My point was that Pogba and Raiola came out publicly and said he wanted to leave, this is a key difference. Of course this may have an affect on how our board are able to maximise what they consider full value for a sale as it shows a level of desperation for the deal to get done. Pogba is not Neymar level of player(he was the third best player in the world at the time).
The reality is United have a player that wants to leave and join the biggest club in the world. We can't offer Cl football and no guarantee we will in the near future. Obviously all these circumstances coming together affects how much we can realistically get for him. Does that mean we sell for 100m, no imo. Once you get qet offers of 130m plus for him though we have to seriously consider them as the alternative of keeping an unhappy player for another year while he decreases in value is not a good one.
If people think keeping an unhappy, already inconsistent Pogba against his wishes is a better option than cashing in and buying 2 top quality midfielders then good luck to them but it makes zero sense imo, especially considering we already have a rebuild on our hands so starting with disposing of the bad apples makes perfect sense.
Not really. Agents saying players wanna leave and players saying "I need a new challenge" happens every summer. Hazard's been saying that for about 5 years and only now moved. And you're right Neymar is not even close to Pogba's level. Neymar is a showpony who disappears in pretty much every big moment. Pogba is a world cup winner.
Again its you assuming that Pogba is unhappy. He's never said anything of the sort and if it was even remotely true he'd be treated exactly like Lukaku is being treated now. The fact that he isn't says that you're wrong. But if you'd rather lose a player just because he says he wants a new challenge or cos his agent spouts nonsense pretty soon you'll only be left with academy players and players with no ambition who nobody else wants.
I seen the Pogba interview, it was clear what his intent was from it. Learn to read between the lines.
That interview was very much a come and get me plea to Real of course but he was very careful not to say he wanted to leave, he just wanted to float the idea of a new challenge but not say anything that he couldn't walk back if he ends up staying. Paul and his agent are very smart operators when it comes to leveraging negotiations and using the media, if he ends up staying he will get his contract re-negotiated and at that point he will be far from unhappy. If we don't make massive progress during this season he will try the same routine next summer knowing he will probably be the first name on Reals shopping list but either way he will be getting paid and working his brand.
This is a really bad time to want to buy a lot of decent players. The market is totally overheated and it's a sellers' market.
The thing with reading between the lines is you never know if you're reading something that's actually there or just reading something because your perception is warped.

Its perfectly clear that Zidane wants Pogba and Pogba wants to have a career that matches his potential in terms of team and individual honors. Its also perfectly clear that Pogba has a relationship with United that goes very deep and if that possibility is there he'll want to do it with us. If on the other hand its looking like we're not going anywhere then yes he's not gonna wait around till he's 30 which is completely fair. But what Pogba wants now isn't necessarily what Pogba may want tomorrow.

As for Maguire I think we are now at a stage where we either match Leicester's valuation of maybe 80m, or we wont sign him. The time for negotiation is over.

Yes and Pogba will most likely leave but not for silly money like 200m. The only ones who value him that highly are our most deluded fans.
If reports are to be believes, 180 is what United set for this summer and he won’t go for less. It’s now also becoming too late in the window. What’s the use of selling a player for a crazy amount of money and not being able to reinvest substantially. Perhaps next summer if Real test our resolve at 130-150 towards the beginning of the window then it’s a different story.

You say it is a sellers market, yet no one wants to touch our deadwood or players we want out with a bargepole. Mainly due to their excessive wages & bonuses. You are right that any players we want to buy our overinflated. So we are in a bad position. In an ideal world will would tell the other clubs to get stuffed & don't buy anyone unless it is a fair price, & use our youth system. Unfortunately, I expect our youth players are not as good as people rate them & we will struggle. Not sure what is the answer.

Part of the problem is we extended the contracts of some of the dead wood. We could have shifted a few by now had we not done that. What's the bet that Darmian is still a United played this time next year.
We desperately need 3 big signings (cb, dm, rw) otherwise we are finishing behind arsenal next season as things stands as you have also factor in the gulf in quality between Emery and Solskjear, we would end up having to bank on having an easy Europa league like when we won it under Mourinho buy I highly doubt it will be like that.

And these are not luxury signings, adding just that little bit more quality to an well oiled machine, no these are supposed be necessary additions to a struggling team that will significantly improve the squad and go straight into the starting eleven.
Most players need time to settle down in their new team, but we're going to need immediate impact from them with likely less than a week training. And sure there's a chance that most of them would need a while to fully get in form anyway, but you know what would make their integration easier? If they managed to get a full preseason with their new club.

A unproven manager with a new system that will face two difficult sides in the first two games and we've decided that the best way to do business is to play the waiting game. OGS has said multiple times that a good start is important, but there's no indication that we'll managed to add anyone before deadline fecking day.

Possibly another summer going by without our attack significantly strengthened. It's been a problem for 6 years now, and just strange that we don't seem to address it like it is. We've signed one RW over the last 3-4 years - Mkhitarian - despite it being a clear problem area. You'd think as soon as that one didn't work, we'd go ahead and correct it immediately but here we are with the the only links being for CMs and CBs right now. We've signed no playmaker for ages - Pogba is creative but not really a playmaker. We've signed one CF and that too a technically poor one in Lukaku.
I know there's a lot of additions that take place when a squad needs to improve but can't help but feel we need to do more when it comes to attack. Hopefully we see big improvements from withing this season and then next year we can make a bigger splash if needed.

lukaku's exit was on the cards before Maguire's interest was confirmed. Say we had a hard cap of 100m, we've allegedly spent 72. This 28 left. If we received an initial offer of 50 is million for Lukaku, thats 78 million. If inter are paying more now, hence we can go back in with a higher bid for lukaku as per the press association journo.
Or it could be utter nonsense. Are you saying that if Leicester accepted £70m, United would have taken £50m for Lukaku? A £25m + whatever bonuses may have been paid loss on their second highest ever signing, making Ed look an utter pillock in the process?
Maybe the Maguire signing is taking longer because Leicester don't want to sell him, have stacks of cash and it's a really difficult deal to complete.
