Sterling rejects new deal | Telegraph

No credible source has said he wants a release clause. It's a nonsense.

He'd need to be daft to sign a 5yr contract without one even though players hold all The cards anyways as you lot will make it very tough if its a prem club he wants to move to later.

Because it makes no sense for us to give him that.
What if he insisted that it was in there or he wouldn’t sign? Star players hold all the power these days. I’m not saying it’s true but I wouldn’t be surprised. Hopefully it is in there as it means United could buy him and there’s nothing Liverpool can do about it.

He wouldn't get it. Either a compromise would be made (higher clause or higher wages) but no way he'd get a £40m clause. As Barney said no one reliable is even suggesting he wants that.

No chance he'd be getting a £40m release clause.

The release clause story is coming from givemesport. The Telegraph and Echo don't even mention one.

As I said I wouldn't be surprised if there was one, but in truth I doubt there is.

Surely he can see the writing on the wall regarding the complete lack of potential at LFC. Suarez gone, Gerrard going - Sterling will get out now if he has any sense, or long term ambition.

He thinks he's John Barnes anyway when he isn't in that level. Strikes me as the kind of bloke who wouldn't give a shit leaving to Chelsea or someone if they paid him loads. Typical modern footballer.

4 kids by 4 women at 20. Don't bet on it.

Who wouldn't change employer if the new one was offering them loads more money? For us supporters it's a religion, but at the end of the day, for professional footballers it's a job, just like any other, and for 99.9% of the population - we do it for the money!

If Liverpool doesnt reach the CL this May he will go imo. Wasnt that great so far this season and the hype got a bit crazy in 2014 but he is a big talent.
And already experienced in a top league. Bild said that Pep made contact. If that is true he will see big potential in him and Im sold. Lets see.

Yeah I mean why would any footballer go to a club who can win things and pay you more.. crazy that!

Surely when Pep finds out he has 5 kids with 6 different women, he'll knock this on the head.

No chance he'd be getting a £40m release clause.

Mostly because he's seen how dishonourable you were as a club when a player you actually gave that clause to, wasn't allowed to go when the bid came in!

He shouldn't be in any hurry at all to sign long term at Liverpool. He needs champions league regularly

I heard his girlfriend had twins but only one of them was his.

Well no thats's bollocks. Whether playing for Liverpool or Man City you are earning enough money to be financially secure for life. Sterling after more money is total greed. As I said, typical modern footballer. You can tell he has no loyalty atall to Liverpool - a club that have him his chance and one of the most prestigious clubs in the world to play for.

Well no, that's bollocks. Whether he's financially secure for life has nothing to do with it - and who are you to put some arbitrary limit on how much he's allowed to earn! Also, as a professional footballer, perhaps what he would really like is some silverware to put on his mantlepiece, and he has every right to aspire to having those. Liverpool F.C. seem very unlikely to be able to ever give him that opportunity. If what he would like is to mark his life's work by achieving recognized trophies of achievement such as Premier League Champions medals, FA Cup medals, or Champions League medals then he better move, and move fast. If more money comes with that move then all the better for him. If I were him I would be on the phone to my agent telling him to call LGV now! As for loyalty, If he was failing on the field in the way Liverpool are failing on the trophy front they would sell him whether he liked it or not, and for as much money as they could get!

I highly doubt if your existing employer offered you 100k per week but another employer offered 165k per week to do the same job, you would not take the higher offer.

You would not show loyalty to your existing employer, you would acknowledge your services are at a certain skill where they can demand a certain fee, let's face it Sterling isn't running a charity, you try to command the fee your services are worth.

The difference between playing for Pool and City is not just money. He'l earn more and actually fight for titles.

Even if that wasnt the case, he owes Pool nothing. Loyalty in football is really overrated. Just like its totally understandable he's want to move to City, the Pool fans would would take a Bale over him given the chance.

It isnt just about footballers either as @Empire rightly pointed out. Its the same in other jobs.

They will burn him out relying on him so much and when he gets his first big injury his speed will be gone. He should move to a big club now.

We should try and sign him.

Liverpool are about to enter another prolonged period of UEFA cup imo.
