Freak
Born a freak always a freak.
He's fast becoming into a very pointless winger. Constantly passing backwards, not taking his man on. I don't even know what he offers to the team.

How the feck can you regain form by sitting on the bench?...

Richter's Park comparison is very apt.

Can we praise him for bringing defensive solidity on the left? At least Evra is not getting exposed like a porn star this season.
He needs to do better offensively and should make better efforts then just passing it backwards to the midfield but his defensive contribution is hugely unappreciated here.
He's at Manchester United. That kind of shite isn't enough. He's fecking average, and a flat track bully. Genuinely angers me watching him play for us
I think the reason many are underwhelmed by the idea of Young, or that he's underrated, is because as a winger he's shown very few signs of development since his move to Villa. He was an excellent set piece taker, a threat carrying the ball at pace, two-footed and had a good delivery in open play from the moment he signed for them.
He added no real subtlety, awareness or consistency to his game since his first full season at Villa, which to this day is still his most productive (in both goals and assists) also. To show so few signs of progression after 3 and a half years at a young, developing team that was progressing itself will cause people to ask questions.
He still plays on instinct, he's shown so little progression in his decision-making it has to be a worry. Wingers will always have that side of their game to them, granted, but it shouldn't be such a major part of their game if they are playing at a top club where you will have much more possession and have many more options than the simple beat your man and whip it in.
That said, I think he's shown signs of progression and a lot more subtlety to his game since being moved centrally. It may just have been because Villa played with such a basic (but effective) style under O'Neill that Young didn't have to expand his game or wasn't given the opportunities to, his game was around being a ball-carrier at pace for quick breakaways and providing a constant source of delivery from wide areas for a very one-dimensional target men. It's hard to play more sophisticated football with Carew, Heskey and the like.
Yes, River Runs Red was getting a lot of stick for being a nay sayer, though it is still a bit early to judge whether the signing has been a good one or not IMO.
Everyone still thought we would sign a central midfielder that Summer...
... except noodle.
What do you think is different? Was it that this time last year you thought Fletcher would be coming back? To me things seem very similar. You had Scholes retired then, whereas now we might have him, but either way I am loathe to rely on him. Cleverley has been injured but I have more confidence in his ability to emerge and make a mark than I did 12 months ago, so in that sense you could even say the need is less pressing this year. Anderson's problems have been pretty consistent over a longer period that the last year.
I cant see much reason to believe this summer is a very different scenario to last summer. They seem equally pressing scenarios to me, but given SAF didnt seem to see the urgency last summer, I worry he wont this summer either.
Well any negativity was getting lots of stick at the time. noodle totally slated the signing at the time and he was pretty much gang raped by everyone for doing so, but a lot of what he said then is pretty much what everyone is saying now.
I can't really remember if I thought it was a good signing or not when he got him, my first comment was positive, but I do definitely remember being underwhelmed, though I think that was slightly to do with the fact that we looked like we'd be (muppet mode) getting Sanchez at first.
I do remember thinking it was a lot of cash, but at the same time we were getting another good "rotation" option on our wings, and that it shouldn't stop us buying the midfielder we so needed.
Sadly, nearly a year and a half later, with him seemingly a first choice option over my favourite player, and not in my eyes good enough to be a first choice option, as well as the fact that we never signed a fecking central midfielder, I do think it was a totally "meh" signing and not worth the money/wages paid at all.
As far as I recall in terms of Young, I thought he was a perfectly good player but the wrong signing. Always nice to have competition for places, but more important to have the strongest first XI you can before you worry about that, and I wanted to see... well, we all know what I, most of us, wanted to see.
But yeah, by the summer I was already resigned to that not happening.
We're not going to get rid of Young. We are stuck with him for the next 4 years. No other club would pay his salary and he has no incentive to leave.
We should set Geoff Shreeves on him:
GS: "Ashley, have you looked at RedCafe recently?"
AY: "What is RedCafe?"
GS: "Its the leading Manchester United online fans forum."
AY: "No, I havent seen it. Im not really into computers."
GS: "They hate you."
AY: "Who?"
GS: "United fans. They all hate you. They dont think you are good enough, they think you are a diver and they want you sold and Nani restored to first choice."
AY: "I, er, I..."
GS: "How does it feel to not have the confidence of your own fans, Ashley? It must be hard to get out of bed in the morning, isnt it Ashley? I bet every time you look at your bank balance it is a reminder of how utterly you have failed to live up to expectations, isnt it?"
AY: [Weeping]
GS: "Ashley, thank you."
Yeah, pretty much. If we're paying him 100k a month, he's never going to leave.
Which does raise the question of how often do we not renew a player's contract because they're just not very good? Not because they're ageing, or because they've fallen out with Fergie, or because they want to move elsewhere, but just because they're no good? I suppose normally in that situation we sell them before the contract runs down (a la Berbatov).
And we'll definitely recoup the £17m we paid Villa for him (with a year left on his contract).
... won't we?
