So...what could Van Troll's Surprise be!? | LVG: "not a striker - it's something else"

The Mirror reporting it is Llorente
Would actually make sense kind of... Wouldn't expect to be a starter, provides the physical and aerial presence up front if we need it as our current strikers are all short, but is great at holding up play like Van Gaal likes his strikers to do. Also would only be a short term option until Rooney is done as a starting striker and we replace him as the main man up front.

How about Embolo from Basle? Don't think we've been linked in the press. Young and looks a real prospect.

I've suggested him as well. He'd be great. Martial is another of that age group.

If we were to sign Llorente, then I can't see a future for Fellaini. Llorente could basically offer us everything Fellaini does.

The idea that that feckwit david 'disco' mcdonnell, who covers arsenal, would know who the 'surprise' striker is, is just ridiculous. He may as well have just said it is messi...he'd get more clicks

I would like someone who can at least compete for Rooney's place and push him into performing for fear of being dropped. Not a simple back up in case of injury.

Let's not get our knickers in a twist until we know something for sure. It's the Mirror reporting it - how many times have they been right about anything?

He hasn't really been in good form for a while now, though, has he? He sat out most of his last season with Bilbao and has been in and out of the side with Juve. Could make sense as a short term signing, I guess.

Fellaini plays deeper and arrives late though.

I am not sure his hold up play would be that good in the PL tbh. Not that it is that great anyway plus he is getting slower year by year.

Rooney is the captain and offers more then your average striker in terms of his work rate and all that so it's highly unlikely that Van Gaal will sign somebody to displace Rooney. Besides, Van Gaal said that the only player apart from the goalkeeper who always plays is the captain.

Nothing is more likely to result in Wayne cruising through the season in mediocre mode - like last season

Llorente and cillessen, our potential signings are going downhill pretty quickly.

This is my big fear for the upcoming season:( I hope Rooney proves me wrong...

Wouldn't say that... Who exactly did he have competing with him in 09/10 or 11/12? He scored 34 goals both years. With Rooney, he just needs to be the focal point of the attack and stay up top as a poacher basically, not have him move around the pitch, go deeper to try and influence play or anything like that. That hurts his game more then any sort of complacency he might get.

Well, Fellaini isn't going to start as a defensive midfielder, even though he likes the position. His only way into the starting XI is as a #10 or when Rooney is injured up front.

Llorente and cillessen, our potential signings are going downhill pretty quickly.

Then just remember the press knows nothing. Besides Cillessen isn't that bad.

I think bringing in someone in that age group would make sense. I don't see the logic in spending big on a striker when we have Rooney and it looks like we will be playing with one striker. We saw last season how difficult it can be when you trying to spread game time out between a number of high profile players.

If we are talking to Juve we should be all about Morata, not Llorente.

Where's your goddamn link, want to click on your article and read it! I'm sure your claims are as substantiated as the Llorente calls!

It's just a feeling. LVG only said striker's position, not striker. Reus could easily play up front and has the quality to play for us as well as the wow factor his signature would bring. Plus we haven't been linked with him this summer. #believe #marcopolo

Makes sense, Dwazza von Sherlocksville.

There's no way Juventus would let Llorente, Tevez and Vidal go in one transfer window. Their fans would revolt.

In a separate thought, I'd be gutted if we brought Welbeck back from Arsenal. That's one we haven't been linked with yet.

Álvaro Moratta hopefully. Looks like Juve have signed a few forwards this summer so perhaps he'd be available for the right fee. Herrera, Mata & Ramos/De Gea need Spanish friends.

We'll be aiming high Muller, Benzema, Ronaldo, maybe Kane but if they don't come off there'll be a "value" alternative that doesn't cost a fortune and willing to spend time on the bench but can play a bit, works hard, holds up the ball and score goals; Llorente and Austin are the two that come to mind, maybe even Gomez...

How about Draxler? Seems that Bild are reporting his departure is imminent. Could be to Juventus of course but we could sneak in and snatch him away from them, he can play across the front 3 and would add something different to the team.

They have also bought Mandzukic and Dybala. Tevez wanted to go home so no major issue there. And Llorente has not been very good for them....Mandzukic is an upgrade. They might buy Draxler too. I'd be ok if we are going big for Morata. Would rather see Wilson given a big role than buy Llorente.

I would be shocked if its llorente. we could use a target man but not such an immobile one!
