Television Squid Game (Netflix)

Thanos was so unbelievably unlikable, I can't tell if he was really terribly acted, or if the actor was actually really great at playing an absolutely terrible fecking prick.

In the final round of the Mingle episode, there were 3 people in 001's room, when there should only have been 2, so 001 choked the other guy to death. I'm guessing they weren't eliminated because 001 is the plant?

Overall, it was a good season, but the long voting scenes were a bit of a drag. Like others have said, it seemed naive that 456 didn't suspect 001 of being a plant again. It did seem to kill the suspense as you knew 001 would turn, it was just a matter of when.
001 killing that guy, I guess they checked if he was dead, and because he was, there were only 2 people alive in the room so it counted.

As for Thanos, if you absolutely hated him, he nailed it

Thanos played a good comedic foil.

The characters similarities to T.O.P’s real life makes it interesting too. He had a scandal for smoking weed in real life and this is his first acting role since then. The character was going to commit suicide, he overdosed during the scandal amid harassment from the media and fans. The line about remembering his raps also references a time he forgot his lyrics on a rap show.

Just finished it and enjoyed it.

That coward guy needs to die a horrible death for letting that smokin' hot chick with the piercings (Se-Mi) die.

I was looking out for her in every wide shot

Byung Hun Lee is one of my favourite Korean actors so was nice seeing him in another big role. I Saw The Devil is one of my favourite films.
He's one of my favs too, when he took the mask off in season 1 I was so happy.

I guess because the third person was dead before the timer it was allowed.

I thought that could be a possibility too, but seemed like a little bit of a cop out.

Yeah I'm gonna give Thanos the benefit of the doubt, I think it's a very well acted arsehole. I did chuckle seeing him pilled up and just prancing around through the games. He was very easy to hate, but I was sad he got fork stabbed.

I'm on episode 5. What the feck is that marble-y game where they're throwing them around and catching them on the back of their hand?

Yeah, plus we're meant to dislike him.

You are. But if he makes you think the show isnt very good, or makes you want to stop watching its not very useful. Season 1 being good is all that kept me watching when he was doing everything to make me cancel my subscription

He has no depth, he has no character progression, he has no redeeming qualities, he has very little personality and they made him look stupid on top of that. I mean his appearance, but he also died looking stupid. He existed so that they could have a cryptocurrency guy being bullied by him and then then kill him in self defence. Thats all he existed for. And that would be fine if he was a rarely seen background character but he got a lot of screentime and focus. He was the main villain of the players, other than the secret main villain (to the players)

In contrast the 2nd main villain is probably the old guy who wants everyone to keep playing. He actually had some character and some decent points when Gihun wants to stop the games. He wasnt a shallow character, even if his character was shallow in personality. 3rd main villain (from the players point of view) or joint 2nd would be the woman who was into fortunes and fate. She was just petty and fell out with everyone over minor stuff. Even that is a decent enough character that was leagues ahead of this guy.

started off great but just got a bit dull - such a bizarre 'finale'

I don’t think there was any character development anywhere. Season 1 you got invested in several of the players the show directs you towards. They were mostly fleshed out I thought.

In s2 there’s 2 characters and the rest are just salad dressing. It’s a filler season, feels like it exists solely to extract 1 more year of Netflix subs
Agree that there's a lack of character development but also the story and number of episodes doesn't allow too much of it. Player 456 becomes much more of a protagonist and his story is more central to the plot.

What's more, what is the point of fleshing out these characters and for people to get invested in them if they're highly likely to die?

In season 1 it worked as we had different standards for killing a character, now we are accustomed to it, what do the writers do to keep it fresh and impactful?

I think the writers are between a rock and a hard place now. Perhaps it will look better when season 3 comes out.

I've said before but I think there is still more that can be done with the squid game universe that doesn't require player 456 as a protagonist. They could even kill him in the next season half-way through to do something quite unexpected.

I enjoyed this about as much as s1. Obviously the ending wasn’t satisfying at all. Felt like we were only halfway through the season. Was a good half season though.
It technically is, it was all filmed concurrently but split by Netflix at their request apparently.

The reason you develop characters that die is to increase the impact of their death on the audience.

I think the issue is the splitting into two seasons when it should have been one. I can think of a couple of shocks that could happen in the second part and there's less characters left so they can concentrate on them a bit more.

Yeah she's gorgeous, I'd melt if she looked at me. Stunner.

My wife can do this game, she's really good at it. Said she played it growing up a lot.

The Thanos actor was brilliant, one of the best things about the entire season.
Not finished the season yet (playing my own Squid Game and risking spoilers) but he's so fecking annoying that I love it. That first game where he pops a pill was brilliant.

Pretty much.
Give her a challenge:

Loved s1 and hated this one ... slow start and started fast forwarding through the season after episode 3 or so.

Some really annoying actors, especially the son.

Really hope season 3 is better again.

I'm in complete agreement. 456 in my eyes is a little boring now and i've lost interest in his story. I did cringe on the first games where he's trying to save everyone. Thankfully Thanos made this season more enjoyable to watch.

Did you pause each of her wide shot.:lol:

Lot of talk about character development for what is ultimately a very daft OTT show with the kind of acting that comes with that.

My main gripe is that it felt a bit like they chopped the end off the season, but that will presumably make the third season more interesting than it would be otherwise.

It worked for me as I hadn't read there was a 3rd season so it was a surprise. Was trying to work out while watching how they were going to wrap it all up so quickly

I didn't actually keep track of how many episodes there was this season and just assumed it would be 8 or 10. Safe to say I was confused by the ending.

Why hasn't daytime tv created quid game yet challenging contestants to see what treasures they can buy for a solitary pound of the queen's finest
I think it'll be a matter of years before the poor are gunned down for our entertainment

feck Netflix for ending the season like that.
