Sneijder

He's looked alright in the CL, some flashes of his past, but not at a consistent level. Really wanted him in 2010, 3 years on I'm not so keen. But is still an improvement on all of our midfielders I'd say.

Might be an alright stop gap signing if we can't get anyone else right away. Best as an AM though (the position we were originally trying to sign him for?) so not at all what we're looking for.

It's like we're stuck in a loop.

He looked half alright in the CL but we have more pressing issues, deeper to where he players. Comes for a pittance then sure why not.

It could be a disaster, but then again it could spark our season.

Would probably do well in that half season and then turn into a lazy Cnut next season.

I'd take that in fairness

He couldn't possibly be any worse than Fellaini or Cleverly this season. I could see him sitting deepish and spraying some useful passes.

Plus, if we get away from playing the absolute shite that is our current 4-4-2 in every match and dare to put out a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1, I think he'll be very useful.

Whatever, I'm just desperate. Sign him and just pretend it's 2010.

What would be the point of signing him when we will play Rooney and RVP upfront anyway? Also, wasn't Kagawa supposed to be our AMC when we need him.

I liked him and hoped that we will sign him in both summer of 2010 and 2011 but that ship has sailed a long time ago.

He can play there though, and he can probably do a better job than what we've got right now, so it is relevant.

That's not saying much tbf. He hasn't played as a central midfielder in a lot of years, so I am not sure that he can play there (in a good level).

Playing a central attacking midfielder out of position? That doesn't sound like United.

Sign him up. A midfield 3 of #10s, with Kagawa, Fellaini and Sneijder

Because defending is stupid.

What's his shape like at the moment? No point in even contemplating it if he's let himself go (and there were rumours to that effect during the summer).

He has got bags of skills, though. And he could play deepish, as others have said. He's more of a CM than many other AM types - a bit like Iniesta in that sense, I'd say. If we could get him on the cheap, it could be worth a punt. Put it like this: If he's in reasonable shape, he's more than capable of doing what Giggs has done for us - and he should be able to do it much more consistently too.

Far fetched, of course.

Just when you thought this ship had sailed (several times).

I think if he costs around £8 mill and a huge pay cut as is reported, I don't see a problem trying to mend him in for a short fix. With Carrick back near the end of January, it could be a last resort thing if we fail to get anyone more suitable. I would much rather see him being used in CM than Jones or Fellaini there, who aren't CMs anyway.

We were able to play Scholes alongside Carrick so I see no reason why we wouldn't be able to do the same with Sneijder.

would be all for him being signed in january as a stop gap. he seems like the type of player who'd enjoy being brought in almost as a 'savior' and thrive on it.
anytime carrick is out we could at least still field a good midfield and he'd be agood sub to have for the following couple of seasons, certainly a better option than what we presently have.

...............carrick.......sneijder..............

januzaj.............rooney.................kagawa

.....................RVP......................

or in away games...

..................carrick...fellaini....sneijder
........januzaj......................................kagawa...
............................rooney.........................

steady the ship a bit and focus on developing jones at CB which needs to happen

feck off Sneijderman, we don't want a repeat. Go away, your ship has not just sailed. ITS SUNK.

Very injury prone. Hasn't managed to play 30 league games since 07/08 season. Class player nontheless.

Obviously not joining United but can't deny that he is still a classy player, only a luxury player in my opinion.

One thing that wouldn't put me off in a hypothetical situation, is that he isn't as old as a lot of people think. It's just he has been around a while.

If the BS rumours about RVP joining Barca in Jan :nono: are true then he would obviously play in the role behind Rooney, unless Rooney leaves then he will play behind RVP.

If both leave then we are truly fooked.

But then you'll get Kagawa fanbois like Mad Winger constantly moaning that he isn't being played as a #10. You don't want the agony of that do you?

Would be perfect for us IMO.

Would add a bit of experience, bit of a boost in the dressing room with a big name, a buddy for RVP and will tide us over well until the summer when we can look fully at our options.

I thought they hated each other? Or is that just a load of cobblers?

The beef between him and RVP was mentioned as one the reasons the Dutch flopped at Euro 2012. Basic dick measuring contest. They both thought they were better than the other when they upcoming youngsters in the youth teams.

World class players in ego shocker. Is this even true or just paper chat? Either way it wouldn't affect a potential transfer.

The Dutch always fight when with the national team; it would be different if they were teammates.

we all know he cant play in midfield. hes a no 10. so who do bench to accommodate him? Rooney or Kagawa?

Well he's x2 the player Kagawa is so put him on the left. We don't need wingers there all crap. He will create and provide ball retention. Scored to put Juve out today also.
