Smashley Young

It isn't a dive as such, he exaggerated the fall. It was a stone wall penalty.

A stone wall penalty?

He moved AWAY from the ball, the second defender would have easily cleared it before Young could have got another touch - he moved intentionally into Clarke. He stood on the defenders foot too FFS.

It's an absolute joke and you know it.

an embarrassing dive from Young who looked for the contact but a penalty all the same

wish he would cut it out - he doesnt need to be so theatrical

Made a meal out of it but it was a penalty, hope he cuts it out but he's getting a bad reputation. We need to support him.

Actually we will never know if this was a foul or not because he fell down as shot by a rifle as soon as their foots 'touched'. He could have easily continued running. He wasn't wrestled down of his feet clipped so that it could possibly warrant a foul. If this would have happened somewhere in the midfield he wouldn't have fell because there simply isn't any reason to do so.

Mud sticks. He'll be remembered for all the wrong reasons now.

If he cuts it out it would be extremely unreasonable to be just remembered for incidents like these, obviously the dickheads will bring it up though. Whatever else he is, he is still a very good winger. Will Bale be remembered as a diver? Or a very good winger that didn't mind taking a tumble?

peno's have being given for the same and less aswell though. this wouldnt be half as bad had young just fell down naturally, rather than doing the splits mid-air followed by a worm like motion as he hit the ground.

I heavily criticised him for the disgusting dive against QPR but it was a definite pen today. The way he's done down is extremely theatrical and he forces the second point of contact (left leg) but the foul is the first contact on the right foot.

It was a penalty. End of story... Well done Ashley Young.

I'm glad we have a player with the nuts to take advantage. Every other big side has at least one.

I only saw the one replay but it looked to me like young easily could have moved his left leg out of the way, which would have taken him past his man. That he chose instead to ensure there was contact and then fling himself to the ground says it all really. I thought this was worse than the dzeko one by far.

How would he have easily continued running? Have you ever played sports? Running in a direction at a pace, changing it suddenly 90° and has you turn there's something in the way. Now he can't jump over it because his right foot isn't on the ground and his body is already turning to his right so jumping will only make him collide with the defender. Stopping doesn't make sense. Why should he lose the ball because the defender is in the way and he has fooled him? He does what everyone else would do, follows the ball in the direction he put it. Defender might have tried to pull out but he was too late in doing so.

Young definitely attacked the defender in a way where he was putting him in an awkward situation because the defender wasn't really ready and he took his opportunity and got the penalty. I don't think it was a full on dive. I think he tried to get a penalty, that is if the defender's leg was still going to be there. If there wouldn't have been a leg I don't think we would have seen a dive with no contact.

His right foot steps on the defenders, he forced the contact.

We can't give sticks to Suarez for diving. it will make us hypocrite. :(

Nonsense! It was a dive.

That cheating p***k shouldn't be playing for us.

Very disappointing that he's making this a talking point in what has otherwise been a pleasing first season at the club, and one where he could have been going into Euro 2012 with England as a fan favourite rather than public enemy.

Why will he be remembered for diving? He goes down easily is he the only one? The Premier League is watched worldwide and I can guarantee you most fans across the globe won't be talking about this. They see people like Di Maria and Robben pull this stuff all the time and nobody talks about them principally for their gamesmanship because they're damn good players.

Frankly outside the Premier League nobody gives a monkeys about conning the ref (remember Red Nev's article?) Did Ashley play for the penalty? Yeah. Did he make sure he made contact with the Villa player to buy the peno? Yeah. Is he the only one, even in the Premier League doing this? No. So whatever. If you're playing a game of cards and everyone else has cards up their sleeves and you know it but you keep playing by the rules you're a fool. Either you get up from the table or you do what you gotta do to compete.

By and large Young's been brilliant today a real threat down that left flank and all that's missing is the goal to go with his all around play. Hopefully that comes second half.

It wasn't a penalty.

And I made the thread on "can it be a foul without contact"

He is a disgrace, the amount of double standards on this forum is ridiculous. He needs a clip round the fecking ear...it is pathetic
