Smashley Young

As i said earlier,

Young could be at 10 and Nani at 8. Nani could be demanding 15 while we're prepared to pay 12. That'd cause an impasse even though we're willing to give him more than young.

It could be, though it is very unlikely that this is the case. Unless Nani is wanting to be payed as much as Rooney and RVP.

Just imagine for one second that Fergie actually thought Young was at least as good as Valencia and possibly a bit better. Then his transfer makes perfect sense in every respect. The only problem is obviously he hasn't been, and isn't, that good.

Sometimes the answer that ticks all the boxes is probably the most likely.

I doubt Young is at anywhere close to Rooney or RVP so there'd be a wide gap between them where Nani perhaps sees his rightful slot?

Anyways, debating hypotheticals is very tedious. We'l see when the truth comes out though seeing as SAF's in charge, i wouldnt wait for it.

Perhaps. In any case, as i said above, debating hypotheticals here mate. No point.

Don't be sure about it. It's not that Fergie hasn't never overpayed for players.

Never double the worth of a £15 million player though. Especially not when they had a year left on their contract and would be coming in for high wages.

The strangest part about the Young signing is not that we wanted him but that we were willing to pay so much for him with his deal running in. Where was the "value" as we like to say?

Err, Dimitar Berbatov.

SAF loves buying English and has no problem paying over the odds to get them.

Jones is another one. Despite his potential, 17M looked very much to mee. Chances are that he will be a 30M player but there is a huge risk there.

Well which is it? Chances are that he will be a £30 milion player or its a huge risk. Make your mind up time.

There is a high probability that he won't be a 30M player too, hard to know. He has the potential, but you never know if he will realize it or not.

Somewhere between 15-20M. Same as costed Young who shouldn't have cost mroe than 10M IMO.

I don't think its reasonable to suggest he was worth less than £20 million. He didnt suit us and didnt have a relationship with our best players, but he came with a good reputation and was much in demand.

Immense potential, lots of interest from other clubs (infact we bought him a year earlier than we planned due to Liverpool's major interest), young, English and in a position where we have players that will need replacing soon. £17 million was justified.

Young:
No potential and has already peaked, not a great deal of interest from other clubs, have younger players who are better in the same position, and was in the final year of contract with no intention of signing on. £18 million was a ridiculous sum.

How much cost Young in first place. I think that rumours said 17M but it wasn't official. That means that he cost 13M less than 30M. So it wasn't exactly half of the price. With thosse numbers, Berbatov who cost 31M should have cost 18M which to me sounds completely realistic. He was good and with a good reputation, but his best record in PL were 15 goals which isn't that much.

If "chances are he'll be a £30 million player" then the probability is that £17 million was a good deal.

If "There is a high probability that he won't be a 30M player" then its entirely the opposite.

It was a ridiculous sum indeed, and I am not comparing those two signings, just said that it was another signing which I felt we overpayed.

Young was in his peak, a full international for England and regarded as one of the best wingers in England (together with Valencia, Nani and Bale).

'Chances are', but that doesn't mean that he is or he'll ever be.

Ando was regarded as the most talented player of his generation, but here we are and he is still in pecking order after Scholes.

I dont think you understand what that statement suggests.

If "chances are" something then the probability is in its favour. You are disagreeing with yourself when you say theres a high chance of the opposite happening. Its one or the other.

Actually thats another point Joemo brings up. Where was all the other interest in Young? Thats usually why you might end up paying over the odds but it was all quiet.

Wasn't City interested on him? Not really sure but I think that City were.

Liverpool definitely wanted him. Should have let him go there. Young and Downing on either wing would have been tremendously shite.

Such an annoying waste of money. If we wanted a squad player we should have spent £5-10 million on a winger like we did with Park who more than proved his worth over the years. He may be versatile and able to whip in a decent free kick (apparently) but it's all irrelevant as he is a very average footballer. I remember at the time I said we should have bought Mata who would have been a far better buy for only £6 million more.

Still think we might sell Young within the next couple of seasons. We'd probably still get 10million for him even in 12-18months.

eh depends. i bet an average manager like moyes would love young and fergie will be too stubborn to sell him.

young is our current berbatov...we're stuck with the cnut until he's down to his last year/last 6months.

He'll be here and will contribute to silverware. He is a very good player. Just like Nani and Valencia though he needs to find some form quick to ensure #20 plus another Big Ears !!!

What I dont understand in regards to Young is why we persist playing him on the left? He's been at the club now for what 18 months? And apart from the very few times he's cut in on his right foot and curled one in to the top corner he's been utter utter shite out there so here's a crazy idea he's right footed right? Why not play him on the fecking right wing then? It's not like Valencia or Nani are in good enough form to warrant starting there!!

Right now we're crying out for quality on the left hand side so much so I actually said to myself during the Norwich game that we need to buy Bale!! :o

Some people giving him shit in the matchday thread, when was the last time he dived?

Is it bad form or is young just not cut out for united?
If he dosnt step it up this season I wouldnt mind seeing him go if it helps us bring in a quality cm
