Sneijder

Should have got him part of the Ronaldo deal tbh. Think unless we get him on a free or something, we would do better spending the money elsewhere.

Yeah, hopefully our manager doesn't think like that.

'I'll take whatever I can get my hands on!'.

With all due respect, I don't think I have ever had the mentality of I'll take whatever I can get my hands on. Sneijder irritated me a couple years back when we attempted to sign him. This 'I want to make even more ridiculous money' to join the club kinda had me in the state of 'you can feck right off'.

Goes without saying now though. We are using an extremely promising CB in midfield (albeit that I love Jones and I honestly think he could become an amazing defensive midfielder) because we have nobody else. This occurs directly in front of us and people decide to say a player like Sneijder is somebody who could not do a job for us? If a CB can play in midfield and make more of a contribution to attack/defence than Cleverley - why can a AM not push back a few feet and play as a CM/AM and do a job for us?

Are we really that special that signing somebody like Ilkay Gundogan is the only alternative? The type of player that we NEVER have bought and more than likely - never will? Get real now and assess the situation. We continuously make an arguement that an older AM can always transition backward into CM when the years roll up. He loses the pace and will primarily focus on pinging balls from deep. We saw Scholes do it and have argued that Rooney can do it in a few years. Why can Sneijder not? Is it really that bad that we get him and he do a serious job for us, as opposed to crying about the lack of control/creativity that we have in the middle of the park?

it's years too late now, and he's not the type we need in a centre midfield 2.

And him and VP hate each other, just for another never gonna happen reason!

Obligatory Sneijder link:

You can't dismiss Van Gaal! Wesley Sneijder WOULD consider Man Utd move this summer
WESLEY SNEIJDER has admitted he would consider joining Manchester United this summer if Louis Van Gaal made him an offer.

Sneijder has worked closely with Van Gaal with the Dutch national team, and says the level of respect he has for the 62-year-old means he couldn't simply dismiss a possible move.

Van Gaal's relationship with Sneijder hasn't always been smooth with the former Bayern Munich man reportedly unhappy with the midfielder's conditioning heading into the World Cup.

And while Sneijder has admitted that Van Gaal can be a tough man to win over, he - like most in the Netherlands - holds his national team boss in high regard.

He said: "In the Netherlands Van Gaal is something like the head teacher of a school.

"Not everyone is lucky enough to get into his good books.

"He trains his players very hard and always expects the highest standards.

"I am happy at Galatasaray, I have established myself at the club and have settled in.

"However, if Van Gaal were make me an offer I would have to at least consider it, nobody from the Netherlands can simply reject Van Gaal."

Manchester United reportedly had an offer or Sneijder turned down last summer but it now remains to be seen whether they revive their interest this summer now Van Gaal has taken charge.

Not that I support this move now, but back in the day when I did it really annoyed me when people said "he's old". He was 28 and we could've had four good seasons out of him. At times he is really under-rated.

Don't think he'll come though.

He's past it, and has been utter wank everytime he plays for oranje this World Cup. His loss he didn't go to United last time, he should either go back to Holland or rot away in Galatassary where he belongs.

He's not coming, confirmed by his agent he's staying in Turkey, no interest from LVG.

Wouldn't be a transfer window without us being linked to him. But no, he's past it, wouldn't take him for half of that.

I actually think he has done a very good job at the WC. I thought he was past it, but he has shown his quality.

Like many have said, if we are going to throw what ever money is necessary to get a star purchase (e.g. Di Maria) then we may be looking at this type of investment to educate the younger midfielders.

If Vidal is slowly dieing a death because of Pogba's probable sale and our other midfield targets not value for money, this may be an option.

He's not really a midfielder who plays deep though, he plays behind the striker for the most part and has played out wide for Galatasaray more than he is in a deeper midfield role. There's no point spending £16m on a 30 year old who would be on £100k+ p/w to play him in a position he doesn't play in. Think there's been 4 or 5 better than him for the Dutch in the WC too, he's not been that good at all aside from a few flashes here and there.

He has been pretty poor this WC.

I assume you only watched him last game vs Costa Rica where he was playing deeper and did very well. Almost seemed rejuvanated in that role compared to playing as the AM earlier where he has been really poor.

Saw a interesting stat btw, that Sneijder so far in the WC has passed to RVP only 4 times.

Seen all the games and would take a different view.

He seems composed on the ball, makes intelligent passes, plays to his strengths (i.e. doesn't try and take on the whole team). His movement has also been very good. Admittedly, he is no there to be a De Jong and may not have been in the team if Strootman was around, but I wouldn't say he has been poor. Also, always seems to be looking for the ball.

I can't say I have witnessed him going missing.

he has zero workrate!

I assumed he'd learnt his lesson when I unfollowed him on Twitter.

Christ, why has this even been bumped? We're not going in for this guy - Van Gaal is too clever for this shizzzle.

Firsty Kuyt and now Sneijder - who next, Van Der Saar?!

That's not how it works though, is it? We have coaches for that. I very much doubt any of our first teamers actively coach the younger players. They might mentor them from time to time, but as far as teaching them how to play on a training pitch goes, I'd say it doesn't.

And if it does, Sneijder wouldn't be the sort to do that.

Only noticed in the Costa Rica game but Robben and Kuyt werent exchanging to many passes to each other.

I think Scholes and Giggs might disagree. Many teams buy experienced players with a few years left to help bring the best out of younger players.

Well, fine, but if Scholes and Giggs have been doing this in recent years, why is Cleverley not very good?

Facetious, yes. Accurate, probably.

Oh, and Sneijder is 30, hardly old, and not the sort who would take responsibility for that sort of thing.

I've gone cold on him over the last few seasons, would have been a great signing 3 years ago, now not so much.
Yeah, he aint so sexy these days but we sell Fellaini and bring him in? He just turned 30. I worry about his attitude though. He doesnt really rely on pace or those sort of things that go with age.
