So...what could Van Troll's Surprise be!? | LVG: "not a striker - it's something else"

Who is the striker the media has written about? It seems like van LVG is commenting on a specific player mentioned by the media (whoever that is) - not every single player who has been linked with us. The mystery striker could very well be someone whom he have been linked to.
He's saying it's someone we haven't been linked to.

It's Gary Goals.

 That's hilarious

Why would LvG be on a wind up, surely wouldn't want to piss the fans off...
Maybe it is someone we have been linked with and LVG is trying to throw everyone off the scent. Hes winding up the journos to see how many other strikers we can be linked with before the end of the window.

I don't think this is going to be a top player. It's someone who'll be competing with Chicharito to be backup to Rooney.

Still feel like we'll see Fellaini up front at least five times this season.

Ibra is one of those players that is fun to watch when he's not actually in your team, his ego and attitude would not be a good fit with the great team spirit we are building at United, not to mention LvG and him hate each other and I don't see him accepting a back-up role. I still think people listing #9's are ignoring the fact LvG sees all of the front 3 as strikers, the forward will be a wide right striker IMO.

It will either be Benzema or Ibra. You could make the case that either of the 2 would be a "surprise" and are realistically attainable. Keep in mind that Crerand said it would be a surprise for fans and that Woodward was pushing for it which means a marquee name. That rules out guys like Berahino.
In the case of Benzema, Benitez said Bale playing centrally was not an experiment which means Benzema is on the bench. We also know that Perez wants Bale featured more heavily as well. What the Real Madrid president wants, he often gets. Benzema won't be content with that which plays to the comments his agent made about early summer speculation linking him to United. He said Benzema wouldn't leave unless he wasn't first choice. Ever since he said that, the papers haven't linked us to him. Benzema is also a big name, which is the kind of marquee signing Woodward and Adidas would want.
Ibra has been linked to a move back to Milan but they are not playing European football and we can't outbid them easily for wages. He would also be a marquee signing that would sell a lot of shirts worldwide. Yes there are question marks about how he and LvG would work but LvG values winning at the end of the day. Signing Ibra would almost guarantee we win the EPL.

if it was between Benzema or Ibra, I'd take the former every day of the week. I guess everyone would.

The Swedish journo / ghost-writer of that autobiography, recently admitted that he in fact wrote quite alot of that book & most of the major quotes etc. were not Zlatan's, but his interpretation of what he maybe meant, or was thinkin..

Sounds odd..................

You are quoting Graziano Pelle in that post!

I am guessing Benz or Berahino at this point.

Müeller would be my #1 guess.

First Ed with his "watch this space" comment last year and now LVG hints at a "surprise striker"...I am loving this!

Van Gaal might keep everyone guessing until the season starts.

Arriving at Carrington.

I think it's more likely it is someone we have been linked with, but LVG just doesn't know we have.

 we already had the invisible man up front for us last season, so why not?

:D

Its funny that many people think that Cavani will join. Why? Because Di Maria is about to join PSG?
Firstly, we wont buy Cavani, just because we are selling them Di Maria. The 2 deals are mutually exclusive.

Last year, we got
Falcao from PSG ...and did not give them anybody back.
Shaw from Southampton ...and did not give them anybody back.
Blind from Ajax ...and did not give them anybody back.
Di Maria from Madrid ...and did not give them anybody back.
Herrerra from Bilbao ...and did not give them anybody back.
Rojo from Sporting ...and did not give them anybody back.

I can compile a similar list for this year's signings and you see the same pattern.

So why on Earth would anybody think that we would buy a player, just so we could sell them our player? It makes no logical sense.

Oh and as for who are we getting this Summer...I think it'll be Muller or Pedro or nobody.
