Television Star Trek

Have to say I am enjoying this a lot. One thing that really bugs me though- why do none of these super advanced starships ever have CCTV cameras? Or whatever the future equivalent is. Seems like a lot of shit could get resolved pretty easily if they had some cameras on the ship.

I'm talking mostly about
The doc's death.
as I've only seen up to episode 11 so far.

It's the one way they have stayed faithful to previous Trek shows

So, rattled through all 12 of these over last few evenings. I enjoyed the first 6 more than the last 6.
Any mentions of a season 2??

It was renewed for a second season ages ago.

Episode 13 was incredible. I'll refrain from discussing it until a few others have had a chance watch.

Wow, now this was a good episode!

Really enjoyed it.... maybe there is hope for season 2!

I was wondering why it seemed unfinished.
When are these last 3 episodes available on Netflix? Where are they being shown first?

Each episode is released at around 1.30am every Monday morning on CBS's online channel in the US. I think Netflix then re-broadcasts it the next day, so 13 should be available in Norn now.

The Emperor is going to stay in this universe now? What happens to the other universe? Massive power vacuum there now.

She was moments from death anyway.

I reckon we'll see
Mirror Burnham come back in order to mount an attack on the Prime Burnham.

Decent episode. Not sure I'll keep watching though with Lorca gone. He was the only character I liked on that show.

or she could stay put in the mirror universe and take charge as the new emperor.

She'll need to kill the incumbent in order to solidify her claim. That's what Lorca was trying to do before he got killed. It wasn't enough for him to dethrone Georgiou. He needed her head on a platter; just as Burnham will.

They could use her. I mean the Klingon's are basically the Terrain Empire of the prime universe. Maybe this Trek is in fact non-cannon and it will focus on the human rebellion

Mediocre at best but then again much of the first 2 seasons of DS9 were rather poor, and a lot of people gave up on Enterprise before it improved into a worthwhile Trek.

The dearth of likeable characters is something that I struggle with, they can sometimes carry poor writing and dull plotting if the little character moments are engaging but this cast is dour.

last episode was fecking awesome. But we need more brain eating Klingons.

ps. Is Lorca really dead? Maybe he went into the quantum world and might come back?

He's been Ned Stark'ed, I reckon. It was always going to be a stretch to ask Jason Isaacs to become a regular cast member on a serialised show.

Not impressed at all with the series. Last episode was especially crap. Shame as it looks visually stunning.

It's telling that I don't know the names of most of the people on the bridge yet...that ginger one with the shaved side of the head, don't know her name, the black fella and black woman on the bridge, don't know their names, the robot woman thing, not a clue...

To me, centering on the main two or three people, you lose a lot of story telling opportunity...

Just finished the last episode....how did Lorca manage to take the ship so easily? I thought the Emperor had "11 battalions on the ship". And Lorca's "don't worry, I have a plan" just involved shooting like 6 dudes.

Did you not see the poison gas?

Loving this show, reading the comments on here think most proper Trekkies hate it and non Trekkies like it. Although now they are in an alternate time line so that explains away the technology again. Now i’m Guessing the Emperor might take captaincy of the ship and lead a rebel army against the Klingons.

If you've noticed, they've been giving some of the side crew more lines and screen time. So i'm guessing they'll start expanding out next season and giving a backstory to some of them. At least I hope that's the case because they can't just focus on 4/5 characters for the entire show.

I just noticed that now we have a female admiral, captain and first officer. The only klingon thats important is also a female. The only human male who's important is gay while other male characters are aliens.

Lorca was arguably the most influential character, until his death.

Same thing's happening on another rather popular show on HBO.

Statistically speaking, the probablility of 4 important human characters being female is the same as them being male.

Stamets being gay doesn't undermine his gender. And Saru/Clem Fandago are both packing sausage so it's not like men are being elided from powerful positions.

The idea of a black/Japanese bridge officer would have raised just as many eyebrows back in the days when TOS aired. But, again, statistically speaking, white people are a small minority of present-day humans and only getting smaller. Women are 50%, so the odds of 4 of them being in those prominent roles is actually quite high.

By the way, I know that you're only raising an interesting point about casting in modern day TV. I'm not having a go at you. I'm just pointing out that this is only noteworthy because it's more realistic than other futuristic shows that don't also portray women in the central roles.

EDIT: Also, Sarek.

Errrmm..

"From what you've told us about the Terran Empire, no Starfleet officer could survive that universe alone. So my Gabriel is dead."

Well, okay, then. Let's move on. Nothing to see here. Case closed. That brings an end to that chapter. Exit stage left. That's all she wrote. Anyone fancy a Maccy D's?

I've generally really enjoyed Discovery. I maintain it's the best show currently airing (in February 2018). But the above line is the worst they've ever written.

Wasn’t a bad season finale. Liked how they handled the Klingon threat, I knew they’d bring the enterprise in at some stage. Should make for an interesting season 2.

All in all season 1 was a bit of a mess. Some good stuff dotted with a lot of bad. But I’d give it a 6/10

I thought it was brutal, easily the worst episode of the season. It's probably no coincidence that it didn't feature Lorca, the only character remotely interesting.

I enjoyed it, thought it was good episode. Not the best finale but not poor. The problem I have and will continue to have, is that I don't like Michaels.

They've also reduced the cast down by two in what was already a pretty small cast.

Was a bit of a damp finale. I was expecting given the dark tone of the series it’d go down in a blaze of glory and not the wimpy Star Trek way. The thing that set this apart from the rest was the darkness and real grit then it got all idiolistic. Just kinda spoiled it for me.

so anyone think the next captain they are picking up from Vulcan is spok? If so I wonder if Zachery Quinto would play him. Not sure he is up to much and he isn’t In a position where I think he could just refuse tv gigs right out. Who knows.

He'll be on the Enterprise at this point, iirc
