Liverpool are heaping the weight of the world on his shoulders and it looks like its getting to him.

Not getting some of the hate for him here. He's a very good player for his age and has the potential to be even better.

Personally I'd take him in a heart beat. Offers us what Mata doesn't; pace, tempo and direct threat. Also, being with players like ADM, Falcao and RVP would take a heap of pressure off his back.

Wishful thinking on my part.

Add to that list - 'being coached by LvG' - something that lots of people never seem to factor in when talking about potential signings. Sterling coached by LvG for a season would be a FAR better player than we've seen thus far.

Rodgers (recent questions about overplaying him aside) deserves a lot of credit in the development of Sterling. I'm not sure van Gaal would do any better.

Apart from the times he's undeserving of credit he deserves credit.

Not really, you can criticise him for overplaying Sterling but that's nothing to do with his coaching. It's hard to see how any one else would be a big improvement for Sterling.

Rodgers has done well for Sterling thus far, though I do believe the player needs some sort of upgrade (be it the standard of team or management) to further his development. I'd absolutely love him here, I can't think of many players out there I'd actually prefer signing.

Rodgers has taken Sterling as far as he can and is now overloading him and stunting his progress.

A world class manager - be it Van Gaal, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Simeone - is what Sterling needs now if he wants to completely fulfil his potential, which I'm sure he does.

Yeah, I've been impressed with Januzaj's marked improvement since van Gaal took over.

Athletico be a great shout actually but doubt they'd have the asking price.

What he needs more than a great or experienced manager is to be in a team where he can play every week. He's got that at Liverpool (look at Adnan) if he was at say United and playing every week of course it would benefit him more as he'd learn of better players. As United have much better class of players than Liverpool right now.

And the same can be said of the development in most the players (most them under 25) Rodgers has signed. Works both ways Bob ;)

Indeed. I wasn't trying to say Rodgers is better than van Gaal, just that it's nonsense to say Sterling would turn out better under him when one of the best things about Rodgers' spell so far has been how he's developed Sterling.

He has done well to take Sterling as far as he can, I agree with that, but he isn't a manager with enough ability to take Sterling to the next level in his career.

I think working under a dramatically superior coach would make all the difference. Just my opinion.
