Television Star Trek

I would have loved a season 5 of enterprise. Rumour has it they were going to be doing the romulan war, which given how they handled season 3 could have been awesome. If only enterprise had stayed the same syndication model as the previous star treks 7 seasons would have been easy. And from what Ive seen of Bakula on the subject hes still pissed about how it ended. So hed be up for it, if he could get away from his ncis show.

Seasons 3 and 4 of Enterprise were some of the best Star Trek writing ever imo....especially the Mano Coto episodes. They should bring some of those writers back

Enterprise's pilot was decent too. A lot of fun but everyone went nuts about the last ever episode ever complaining it was awful.

For me, the best writing was in DS9. The whole dominion war had some great episodes. It’s only a paper moon didn’t stand out when it saw it the first time, but I had an issue with PTSD some years later and when I saw the episode again it really caputered a lot the things I remember feeling but being unable to really articulate. That line of ‘you never think something can happen to you, but then it does. And if that can happen, then anything can happen.’. And just being swallowed up by that thought process unable to get out of it.

Then of course there’s the whole thing about the federation becoming super paranoid about being infiltrated by the dominion. It’s scary just how close the writers got when you look at how the United States reacted to 9/11 a few years later. Just fantastic writing, and fantastic characters.

I haven't seen all the DS9 stuff - definitely something I'm going to check out soon.

I highly recommend it. I think that the rivalry the show had with Babylon 5 helped with getting the very best out of the writers. Its the one show I make a point of marathoning every couple of years. Its just that good. To me anyway. :D.

1. DS9
2. Enterprise
3. TNG/Voyager
4. Discovery
5. TOS

Last couple of seasons of ds9 are excellent. Whats even better is babylon 5...best scifi ever (barring the first two seasons! (just like enterprise))

DS9 is comfortably the best Trek especially from season 4 onwards.

many episodes ? the major story arcs continue for seasons!!

Some do, some don't - the TOS and TNG stuff was largely episodical, whereas 3 & 4 of Enterprise had distinct season long arcs (with various random, unrelated episodes thrown in to take a break).

He was responding to your question. DS9 has some long-ass arcs that go on for seasons!

I adore DS9. It might actually be my favourite show ever, just ahead of The X-Files. The supporting cast and the writing is just unrivalled. I could watch In The Pale Moonlight daily.

Shit, that's how you spell "pagh" in pagh wraith?

TIL.

Enterprise was a great series the last couple of years. It was criminal that it got cancelled when it did.
Fourth season was excellent, no doubt about it. But the rest? 3 was decent but probably seems better than it actually is given that season 2 was so poor.
It would have been interesting to see where they went with it if it hadn't been cancelled. Personally I wasn't that bothered by it finishing other than it meant no new Trek on tv.

The scripts all said "pah wraiths", but in an interview Ronald D Moore said that was a miss spelling and that its actually "pagh wraiths". In the end I think Moore would know better being a writer, but as far as Im aware its still debated in trek forums by really anal trekkies .

Can't see picard doing what sisko did there. But it was required for the greater good...im sure spock could justify it!

Why cant they just make something post voyager
This x1000000.

For some reason Trek has become darker - if you want to use this card play it after the Dominion War ... which is the most likely time that Starfleet would have become more militarised and darker. And now on top of all that we will have to endure the upcoming Star Trek 90210

Sounds like this will be Discovery's final season. Beyond its general rubbishness and plagiarism, it apparently didn't make money the first year and has been plagued by producers getting sacked for abusing the writers, going overbudget in the initial season two episodes, and problems negotiating further global licensing through Netflix.

Hopefully they move on and put their effort into the new Picard series.

I'd be surprised but who knows. Haven't they got like two spin off series planned?

But haven't watched your video yet.

The old school Klingons yes. The new cartoon Klingons not so much.

I though they were ok. A bit mean and scary. Talking about eating human brains was nice.

ps. i haven't seen any of the previous TV shows, only the movies. So i don't really have any preconception of how they should look.

Tbh, I prefer the new ones. More warrior and more diverse as a species than the wrinkle heads.
Exactly!

Aliens shouldn't look like humans with a skin condition.

The point of a cartoon is that you can illustrate anything you want, without needing to worry about the difficulty of filming it.

The fact a live-action, non-human species can look 'unreal' is a good thing.

I agree. I had a lot of issues with Discovery, but the Klingon look was not one of them.

It's a bit of a Flanders affect though isn't it.

There area all sorts of continuity/timeline problems with the new Klingons. They are supposed to exist around the time of the TOS and well before TNG but they look far more advanced than both. I like my Klingons to look, behave, and talk like Worf.
