Solskjaer's legacy and his future

Yeah because they'd be on monster wages we couldn't get rid of if we tried. If Inter Milan hadn't got a hard on for United deadwood we'd be stuck with even more of the Maureen era wasters.
Yes, because the likes of Cavani, Mata(yes him too is on 160k per week barely playing), Cristiano, Maguire, Sancho, etc etc are not currently on astronomical wages?

Yet we offloaded those players and even if took some losses it was not as tragic financially. Ole's period is just as wasteful considering Jones new contract, buying players for tens of millions and never using them like VDB and easily passing on 20-30m pounds like in case of Lingard, that OGS wanted to keep only to let him leave on free. Oh, add Pogba to that. We've been wasteful for a long while now, it's not only Jose - it's the whole management.

Who’s buying Maguire for £80mil? & AWB for £50?

Mourinho failing doesn’t mean OgS didn’t. We’re now lumbered with both of their deadwood signings. Remind me, who extended Matics contract? Oh yea, Moyes signed Mata, who extended his latest deal?

Forget José, we all know he was awful. OgS has wasted 3 seasons.

Our dogshit scouting network that out of every single centre back and right back on the face of this earth, just so happened to only pick out two blokes they watched on Match of the Day every weekend currently owned by clubs who a) had absolutely no reason to sell and b) had a completely desperate buyer who it'd turn out would pay exactly what they demanded.

You're completely right but I wish we had some consistency in whether we take transfers as something to judge a manager on, or not. It just wouldn't make sense to blame scouting network for less successful deals and then praise Ole he unearthed a hidden gem in Bruno.

Maybe he extensively follows the Portuguese league on satellite. That's where he found the other gem in Telles, who also.. oh wait?

Absolutely the correct call to move on. As a former athlete, it really hurts to watch a coach take the fall when players are equally to blame. The Ole ride had some great times and I wish him all the best. He restored hope for a brief moment and provided some great football moments. Olegend forever.

Exactly.

He’s blamed Morinho for ‘Maureen era wasters’ then absolved OgS of any blame because it’s ‘Our dogs hit scouting network’.

I’m more than happy to praise Solskjaer for the Bruno signing so long as we lay other signings at his door. It’s the same nonsense people used to praise OgS for getting rid of the likes of Lukaku & Sanchez but then blamed the ‘dogshit scouting network’ when we didn’t sign players.

Both failed. End of.

If, with every single footballer on the planet available to you and two positions to find options in, your only two on the list both play in the Premier League - how is that anything other than shit scouting? Christ, even the two examples of Maureen era wasters you named just so happened to both be playing in England when we signed them. How much are we paying these guys?

Would it be better if I called them 'Head scout Jobsworth McShitatjob era wasters'?

Hasn't it become pretty obvious ever since Fergie managers have little to say in transfers?

Yet some people still use this as a stick to beat Jose with, yet to praise Ole for. Absolutely double standards around here..

I don’t care what you call them, you’re the one wading in here. Them playing in England is an issue now apparently. Where did the aforementioned Maguire & AWB play previously? So the ‘Maureen era wasters’ are infact due to the ‘dogshit scouting network’. . . so what’s your actual point?

I’m not differentiating. Both failed. I could take or leave their transfer records as both were underwhelming.

This is what he’s been told but he’ll use mental gymnastics to lambast Jose with.

Jose was crap, all I’m saying is it’s rather questionable if OgS was really any better.

OGS was a legend that made memories for us as a player and a coach. Don’t forget we won some great games in his time as coach but he wasn’t the right man to take the next step.

Of course them playing in England is an issue. English clubs are absolutely loaded, which is why we end up paying the astronomical fees that get brought up on here 50 times a match thread.

I’d have bought elsewhere too but that didn’t come across as your initial point. For me, both had poor transfer records & I agree, their domestic buys have been disappointing.

Jose won something & left an unbalanced/unhappy squad.

OgS won nothing & left an unbalanced/unhappy squad.

It’s not really a debate but is a case of bad & worse.
Ole has just out stayed his welcome. He was on track to do a decent bridge building restructuring type job but the last 6 months or so has been absolutely horrible and undid anything thst could be construed positive. Mourinho whilst a mess, did deliver two pieces of silverware in a relatively short space of time.

I agree on OgS. If he’d have been utilised as ‘the bridge’ then replaced this situation wouldn’t have been allowed to become so toxic. It’s fully understandable why people got carried away but I’ve been saying he should have gone after the Sevilla loss & I think that would have been strangely on a high regardless of the loss we were poised to be coached upwards.

Jose by a country mile. Both were not good enough though.
Jose was horrible but how is his post even a question? One won trophies also got us 2nd(Ole’s biggest achievement) with more points never the less and spent less money

When he came into this club as a caretaker manager. The team was in complete disarray. The fans were depressed watching drab football year after year and the players were stuck in a rut. But when he came in, he lifted the players up and never stopped trying to be better. That PSG game was incredible. Watching that smug ratface prick and Neymar cry was One of the most satisfying victories I've seen in years. He gave us so much entertainment we've been crying out for at the start with fast attacking football. The players and fans were enjoying themselves again. He never threw any blame at the players. Not once, even when it was. He gave a shit about the club. Also managed to Get rid of most of the deadwood and rebuilt the disaster LVG and Jose left behind. The 2nd season he beat city 3 times in one season and got us top 4 again. There was hope for a bright future. Each season was an improvement, but unfortunately Ole was unlucky in not Winning any silverware. He came close so many times and sadly it ends in failure. Despite that, there was still a bit of hope that he'd get a great squad together and finally get us back to the top. Had one of the best summer's ever imo, in getting a world class defender, a Right Winger we've needed since Nani left and one of the best player ever play the game. This was the season that for the first time I fully believed we could win some trophies. Sadly after a flying start, everything fell apart after the lost to West Ham. It's clear He's taking us as far as he could. He's been extremely lucky everytime he got backed into a corner and now the luck has run out. The board was indecisive which has probably cost us top 4 this season. In saying a that, given how ugly it's gotten recently, he's left the next manager with a much better squad that's hungry for success. Every single United fan wanted him so badly to succeed. Thanks for the memories Ole. Best of luck to him in the future.

What a great supersub manager he has been! But overstayed too long in the end.

For what? He’s left us I a mess.

We have Ronaldo, Varane and Sancho and have won 2 games in the league in 2 months.

Thanks for nothing. 3 years 0 trophies.

I think it's going to take a few weeks for the mist to clear a little. A lot of emotion about the place at the moment which will make it hard to appraise his work and the state we're left in.

Also, to some extent, we have to wait. We may be every bit as bad and unbalanced as we look or we may be reasonably healthy and needing a different face to direct things. Probably somewhere in the middle.

Overall you can probably say that he's at least done okay with respect to league positions, but disappointed in cup competitions and finals and really should have won something. Without getting into the finer detail of performance and context that's about how I'd sum him up.

For what? In his first season he left us where Mourinho left us. Now we're even worse off despite the 500 million spent.

Good riddance. It’ll take a long while before I’ll get over the fact that he’s been one of our worst ever manager and remember that he is a club legend.

Good post.. just need some paragraphs!

The laughs are poor form. Its frustrating as hell thats it got to this point. Ole clearly not a great manager, relying on luck and individual brilliance.

His signings were obvious, not astute. He has also failed quite a few of the signings so has overall done a poor job.

However, he is still a club legend. He is the most consistently likeable manager since SAF.

He did seem to have good influence at times, but the Board failed him. You have to know limitations when you see them.

As another user on this board is fond of saying...

If I speak....
