Am I the only one who doesn't get this? His defensive stats are appalling and the only thing he excels at is his passing in a league that allows you more time on the ball... I don't see him coming in as a DM to allow Case to rest, perhaps just as a DLP next to casemiro but then again his progressive passing also is garbage.
His stats are deceiving, he is being bought as back up for Casemiro and as a defensive cm. Passing and defending is what he does, he doesn’t contribute much offensively.

Is this move worth the rumored 22m? I know he's a fighter and loved him at the WC, but Morocco plays defensive as feck so it might have made him look better than he is. Although we desperately need a backup for Casemiro, I would have preferred to see a younger option with a higher ceiling here since his playing time will probably be limited.

Also a bit disappointed that Mainoo isn't going to be the backup now. Liked what I saw thus far.

I just know he had a good World Cup and that is about all I know about him.

I watched him in the conference league final and imo he was much better in that game than Rice.

He will always be famous for staying with Mbappe in a foot race and then slide tackling him at the end.

He is 26 hardly over the hill, we need squad players, hopefully Mainoo is the one with the scope to develop, better to have somebody competent and confident now to allow more scope for development

Surprised these haven't been posted.

Colin Millar doesn't post transfer stuff usually.

Some people think football is so simple that you can put any player in any position and he would perform. Problem solved. How the hell can anyone think of Mctom to be cover for Casemiro is beyond me. Might as well put Mount there too.
A bit like John stones playing in CM and performing. You ever heard of top managers retraining players positions?

This has been a very silent transfer (so far) in the sense that all the noise has been from Fiorentina side...very little English media have run with it.

So far this summer United have been very controlled and premeditated in the way they have conducted business.

I'm not saying that, but theres a big difference in a 19-20 yr old kid sitting behind Casemiro vs a 26, almost 27 yr old in terms of growth.

He's worth that sort of money all day long, instantly we upgrade an area that cost us last season (Case suspensions) for a player that's only soon to be 27, if we get him he's going to end up playing a lot more than people think.

Mainoo is getting chances this season but he can't go straight in as the only backup.

I don't know if it's true that he rejected Liverpool in favour of us but I like it.

The guy already gone up in my estimations.

What I am a fan of is his passing stats. Last sesson our collection of CMs were all very loose with the ball, Eriksen wasn't great either. Adding Amrabat will improve our ability to keep the ball. We'll also have an option off the bench like Arsenal do with Jorginho to add control to the game.

Our bench options last year in Mcfred could only add chaos when being subbed on. Bruno and Casemiro are already pretty chaotic themselves but their quality justifies it. Adding Amrabat and Mount adds a semblance of calm to the midfield on the ball while still having the necessary bite off the ball.

Stupid logic that doesn’t make any sense. To change positions of a player you need to have to some fundamentals in their game to play that position. We are talking about Mctominay, a midfielder who hides from the ball, have fewer touches than most players, who is found out positionally and is technically average at best. Do you think ten hag thinks Scott is good enough and would retrain him for that DM role? There is a reason Ten Hag is interested in signing Amrabat. Get the hint.

The issue is people think Amrabat is a backup to Casemiro, when he’s not.
He’s a different option and a different profile at the base of midfield, which would offer the manager depth as well as options to vary our play.
He could play instead of Casemiro and alongside him depending on the opposition. It would be an astute signing.

Ye but I was saying he’s the closest DM we have other than Casemiro. We ain’t signing Amrabat unless we sell one of our midfielders and sign a ST. So this conversation is pointless at the minute. I never said Mctominay was good because he’s awful. I just think he’s the one who’s play there when Casemiro is unavailable. I’ve not seen Mctominay linked with anyone where as Fred looks like he’s on the move.

I’m not sure I believe this, not enough English press is on this smells like someone trying to use our name like the Kim transfer.

Feels like a limited player.

Other than the WC, where I thought he was excellent, the only other time I saw him play was in the conference league final. For me he had a much better game than Declan Rice. I think he will make an excellent squad player

Fair enough.

Could we see him, Casemiro and Mount in midfield and Bruno out on the right when Antony doesn't start?

There's few options now and add Eriksen in the mix. Good to see

Yep. It’s the only way to compete with City. It’s not about having a plan B or C anymore but the standard off the bench to play plan A optimally until the 90th minute.
It’s no good having to rest a midfielder and be forced to play the likes of Fred or a make-shift player away to Villa after a tough CL away game while trying to reach 90 plus points.

You are correct, and its been explained many many times on here but people dont listen. Its "we dont need a 26 year old backup for casemiro, why dont we get a 19 year old one". When hes not a backup for casemiro but a different option and type of midfielder.

Feels like a limited player.

I mean we are spending £20m for him, its not like we are breaking the bank. He is there to raise the floor. He is an upgrade to both Fred and McTominay.

There is also a reason why Ten Hag is looking for new midfielders when he has McTominay. Some people think a manager can make a shit player into prime Gullit.
