Television Star Trek

As long as it's not about him taking over the running of the family vineyard back on Earth in some sort of French version of Emmerdale Farm, then this is great news.

In all seriousness, this is fecking great news!

I just hope, against hope, they don't drag this into another overly dark show.

Or worse take it into the SJW direction like Discovery. Much will depend on who they hire as the writers. Sadly it won't be Braga and Co.

I have not seen the new series yet , also not seen much of Enterprise.
Patrick Stewart back is massive news , looking forward to it.

If you haven't seen Enterprise yet - skip season one and start with two (decent) and then watch 3 and 4 (very good). A great springboard into the new Picard series.

I am not really excited for another CBS Star Trek show, even with Stewart. I just imagine him in his wineyard shouting at his brother, and genuinely enjoying later years in life.

But now he'll probably be a side kick for time traveling Michael Burnham.

That's a shame, quite liked him. And now recalling, if was an off-screen death, with Picard just getting news that he has died?

It was yes, they were on a old sailing boat , something to do with Worf being promoted

Was at the start of one of the best Star Trek films First Contact. He receives a message from Earth while on the boat in the holodeck and runs off angry. Troy tries to do her counselor shctick but sucked at it as normal.

Some say it's like this...

Odd - bad
Even - good

I don't particularly agree with that, but even ones definitely appear better than odd ones.

But then again, Nemesis is even one, and that one is worst of them all.

Surely Discovery was the opposite of going in an SJW direction, certainly for Star Trek, which has always being socially conscious? It was rather grim and had very little of the usual moralistic ethos that Star Trek is underpinned by.

Beyond the poor quality of the writing itself in terms of plot, character development, and a general lack of emotional accessibility, the writers and producers have openly admitted a political spin in their approach to Discovery. I honestly don't care what the writers think of Trump or whatever the political issues of the moment are and I certainly don't want the Star Trek franchise to get smeared with any of it. Leave that shit out an focus on the basics of storytelling, character development, and sci-fi of 300-400 years from now.

I can't recall, was Will Wheaton s character still alive at the end of TNG? If so, bring back Will Wheaton for the Picard show for comedic relief :D

He'd be great in a Picard series. (needs a good shave first).

Its great to see that the franchise is finally moving forward. Theres been far too much prequel nonsense with ever increasing tech advancements screwing up the time line. Will be great to see picard again. I wonder if any other captains will make a come back? I know its highly unlikely but would love to see Avery Brooks back as sisko. Get a continuation of DS9 going.

They should consider restarting Enterprise imo. The actors are all still young enough to keep it going.

Always amazes me when people say black or gay characters being on a show equals SJW direction, such an ignorant comment tbh.
Just imagine if internet forums had been a thing at the time when DS9/Voyager came out. A black and female captain! It's PC gone mad!

They were well received at the time because there was no political agenda implicit in any of the shows. They simply had better writers who knew how to do proper Sci-Fi without needing to smear the audience with the political fecal matter of the moment in order to appease the identity politics crowd the writers and producers of today seem to marinate in.

If they were written they way a lot of black and female characters are today, then yeah probably. Janeway was a strong lead, not because she cut the legs out from under the men around her, but because she was just a strong character that had more to say than 'Im a woman and Im in charge'. She was just a captain stuck on the other side of the galaxy trying to get her crew home. Sisko, was a man. A father trying to raise his son on a space station he didnt really want to be on. He wasnt a black captain, he was a captain that happened to be black just as Janeway was a captain that happened to be a woman.

Black Sails had a captain that was gay, and no one cared. Why? Because it didnt define him. It was part of who he was but it wasnt the only thing about him. He was heartbroken, he lusted for revenge and he would do anything to get it. Being gay didnt matter, and thats the difference IMO. Why you have diversity shouldnt be the focus, either in the show or in its promotion. STD went on and on about how it had a female captain and female first officer and gay character and blah blah blah. Anything else about these characters was secondary. Characters need more than what they are to describe them. I didnt care that flint was gay in black sails, all I cared about was that he was an awesome character that had flaws, and grew as the seasons went on. Give me as many characters that are black, gay or whatever as you want. Just dont make their defining characteristic be about what they identify as. Because it doesnt leave a lot of room for any growth in the character.

As long as it the same look as TNG then i’m onboard, not a fan of how Discovery is styled.

I would have loved a season 5 of enterprise. Rumour has it they were going to be doing the romulan war, which given how they handled season 3 could have been awesome. If only enterprise had stayed the same syndication model as the previous star treks 7 seasons would have been easy. And from what Ive seen of Bakula on the subject hes still pissed about how it ended. So hed be up for it, if he could get away from his ncis show.

The creative team for the newest Star Trekseries includes Alex Kurtzman, who serves as showrunner on CBS All Access' Discovery and whose recent overall deal with CBS Television Studios included marching orders to expand the beloved and global franchise.
