Television Squid Game (Netflix)

I was quite surprised to see it end at 7 episodes but once you realize that the next is the final season, it makes total sense. Splitting into two seasons is straight from their Money Heist playbook.

I quite enjoyed the season, despite some of the foolish decisions.

Finished it.

I thought the first six episodes were great, maybe not season 1 great, but still great.

But the last episode was so rushed. It almost feels like they planned a 10 episode season again, had it all ready to go, but then them or Netflix decided actually no, let’s split it into two, so they had to tamper on a hatchet job ending cliffhanger to keep it going. Just bizarre.

I didn't know how many episides there were, so i was surprised when it just stopped, and there were no more...
I googled how many episodes the season had, thinking that the last couple ones were being released later.
Found this:

After Squid Game season 1 became Netflix’s most-watched show of all time and a global sensation, the streamer naturally offered director Hwang Dong-hyuk the chance to do another season. While Hwang initially agreed to develop a second season, the story he wanted to tell ended up growing into a third chapter. Squid Game’s seasons 2 and 3 were written at the same time and were also produced concurrently. Squid Game 3 is currently in post-production, hence the much shorter wait for the show to return in 2025.

So aparantly it was the director, not Netflix' decision.

It was decently watchable but actually stupid shite when you think about it. It depends on a main character just being stupid, and a lot of the supporting cast doing things that help the plot rather than themselves.
Well yeah most of what we watch is stupid shite, that's what makes it entertaining and not boring. It's people playing kids games for money and getting shot in the face when they get out.

Such as 'hey guys, I won this before and everybody else died. And since I dont care about the money, I'll add my 45bn won to this prize fund so we get one of these votes over the line'

But there's usually a logic to what people do within the show, not just doing whatever helps the plot.

For example. And why go back into the games, to then try to leave them right from the start. And acting as though every life is sacred and saving everyone, only to then let most of his own 'clan' be slaughtered so he could stage a revolt with a handful of others against a heap of guards.

He joined the games again to take them down from within. I'm not sure how that's not obvious having watched it?

I got that. But then he tried to get everyone to vote to leave right away? Or what was his plan really - how was he going to 'take them down from within'? The plan to overpower the guards and storm the back-offices seemed to come about by chance, and that was a ridiculous plan anyway. And he seemed very keen to get people to vote to leave, but seemingly not smart enough to realise that they were staying because of money, which he has plenty of. Why not take a handful of the 'O's aside and offer them a good chunk of his 40billion+ won?

It's a decent watch, don't get me wrong. But the writing is pretty poor/lazy.

Plan A was him meeting with one of the organisers after the club scene and his team of armed ex-military guys swarming in on his command to take them down.

Plan B was him entering the games with tracker so his team of armed ex-military guys could storm the place and take over. The problem was that they took the tracker and shoved it in some fisherman's tackle before he got there.

3 episodes in, not too impressed with the second season.

So much filler e.g. in the first game they all laugh before the start how easy and familiar the game is. Then we get a dragging 10 minute scene with 456 screaming instructions how the game is played and still they all look surprised and play like retards.
That's just one example of many.

The Thanos character is obviously comic relief, God some of you are depressed
Even his English speaking parts are pure trolling

Just finished it and enjoyed it.

That coward guy needs to die a horrible death for letting that smokin' hot chick with the piercings (Se-Mi) die.

I was looking out for her in every wide shot

Byung Hun Lee is one of my favourite Korean actors so was nice seeing him in another big role. I Saw The Devil is one of my favourite films.

Could be but also would be silly when you think about it.
I don't think.

I'm pretty sure he mentioned he had a wife and son. They would be able the right age and they never mentioned the father. Is it possible that he was estranged? It's quite likely Oh Il Nam's was a horrible man and they got away from him, not even accepting a penny of his money.

That's a good point and would be a nice touch.

There's surely an unofficial rule that every season of Squid Game must have a skinny, badass female character who everyone (straights, bis, gays and all genders) fall for. It's almost an artform at this stage!
