ETH was right, why was Casemiro the only player sent off? He wasn’t even the only player with their hands around someone’s neck. To me it looks like he was pushing him back and trying to restraint the situation. He clearly picked the wrong part of the body to do so, it looks bad on VAR but afterwards he hugs the player and they are laughing and joking.

I feel it can work in our favour though with him being out there’s less chance of him getting injuries and sabi can get a good run of games and get upto speed for the big games coming up.

It would be incorrect to call the appeal frivolous but it’s best to assume that’s exactly what they would delight in doing.

I reckon the FA won’t take fan videos into account so I think we’ll have to suck up the ban and move on. Pisstake really but the FA won’t make a decision before Wednesday so we can’t afford the three game ban to roll into the final.

Let’s just beat Beheaddie Howe in the final and stick it to the pricks in charge of the game.

Not a red.
Changed my mind after seeing motd with the whole view.

of course it was a red and it was a very good use of VAR unfortunately for us. None of the refs could have seen that and it was rightfully brought back

Not at all a good use. He’s not exactly strangling him, and if they’re going to use VAR like this, they should have sent about 6 players off.

Terrible application of VAR.

Clear red at the time but after seeing the incident from different angles im not sure. Probably more of an orange.

Var segment - Red because he looks like he was strangling hughes.
If you corroborate with other videos from other angles, yellow.
Unfortunately, he was not wise to put himself in such a vulnerable position especially when we know Var hasn't really been kind to us in recent times except the man city match.

Nobody is a cheerleader for the ref. We simply understand that he’s left the ref no choice with the red. If this has happened the other way you’d all be scrambling fir a sending off.

oh and personally I’d have sent several off including Casemiro and Ayew
There was plenty of choice for the ref, he’d already decided to do nothing until faced with a misrepresentation of what actually happened. Of all the things going on in that melee there’s absolutely zero chance of me looking at what actually happened there and expecting a red car for an opposing player. If it happened in isolation then yes but then I wouldn’t be surprised with a yellow because of the fact that he grabbed his collars rather than throat, in fact I’d state now that this would be the most likely outcome.

Also your last line is a massive issue, especially if it had impacted on the result.

I've had an eleven year hiatus from posting on this forum, I've never stopped reading but also never felt the urge to get back to posting, but near enough 40% of you cnuts have driven me to write this (and a few drinks).

You need to cop the feck on, some of the shit I've seen posted on here by supposed fans of this club is a fecking disgrace. After everything Casimero has done for this club since he's joined, transformed our midfield and showed nothing but 100% every time he has been on the pitch, to see how quick you all are to call him out on this stitch up of a VAR decision disgusts me. Do you not for one minute think he deserves our support? I could see in real time that he was doing nothing but try to diffuse this situation, even without the countless replays that have been shown since, and still with all the evidence shown some of you are still not backing down?

Unbelievably disappointing, and exactly the reason I stopped posting to begin with.

You all have no right to call yourselves United fans and deserve none of the success that ETH is going to bring this club.

Feck me and end of rant.
Have to agree with this, and about time we had players ready to fight for each other.

I think this situation gives Howard Webb an ideal opportunity to come out and say "We got it wrong", and advise the disciplinary panel to rescind the red card. However, given the likely backlash from the scousers, et.al., he'll bottle it!

Who the feck hires this guy as a pundit? He makes Souness look sane.

TalkSport's business model is to wind up football fans and get them to call in, United have the biggest fanbase in England so they mostly target us. Don't take the bait.

Find it slightly confusing as to how anyone who watched the game in it's entirety, with the benefit of the replays from all angles, voted for Red in the poll (which was at 40% yesterday).

Then after MOTD where they said it's a very harsh red and shouldn't be a card, the Red numbers have dropped down to 36%, and that's only the people who have bothered to change their opinions in the poll.

Do people have their own opinions anymore? Just because someone on TV says something doesn't make it true. There's been a lot of people saying "you can't put two hands on someone's neck" but not a single person has yet to pull up that law of refereeing to back that claim.

It's a disgraceful sending off, at every single level of football, I don't care who the team is.

Of course it was red.
But I am glad he did that.Everyone and their mom had pissed on us in last decade.
This is double for me. I agree with what you wrote, but at the same time I don’t like how easily they got under our skin. The match was done, their only chance was something like this and we fell in the trap Nunez-style.

This really puts it in a totally different context. Then you can see how VAR selected five seconds of footage that looked bad and replayed it to the ref over and over. There should be full context, from this footage it really looks like Casemiro is just pulling him away from the scrum.

If it's the standard three-game ban, don't apeal it and move on. No need to risk anything. If the FA goes further with the punishment, ETH has every right to go ballistic. The club should have a talk with our ex-legends, too. It's already enough when we have the likes of Souness, Abgonlahor and Merson shitting on us week in and week out and Sky still talking about the derby because of their entanglement with Mansour.

You cannot put your hands around another player's neck and not get a red card in today's football; Roy Keane-like! He saw the red mist!

He had him by the collar.

ESPN FC should do phone ins.

Burley managed to blame Bruno for the whole thing and in the process said he was a pain in the backside who thinks he's a 200m pound player, but is really just doing ok.

MOTD showed a 2nd angle from behind Hughes. Casemiro was pulling Hughes away from the melee and holding him off his collar. His hands weren't even touching his neck.

If we appeal and lose does the ban get extended? I remember that being a thing

Just saw an image Talksport shared showing both Hughes and Casemiro smiling and hugging after the incident. Rescind the 3 match ban ffs

You can't have both hands around a player's neck like that. If it was one of theirs against one of ours we would rightly be calling for a red and I would have been livid if that had not been given had it happened to one of our players
Was going to put similar. TH should bollock the whole team and say dont get involved. We cant afford to lose players through matters off the pitch like this. A bad tackle and a red is bad enough. This stupidness needs stamping out.

Vaguely remember it being abolished but no doubt they would bring it back just for us seen as this sport seems to now be officiated based on whims or which way the wind blows.

Thats not a red, just bad camera angle.
It’s really winding me up.

What VAR did wasn’t present the referee with evidence that he committed a red card offence, they carefully selected and actually edited footage that gave the referee no choice but to send him off.

It shouldn’t be VAR’s job to cut and splice and present a case for a red card like that.

He should be thanking the stars that he was good at football
Was he? My cousin is a Villa fan that went to games regularly and said he should have been a sprinter as he had no football skills.

If it’s seen as a frivolous appeal.

Regardless of the outcome of any appeal, I can’t see how it would be deemed frivolous. I can’t see an extra game being added because there clearly is a debate to be had.

I’d appeal. Really don’t see how an extra game could be added. It’s not a frivolous appeal. It’s a genuine appeal. Now, if they uphold the ban, fine. But don’t see how they could add another one

the only people that think this was a red are the same kind of people who eat avocado on toast for breakfast and think being a vegan is their personality.

I agree although isn’t there a risk that if we appeal it won’t go through before Wednesday so he’d be available for Leeds and (if rejected) miss the next three which would include the cup final?

A good ref would have shown some yellow cards because nothing big happened. If you start giving reds, you cannot stop after one, too much happened in this scene. We some choking and even a slap. And the check was more violent, risky, and unnecessary than anything happened afterwards.

I thought they scrapped the frivolous appeal thing?

They love a grey area when making these rules don’t they
Nothing would surprise me, agreed though appeal worth it
