MOTD has convinced me there's an appeal to be made against a three-match ban. I never thought in my lifetime I'd say that about MOTD and a United player.

I'm not being soft, I just know what the refs and the FA are like.

I don't think it was violent conduct, I just think the head and neck are completely out of the question as to where a ref will send you off for touching, regardless of what you do. More cyncism than being soft.
I can agree that if the ref thought he was grabbing his neck that should be a red - in any situation not just ours.

But with the proper view it's clear he never did that, he just grabbed his shirt.

It's a yellow at worst, but VAR has purposely showed the worst angle with the most 'intent' slowed down. I don't blame the ref, I blame VAR.

There does seem to be some potential impetus that VAR needs to occasionally come up with differences in order to prove its worth.

But if any kind of background thinking like that if that has affected this, they've gone off mission by showing only the single angle.

If our refs could get over the fact that they're not always right and actually use VAR as intended then it'd be great but it just feels like they've paid lip service to it being available and told the VAR officials never to question things.

Works in other countries and at international tournaments but sure as hell won't work here because our officials are pricks.

Who the feck hires this guy as a pundit? He makes Souness look sane.

The hearsay around TalkSport is that each host is told to give controversial views just to get social media traction...this take from Gabby was a bit to obvious really.

Awful channel, they could do so much better, but why try when its all about views.

Like you said it's to be controversial it's been like that for years and got worse. Talkshite I call it. I listen most mornings and drive time home. And mostly it's crap. The issues are biased presenters etc, what you don't here is the Liverpool bashing like UTD had for years when Ole was in charge .

No red. VAR took 1 action in the mele they could have looked at more, VAR shouldn't have got involved at all once the ref gives out 2 Yellows get on with the game.
Like ETH said VAR doesn't look at the Elbow at palace on Martinez, and the same when Carrol decides to break Eriksens ankle.
FA has never given imo UTD any breaks look back at the bans suspension etc they've given players in the past. Pointless appealing they don't give a shit.

100%

Worst is that whenever a player is getting abuse online or booed they are the first to call it out of order...but there own channel fuelling the hate 24/7 is completely unrelated. :wenger:

Gabby and the guy from Spurs, could both give their views from the side of an average pro (genuinely joking aside) I be far more interested in hearing them talk about how they coped with countless bad results and inadequate performances. But nah! sod that society needs more click bait and ranting.

He had him by the collar.

ESPN FC should do phone ins.

Burley managed to blame Bruno for the whole thing and in the process said he was a pain in the backside who thinks he's a 200m pound player, but is really just doing ok.
He was saying that about Antony. Not Bruno.

It’s really winding me up.

What VAR did wasn’t present the referee with evidence that he committed a red card offence, they carefully selected and actually edited footage that gave the referee no choice but to send him off.

It shouldn’t be VAR’s job to cut and splice and present a case for a red card like that.
The moment he was called to review, I knew exactly which replay he was going to get. It’s funny how they make a heavily scrutinized decision, albeit not incorrect, and atone for it, they make us pay the price. I only wonder for how much longer, because it seems to me that we have paid with dividends already.

Even worse regarding this incident, is how the media have reacted calling for the electric chair. But I say let them come, this builds team unity, feck em all.GGMU

"I got a great idea. I think someone is an idiot but instead of ignoring it, I'll do what they want and retweet his video so that it gets more views!".

If the F.A decide to extend the ban to 4 games he'd miss the carabao cup final so I don't see the club taking the risk

Thinking about this situation I actually think we have a case to appeal in that VAR selectively showed evidence that falsely represented the situation based on the angle.

On those grounds, I think that the referee might not have given a red (with the high bar for overturning) had he seen the footage that was available to us from the other angle, and footage that has since been made available online.

I hardly think that making this case would be deemed a frivolous appeal, which is something they started applying when Rio got sent off for slapping someone and then stopped doing right after that situation, and in our case it was clearly designed to make him able to feature in a game against City.

