Sterling rejects new deal | Telegraph

Two sides to it, he should mature there, they've done well to keep him grounded despite some, not amazingly bad, troubles, and kept him going forward footballing wise. But at the same time, he's probably seeing teens or players of similar age getting better deals, so why not push for what he can get given he had a stellar season last year, proven he can already play 50+ it seems(though signs of fatigue do show) and was one of the better performers for England at the World Cup.

Forget age, theres no reason Balotelli should be getting more than him. He should be a top 3 paid Liverpool player, behind Gerrard on loyalty basis and Sturridge, but make exceptions and make it top 5. So I think they'll settle at 80k.

Not sure he'd cope abroad just yet, nor do I think anyone but City would make a bid from England either.

He should join United. Liverpool are struggling and it seems natural. We've a fair few England players and we're missing Pace in the team. People are obviously going to be offended if someone refuses 70k however, the best way to leave a club is to look like your negotiating because if he left, there are plenty who would blame the club (Liverpool).

he wont come here, that just doesnt happen. I dont care where he ends up if it isnt at our club.

H
He shouldn't and it definitely isn't 'natural'. He won't join United if/when he leaves.

How can you be so sure? It's impossible to predict most of the things that happen in football these days. Did anyone imagine 7-8 years back that City would be the club they are now? Plus, Sterling is a United fan. (Not that I think we should go for him)

I definitely think that we should go for him if there is a chance of getting him. He is the biggest English talent since Rooney, is a childhood United fan and doesn't seem to have much of a bond with Liverpool as of this moment. Only way that is gonna happen is if he runs down his contract and I'm sure that Liverpool would much rather sell him to some other team next year if they can't agree an extension.

Liverpool have not sold a player to United since the 1930s. It is hard to predict, but history backs me up as does logic.

Plus, Sterling is a United fan.

Christ, you lot are making a lot of this. He stopped supporting you lot when he was 16 and the lad is from London. You have no idea how big of a supporter he actually was. There are millions of people who say they are a supporter of a certain club, but don't actually pay much attention to the club. Did he not turn you lot down in the first place anyways?

There is no chance Sterling joins United directly from Liverpool.

If he leaves, he is either Chelsea or City bound. No way he is joining us.

Would be the sign of new times indeed if we went and bought Sterling. One thing is what Woody is capable of - I wouldn't put it past him, actually. Another matter is what Liverpool would do. If they're forced to sell him for one reason or another there'll be no shortage of interested buyers.

From their point of view it would be downright embarrassing, I should think.

Madrid is pretty much a graveyard for talent, unless you're exceptional and guaranteed to make it like Ronaldo. Don't see him being a Mourinho signing, he's not going to join us since it probably won't be worth the abuse, especially since we can't yet guarantee success.

He'll stay at Liverpool or go to City.

Liverpool would never sell him to us, especially after Heinze-gate. Our best bet is to tap him up and sign him on a free when his contract is up.

It would be hilarious. But there's no way Sterling will move from Liverpool to United even if he was a United fan.

For starters Liverpool would not sell him to us and he would have various offers where he'd get less stick. No chance.

Wait sterling is a United fan?

That ones new to me. It'd be so funny if he ended up here. OMG rawk would literally explode.

Let's be honest though there's about as much chance of sterling Joining us as there is Valencia actually beating his man and putting in a perfect cross.

You guys are nuts. Liverpool would never sell to us, they'll pay Sterling 100K per week and this matter will close before the end of the season.

I honestly hoped Zaha would turn into the kind of player Sterling is now.

This is turning into a Sterling thread.

Correction: Because it is a Sterling thread!

A Liverpool news reporter was saying last in on Talksport that Sterling is committed to the Dippers.

Yeah. Henry Winter has reported that both parties are hopeful of signing a new deal, the Independent have said he's committed and Rodgers' comments today make it seem like it's just a matter of money.

This nonsense took place before he signed his last contract too.

He's not good enough for Madrid so I don't really think Liverpool have to worry too much about this.

Its important for liverpool to resign him. Give him his 6 digits and move on. Its going to take a hell of a lot of resources to replace him.

Reality is that he can come here if he wants to and Liverpool couldn't really stop him. But we'd not be his first or second choice.

Very impressed by him. Should have scored, but his runs were superb.

He is very good at carrying the ball.

His finishing is fecking shocking though.

What ppl don't know is he had a united top on under his Liverpool top (closed to his heart see) and at the end when he was trying to hide his head in his shirt he was actually trying to kiss the badge. Only an idiot would was to join City and not sure he would want to join Chelsea. We all know he missed on purpose today ;)
