Sneijder to Galatasaray?

feck

This is like some ex-crush turning up again, who blew you out the first time and probably wouldn't be worth it the second time around when you're doing well in life and not too bothered.

However, there's always that question at the back of your mind: 'Could it work?'

If we signed him probably have more stars in our team than we did even with Ronaldo and further back Beckham.

Inter must be kicking themselves here, should have move him on in 2011.

Shouldn't have been such a greedy cnut in 2011.

"I don't want to talk. Something will come out in the afternoon," Sneijder said upon leaving the meeting with his agent. "I've always been well here."

If he is successful in leaving, I would have him on a free.

Would have been good if I actually put his name down. Matt Barker, @matthew_barker

With Kagawa here I don't know where we will fit him. He's better player than Kagawa though.

Anyway if he really comes here, could this mean that Sneijder will play as attacking midfielder while Kagawa will be transforrmed into a winger, and Nani will leave?

Free-lance journo who is quite reputable - "Wesley Sneijder: "I have no intention of signing & agreeing to #Inter's conditions.""

Given their current issues and state of the squad, can see chavski or Arsenal really going for him.

I'd like him at United, but he is not what we need most. However, SAFs mantra was often 'we should compete for any player who will improve our squad and worry about the implications later'.

Wesley fits that bill. Esp on a v low transfer fee.

Also, if Kagawa could be converted into a wide player to replace Nani (assuming he is leaving in January), then it might work out.

Or, we could do the thing that doesn't involve shoving a player we already have in to a different position and just buy an actual wide player to replace Nani.

Ys but then we would have Kagawa and Sneijder for that position, with Rooney playing there sometimes too. I think that this could be a problem and I think that Kagawa while not exactly a winger can play in the left side.

An announcement is expected later today after Wesley Sneijder and his agent met with Italian giants Inter.

Talks took place at Palazzo Durini on Monday after the player was frozen out of the side’s first team plans following a request to cut his €6m a year salary.

“I don’t really have the desire to speak,” the creative midfielder stated as he left the club’s HQ in Milan. “Something will be released later this afternoon.

“I’ve always been happy at Inter…”

It is thought that the Beneamata will consider selling the former Real Madrid man in January or at the end of the season.

Inter director Marco Branca, meanwhile, insisted he was happy with the events of the meeting.

“We are satisfied with how it went,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “It went well for Sneijder and for Inter. We’ll have to meet up again though.”

Haha I agree, I meant more along the lines of just not buying Sneijder and buying a winger instead if Nani is to leave.

To be fair, there aren't may available wingers who are that good.

And Sneijder is quality, if we can get him in cheap it would be a good deal for us.

Also as someone said above, it will stop transfer speculations that we're going to sign him.

My only concern is that the chap I sit next to at work is an Italian die hard Inter Fan.

He says Sneijder is in terrible form, but concedes that may be down to motivational issues given his current circumstance.

And the fact he's only played 3 times in the league this season. If we can get him on a free, or relatively cheap there's no question for me that he'd offer us something. However, if he still wants ridiculous wages then it's a different story.

:lol: prob because his form is terrible!

So, RVP as striker with Sneijder, Rooney and Kagawa behind him; not too shabby offensively. What about Hernandez, Valencia, Welbeck etc?

What about them? Have you seen the midfield squad depth of Mourinho's Madrid, or even Mancini's city?!

Those players will have to up their game. Competition for places is excellent business. The forum has moaned about midfield for 2 solid years.

A world class one becomes available (albeit horribly out of form) and we worry about the knock on effect?

Anyway, in the immediate short term, its highly likely the squad will lose Giggs, Scholes and Nani, so should not be too much of a problem.

To be fair Mourinho's team never has more depth than United. If you look at Madrid, attacking wise they only have Callehon, Higuain and Kaka as subs. In defense they have only 7 players.

Anyway, if Nani goes I don't see a problem to accomodate Sneijder.

Do you honestly think any of them can get into starting line-up of Barcelona, Real, Bayern, Dortmund, City or even Chelsea?

Brilliant. "Let's sign him so people will stop talking about whether we're going to sign him or not. That'll show them!"

Ehm, let's see;
Welbeck <-- Torres - sorry, that's just the truth.
Hernandez < ----- Torres - think of Hernandez for Chelsea with Mata, Oscar, etc behind him...
Valencia could play as a wide forward, winger, right wingback for all the sides that you mention - except for Barca. Would you not substitute Arbeloa for Valencia?

I haven't yet seen enough of Dortmund to say for sure. One thing I can say is that I would rather have Valencia over Robben whom I think is massively overrated - lost a yard or two of pace also. People seem to forget how good Valencia was last season just because of a poor autumn this year.

We have amazing squad depth in attack; sure, Sneijder is a midfielder, but an attacking one at that, probably tracks back less than RVP or Welbeck.

If he signs for United I will feel like the signing of RVP, a signing that certainly had me think twice, so it will probably be a good idea, even if it's not the one that I see as most important. He can play wide forward though, can't he?

not a bad 'only'!!!

Not more depth that us though which was your original point. And all of them would be even more lower in pecking order in our team. Madrid have a better first 11 than us, but no chance that they will have more depth than us.

I'm not going to comment whether I think this transfer will be good or not. The money aspect of it is not my business and I shouldn't care about it but the mind can't help but take it into accounts.

The last Dutchman we bought I was a little skeptical about. Not his quality but what that would add to the team. I was pleasantly surprised as how good that turned out so who's to say this Dutchman won't do the same? I haven't been following him so I can't really say.

I don't think the diamond has much future. Just too narrow. That said I can see a scenario in which we play an attacking midfielder on the left and let him cut in (Kagawa/Sneijder) and play a more orthodox winger on the right to provide much needed width (Valencia/Nani).

I hate to use that old "barcelona did it" cliche, but they did with Villa on the left and Pedro on the right. Formations definitely don't need to be symmetrical.

So in terms of signing Sneijder, i think he could fit in well as essentially we would have 3 players (Rooney, Kagawa and Sneijder) competing for two spots (Behind the striker and inside left), all of whom can play both roles and easily interchange. The only loser in this scenario is Ashley Young. And I don't know anyone who has a problem with that.
