Mainoo is 17 and nowhere near ready for a team aspiring to win the league. I mean I assume our goal is to win the league
After 12 months in charge for EtH & multiple hangovers from past managers hanging around? I suspect we’ll do better than last year but under no circumstances should we be expected to challenge in the way an Arsenal after 5 years of Arteta should, Kobe is perfectly suited to where we are at.

Agreed. How old was foden when he got called into the city team? Age doesn’t matter aslong as you have the talent and he bossed a game against a very strong Arsenal team. He’s ready to play a part next season. ETH will do what he did with Garnacho and slowly break him into the first team.
Foden was a bit part player and City were still stacked with experienced squad players. Some on here are living in cloud cuckoo land thinking we can catch City by selling mctominay and Fred and just make doing with Mainoo. Seriously, get real

Great price, but I fail to see the need with Mainoo around.

Because quite obviously you can't rely on Mainoo yet, he'll be part of the squad.
Also it seems to have gone over most peoples head that Ambrabat if we signed him would be the closest player in the side to Mainoo.
Meaning ETH clearly wants to evolve the makeup of the midfield

Alfredo Pedulla: "Not only Rasmus Hojlund, Manchester United are also looking for a midfielder. And he spotted it in Sofyan Amrabat . After what has been said in recent days, we can add that contacts are increasingly active and that important steps were taken during the day as well. Amrabat said yes to the transfer, now the Red Devils have to make some exits but they have also bet on the Moroccan. It can be done for a base of 22-25 million plus bonuses to get to 30. We are not at the definitive agreements, but it is a hot lead and one to follow."

If we're talking to Amrabat's camp and letting them know of our interest in him, then there's a good chance that we're going to get Højlund. We wouldn't be pursuing him if we didn't bag a new striker.

Some people are very reluctant to see us use young players. Mainoo is a top talent though and he is surrounded by some absolute warriors and crucially, a manager who knows how to knit everything together. I've got nothing against Amrabat, but he isn't someone who can compete with Bruno or Mount, while Mainoo has clearly been earmarked as the backup/competition for Casemiro.

Nobody’s saying that though. Have we not signed Mount? Do we still not have Bruno, Eriksen and Casemiro? So it’s not making do with just Mainoo. We’ve called up a young player each season, who’s it gonna be this year if it isn’t Mainoo?

I don't think that's clear at all

Exactly. Mainoo should be part of the squad. Therefore what is the point in signing Amrabat?

Read the post, ETH wants another player similar to Mainoo who can be relied upon now, whilst Mainoo is brought through
Key attributes being first phase build up and control of the midfield

The Moroccan reporter seems to have reported the same thing that Pedullà later reported, which is that Amrabat is open to joining Manchester United (albeit in a more hyped-up, extravagant manner). Keep in mind that we aren't his first choice; should a top La Liga club come calling (e.g. Barcelona), Amrabat will choose them over United.

Didn't Barca just sign Oriol Romeu a couple days ago? I can't imagine they will be after Amrabat too. Real Madrid won't be going for him as they're stocked in midfield.

Not surprising at all. All of these are easily done no?
I think If VDB has a good pre season then ETH will keep him as a useful squad option. Is it what we want, probably not but we can’t just sell all our midfielders unless we’re replacing them.

Doubt it

Agreed. However, I feel that he is good enough to be a squad option right now. Relegating him to third choice DM is not helpful.
Having him in the first team at 18 in the first place is a massive show of confidence in and of itself tbf.

However many minutes he gets this season will be a huge bonus

But we already have Casemiro. I assume the plan for the majority of the season will be to play with one 6 and two 8's.

Who isn't that type of player at all.
Also the plan won't work for all games, hence wanting to include that profile

You're correct, Mainoo is a top talent. And I've been singing his praises since 2021 and thankfully he's proved me correct thus far.

But we have to manage his development carefully. And having two players like Casemiro and Amrabat can only help him. And it can also mean that we can utilise the double pivot instead of a single pivot if we had a option like Amrabat where Mainoo could partner either Casemiro or Amrabat in certain games.

I think someone like Amrabat will be good for Mainoo's development.

Relegating him?! He's a child playing for Manchester United, that's more than a big enough vote of confidence in him right now.
A vote of confidence would be making him a genuine part of the squad. Having him stick around as third choice to Casemiro and Amrabat is not helpful.

He couldn’t even get on as part of the second string against Arsenal. He’s got no hope.

Precisely this. Also Amrabat would play with Casemiro in certain games too.
ETH does not want the same midfield makeup as last season being the key point.

The fact that our manager himself is interested in signing Amrabat should tell you that. Mainoo is nowhere ready yet. Hell we don’t even know if he will ever be good enough for us. Promising yes but ready No and I’m glad ten Hag feels that way too.

Just stop this already. This overhyping of youngsters, and desperately wanting to throw them into the team to immediately become important players isn't going to help the club reach it's goals

You think Mainoo will get a significant amount of minutes as a third choice DM? If we decide to use him additionaly as a deputy to Bruno and Mount, then perhaps. However, he hasn't been used there at all to date.

He'll get significant minutes if he does well enough and justifies them? Honestly, you're worrying about a youngsters place in the squad too much too soon. If he's good enough, he'll play.

Yeah, so that rules out Barcelona for now. I gave them as an example as they were genuinely interested in Amrabat. Atletico Madrid's also genuinely interested in him but haven't gone beyond just monitoring the player. We'd do well to seal the deal before Atletico Madrid ramp up their interest.

I'm not trying to throw him into the team. However, a special talent should be used as such and given a significant amount of minutes as a squad option. I was just expressing concern that adding Amrabat might deprive Mainoo of too many minutes.

Better not to think of set 1st 2nd and 3rd choice. Three players competing for one or two spots depending on tactics, and one of those three being a kid (!) is a perfect situation imo.

I’d like to see the same with Hannibal, Bruno and Mount.

No doubt Mainoo and Hannibal are huge talents. They can both break through despite being in the mix with top quality experienced pros.