Edit: Thinking about it even more, I think that we have a pretty solid case for appeal. I'm assuming that Marriner will have put in his match report that he sent Casemiro off based on video evidence showing Casemiro grabbing Hughes by the neck and choking him. Now that we can prove that no such thing occured, then the grounds for dismissal are false and manufactured by a single VAR angle and should therefore not apply.

No. He was holding his collar of his shirt the whole time. The moment and angle the VAR showed the ref made it look like Casemiro was choking him. If you're making ref go and look at it, feckin show him the whole thing.
Kinda looked like that to me too, but it's done and dusted i guess.

Very likely if they ask him imo. He seems like a quite decent guy. He didn't fake it or cause a scene when Casemiro put his hands on his collar. Many other players would have. They even hugged and laughed afterward.

And everyone will know and say he's a liar and a cnut if he doesn't tell the obvious truth.

Yeah that was strangely calm and patient by Hughes. Even if it was just the collar/shirt/neckbone whatever, it's still bit of an uncomfortable area for someone to be holding both his hands around.

He would have been well within his right to flippantly brush his arms off, which may have incinerated things but instead he looks beagled eyed ahead straight into Casemiro's pupils like 'am I really imagining the best DM in the world having both his hands around my neck...?!'

The referees have to be blamed! It’s due to their incompetence the situation was escalated. After Schlupp took out Anthony, stared at him cold blooded and walked away like thug, the referee and the lineman did nothing. It was at least a yellow card and worthy of red card because it is actually a violent conduct.

Agree on that, seemed like they weren't concerned at all that our player could have got hurt.

hopefully now ETH has spoken publicly they'll get their act together.

Misheard him then.

Guys a miserable moron, who hasn't a fecking clue but just loves hating on Utd at every opportunity.Really needs to just get over that assist he gave in the FA cup.

1. The linesman signalled the foul IMMEDIATELY.
2. The ref gave Schlupp a yellow card.
3. The refs (VAR + on-field ref) gave Casemiro a deserved, in my opinion, red card.

My main problem with the refereeing performance yesterday is that Ayew should've been sent off too. Beyond that, not much else the refs could've done.

The mistake was the referees and VARs not Casemiro’s. It’s not something we should just accept, it’s not right.
I don't think there's any mistake when you have someone's thumbs on your voicebox  if we try and appeal that he's going to get a 4 game ban instead of 3 and miss the final.

People are just upset because they've seen it's not violent (or pinning all their hopes on one angle as if the other is a lie, rather than using both), but ignoring that to the rules that's not actually important.

Yeah. I don’t remember the lineman flagged the incidence at all. What was he doing at that time? Unbelievable.

The lineman flagged it a threw!
The yellow card was given after all players have finished the fight. The play was to be continued as we took threw before the fight started.
Please rewatch the video.

You are 100% right, why did they look at just one incident? Ayew punched/held Fred's neck and got away with it.

Incidence like that, a competent referee should rush to the site to give warning and/or card!

When you’re done looking up the rules of association football, you should research human anatomy because last time I checked the voice box wasn’t in the shoulders, which is where Case was holding Hughes.

There's no way they can extend it with the other angles that have come out since. They might uphold it but there's no way they can extend it for being a frivolous appeal we have an absolute right to appeal based on the other visual evidence that has come out. Pascal Struijik got a straight red for dangerous play on Harvey Elliot, broke his ankle on a challenge and he needed surgery and the scum appealed, lost the appeal but there wasn't a match added. If they didn't add a match to that there's no way they can add one to this.

There's more than one angle to look at and even the most ardent "yellow carder" acknowledges his thumbs are obviously on the front of his neck

That's not the shoulders.

Look you might be right but it's bang out of order if those feckers at FA consider this frivalous

I don't think we'll appeal. I'm pretty sure even grabbing another player with two hands by the collar is a solid red card offence by the rules and that's the best possible excuse that we can come up with (which relies on you only look at things from one angle)? Take the ban and have him fresh for the cup final imo.
