Sterling rejects new deal | Telegraph

Just this page alone this is what I have learnt so far from our superior Utd brains:

1. Rodgers will finish him midtable (the only full season in Raheem's career has seen him almost winning the league. Ended 2nd)
2. Liverpool are not a club to nurture young talent
3. LvG is a far superior manager of young talent ergo Januzaj must be obviously shit (which one is it Utd fans?)
4. LvG is as good as Mourinho...now that....that is gold.

You have produce nothing in recent years. Sterling was bought from QPR.

LVG won a CL with 7 homegrown players. 6 starters plus Kluivert came on and scored the winner. Who has a better record that LVG that's around now bringing through youth? Also he is still the closest of any manager to winning two CL in a row since the format changed-only beaten on pens in 96.

Also LVG didnt going around crying and flapping when he lost his best player Bergkamp in 93.

His team actually got better. So maybe you should worry about Rodgers being carrier by Suarez. Says a lot that he falls apart because of one player.

Yeah I guess so. Lots of Sterling kits would be burned.
I think he would end up going back to London personally but it would be almost a Figo type of disloyalty

Game, set and match

Interesting indeed. I'm popping over the Utd thread to do some Van Gaal searches 18 months ago before The Chosen One was well chosen. Just to see what posters were saying then, or indeed if LvG was even being mentioned with such grandeur and praise.

Edit: found bits and bobs but LvG (or Van Gaal as everyone was calling him before he became your darling) was mentioned behind the likes of Klopp. Certainly none of the sounds we're hearing now that he's wearing the red of Manchester. Funny how perceptions can be inflated after such events.

He was out of club team management. What do you expect? Anyone that doesnt recognize how good he is, even back then, is a bit daft. But yeah, when you're out of club management, its hard to gain much mindshare.

 londred, be a good boy and pick up your little brother's toys.

It's idiotic to argue LVG cant bring through and manage players. It would be like saying Jose can't get teams to defend properly. LVG record with youth is magnificent. Everywhere he has been he has done a brilliant job with young players. To argue otherwise is just insane.

You should pick on something else if you want to get jabs in at LVG.

I have no idea if you're fighting with me, with yourself or with the whole world. If its with me I have no idea what you're talking about. I never said anything about LvG not being able to manage youth (the evidence is out there, I have watched football). The most I mentioned was "either LvG can't manager Januzaj or Januzaj must be shit" as a throwaway statement to highlight the hypocrisy in criticising Brendan's handling of Sterling earlier.

Anyway, I think the moment has passed.

It has passed because you took a hammering.

I would have said the same about RVP and Mata, you just never know what will happen in football.
You could argue that a Liverpool to United move is not really comparable to those examples.

It has to do with you claiming "LvG is a far superior manager of young talent " laughable, and that's copied from your post, it's laughable that LVG is a far superior manager of young talent, when speaking about Brendan Rodgers. I don't hate or think BRod is as bad as most claim, but to not support the statement is incorrect, it's a fact, he has so far exceeded, your only point would be that Rodgers hasn't had as long to show this in his career yet, being younger... but that LVG is superior to Rodgers at bringing talent through, is not a question.

While that's true, in many eyes wind the clock back and ask that question - I doubt anybody would have thought it conceivable. I also highly doubt Sterling will come here anyway, but I sure as hell would take him.

This thread is absolutely retarded.

Dangerous wide players are so hard to find that I bet some big team comes in for him.

I could see him going to Citeh. They really need some pace and width in their attack and Navas has been a bit average there.

The Bayern rumours seem a bit much, but if Shaqiri leaves and Robben comes here or, they'd have space for him on the right wing or backing up Ribery.

Barcelona would make some sense too, if Pedro finally leaves to go be first choice somewhere.

Real Madrid, if they can't/don't get Reus or they do but Bale leaves for a massive fee, or if Jese gets hurt again or they just give up on him like they did with Morata.

Even Chelsea, since Mourinho seems happy with Fabregas playing deep and Salah not looking up to much, could fit him in. Especially if Schurrle gets sick of not starting and is Reus' replacement at Dortmund or something.

Hate to say it, but he is a top class talent. I don't see how he's overrated at all. If he fails to fulfill his potential than that's good for us and bad for Liverpool but there's no denying he's one of the best young players around right now.

Wonder how Gerrard leaving will affect his plans. He'd be more of a focal point for their attack, but I wonder if he'd be willing to endure the project. If Pool want to keep him, they'll need to show some real intent in the market, otherwise why would he stay unless he's offered a ton of money.

Sterling's been their focal point. Hasn't Gerrard been played in defensive positions which doesn't really suit him much?

The RAWK meltdown thread would be soooooo much fun if they both left in the summer

You could argue that Liverpool have played Gerrard out of position just to accommodate him into the side though. That could be construed as making Gerrard an integral part of the side even if the team suffers more with his inclusion.

I think if Sterling went to United that place would physically melt-down. There would have to be an exclusion zone and everything.

Mail and Liverpool Echo both reporting that a new deal should be struck by the end of the month. The Mail are saying it's a five year, £100k per week deal.

He will obviously sign a new deal. And then leave in a few years for a giant fee.

One of the 'newspapers' said he is ready to sign but the scousers want to add a massive release clause (£65m) whereas he wants it to be more like £40m.

Just £100k per week for Sterling? Talk about Slavery in football #BlatterLogic

He should have a CL release clause so that either us, City or Chelsea can buy him when pool finish 6th

He's actually played more minutes than any player in the English top division this season.

Been given 4 hours and 14 minutes rest in 29 matches (28 of which he was involved in at some stage).

A smart 20 year old wants that £40m release clause.

Rodgers is running him into the ground and the kid knows it.

Hopefully not, he was a Manchester United fan, hoping he'll eventually end up here.
Really? where did you find that?

Funny how stuff happens, I read Solskjaer was a boyhood liverpool fan. As was Sheasey

As a United fan, I hope he moves because he's just too good for Liverpool and shouldn't be wasting his talents at that dump.

As an England fan, I hope he moves because Rodgers is burning him down to the ground. He'll be burnt out before he reaches 25, especially considering how much of his game is down to his turn of pace. Without that, he's an above average player. England need a player like him if they want to seriously be challenging for championships and I'm afraid we won't see the best of Sterling in a England shirt.

I'd love him here but just can't see it. Will sign an extension I believe. Hopefully he's smart enough to have a release clause there

He wants a £40million release clause but Liverpool want £65million.
