For me 20 - 30 games would be great for a first real season if he proves capable. He'd definitely get that and more even with Amrabat in the team. Injuries, suspensions, fitness issues.. etc.Too much competition is a drawback. Overcoming Casemiro is competition enough.

completely agree.We certainly need to strengthen in midfield but I am concerned that he isn't really good enough. He was outstanding in the world cup but the league is a better barometer and he has not been a star.

This is a signing I'd expect a top half PL team to make but not the likes of City / Madrid / Barca etc, which is where in our minds we belong and be making similar signings like they are.
If we're signing a 27 year old, I'd be wanting him to be a world class player known to the world who other teams go "wholly feck, that is one hell of a signing". I don't see that in amrabat at all.

Yep. Looks like the plan was Mainoo alongside Casemiro. Amrabat seems to be a short-term cover option, which presumably makes the obligation to buy that Fiorentina want a bit difficult for us. I don't think this is happening.

Yeah but Amrabat is a seasoned international with years of playing in a top league under his belt. Mainoo’s time will come.He can play as the 6, but we won't be dropping Casemiro. I agree that he is being signed as a tactical variation, but that sounds like a squad role to me. We already have competition for the 6 in Mainoo. McTominay is still hanging around too.
It's the suspensions that are going to happen as Casemiro plays on the edge all the time.We desperately need to signing to have enough bodies as cover for the Prem season.
It would allow us to rest Casemiro once in a while.
