Sneijder

We don't need him. Herrera has one midfield spot, Carrick (at this moment in time) takes the other, and he wouldn't get a sniff at number 10. We wouldn't buy him and put him on the bench/depth etc, so i can't see why we'd bother.

It's like raising someone's rotten corpse using electric waves.

The smell of fried decomposure is what this deal is.

Wouldn't understand at all if we signed him. He can only play cam for me where we've got Rooney and Mata for that spot, both of whom I think would bring more to the role. Hopefully not a legitimate rumor.

Anyone else happy we didn't sign him 3 or 4 years ago? His career seem to have taken a fall since then, felt like we dodged a bullet.

Interesting comment to make given our performances last two seasons. The ship has sailed but he was exactly what he needed in my opinion. The guy is pure class and would just fit perfectly.

It always annoyed me when people said "he's too old" back then. I mean we would've gotten two good seasons out of him and he still wouldn't have been that old!

He was great when he was at Inter, but now he's too old and not good enough for us, his best match in the Worldcup was against Costa Rica except that in all the matches he has been very below par, and he plays in a midfield 3 on the tip of it with 2 players sitting behind him, we already have soo many players in his position it would be a stupid move to go for him if we do that is.

I think his career would have been different if he remained at the top level though. Imagine he'd have been much better. It's easy to drift of if you're playing in a lesser league.

I thought he put a lot of effort in against Argentina, and if it weren't for the fact we have a few similar players already reckon he would make a good signing at 12 to 16 million.

Great player, i'd be pleased if we went for him, could also be a decent way of balancing the books this summer as I reckon we could get him for less than the quoted figure, sell Rooney for £35 million, get Sneijder for £12 million, would be perfect back up for Mata & takes the headache out of LvG maybe having to drop Rooney, or playing him out position, plus would give more of a chance for Wilson to get some games.

I agree exactly with this .... he looks like a player that is just rusty, not one who has lost his quality. I think we would have helped keep that rust off.

You mean in Turkey? He drifted already before moving there. After winning the CL and losing the World Cup final he didn't really have the motivation anymore, especially not at club level.

Sneijder still looks class to me, obviously not as influential as 4 years ago, but at the right price he would be a great addition.

Oh no I agree with the notion that we was exactly what we needed at the time. But the summer after we wanted him he has frequent injury problems, so we wouldn't have gotten the same Sneijder that we was with Inters treble winning season nor the World Cup runners up. That's what I meant when I stated we kind of dodged a bullet. An assessment totally based on hindsight, as I was hoping as much as anyone he would come during the summer.

Of course, you are correct as well. But as stated above I was speaking on the injuries that made him tail off the form we saw circa 2009-2010. When someone of that age runs into injury trouble its very hard to find form unless they adapt their game like Scholes or Pirlo for instance.

I'm actually glad we didn't get him back in 2010. If we got him we mightn't have ended up getting RVP or Mata.

The injuries weren't the issue, his lifestyle was. He didn't have the motivation or discipline to stay in shape, and completely let himself go during his injuries. His lifestyle caught on with him, he was never a very dedicated hardworking athlete. When he was young that wasn't an issue, but at that age it becomes a problem. It wasn't untill this year that he dedicated himself to get in shape again for the World Cup, the only thing that could still motivate him, especially after van Gaal took his captaincy and completely dropped him from the squad. He was skinnier than he had been in 8 years probably, and I just read that out of all players at the World Cup he covered the most distance in those 6 games. Ofcourse being in shape doesn't mean you regain form immediately, he still lacked that.

Interesting, thanks for that. Lacking of discipline is not something we need here at club like United. So in a way, im still somewhat relieved he didn't sign.
