Smashley Young

Hillerious bumps. It was a foul, he took advantage an helped us gain an early and important lead. Get over it.

I like Young so I'm not gonna join in with those calling him a "disgrace" or calling for him to be sold in the summer but that is one terrible dive. No excuse for it.

Why will he be remembered for diving? He goes down easily is he the only one? The Premier League is watched worldwide and I can guarantee you most fans across the globe won't be talking about this. They see people like Di Maria and Robben pull this stuff all the time and nobody talks about them principally for their gamesmanship because they're damn good players.

Frankly outside the Premier League nobody gives a monkeys about conning the ref (remember Red Nev's article?) Did Ashley play for the penalty? Yeah. Did he make sure he made contact with the Villa player to buy the peno? Yeah. Is he the only one, even in the Premier League doing this? No. So whatever. If you're playing a game of cards and everyone else has cards up their sleeves and you know it but you keep playing by the rules you're a fool. Either you get up from the table or you do what you gotta do to compete.

By and large Young's been brilliant today a real threat down that left flank and all that's missing is the goal to go with his all around play. Hopefully that comes second half.

I was responding to someone who said he may be remembered/tainted as a diver.

Clearly a dive. Anyone whose seen it properly amd says otherwise is clouded by a big doze of the bias pill. It's extremely embarrassing but I wouldn't go so far as wanting him out. That's just silly. I just hope over time we stamp it out of him.

Idiots. I rather win on a dive from Ashley 1-0, than dropping two points today. I don't give a feck what the other fans thinks.

Get a grip.

For feck sake. I will never get the uproar over diving. If he went in 2 footed for a horrible tackle I doubt we would see the same reaction.

It's amazing. If he loses his balance but tries to stay on his feet, we don't get shit for our player being impeded. The refs never give anything for staying on your feet.

You get fouled, go to ground, get a penalty.

You get fouled, stay on your feet, you get nothing.

...Fall over and get the fecking penalty.

He will get fouled in the box in a very important game and not get a penalty because of his reputation if he carries on diving.

Fantastic movement and solid ball control, today.

Not clear penalty but contact was made.

feck off, haters. ;)

The contact on his right and left boots would most probably have bought him down anyway, so why he threw himself to the floor like that is beyond me. Saying that, I don't know why people are angry or surprised with seeing it anymore. Everyone exaggerates fouls, and defenders are probably the worst at falling over when there's nowhere to go. But that's not really interesting enough.

We can't give sticks to Suarez for diving. it will make us hypocrite. :(

I don't.

Every team has divers or players that go down at every opportunity, especially in the penalty box, it is a sad feature of the modern game. English players were the last to adopt the mentality but it is now prevalent in the Premier League and by English players. It is up to the authorities to do something about it but certain players have adopted the attitude of 'if you can't beat them, join them'.

I don't think anything with contact can truly be called a dive.

What it is, is an over theatrical reaction, he is looking for the contact and as soon as he feels it, he hurls himself over. I really don't like seeing that from one of our players. If he went over naturally then fair enough, but not like that. Not as bad as the QPR decision anyway.

He goes down very easily, there is minimal contact but there is contact and he takes advantage of that situation to win a penalty. Other players do it as well, I'd prefer he didn't go down so theatrically but he is not the only player in the PL who does it.

I don't like to see it but your gonna see a feckload more of it in the upcoming Euro's, it may actually pay for England to have that in their locker.

How would he have easily continued running? Have you ever played sports? Running in a direction at a pace, changing it suddenly 90° and has you turn there's something in the way. Now he can't jump over it because his right foot isn't on the ground and his body is already turning to his right so jumping will only make him collide with the defender. Stopping doesn't make sense. Why should he lose the ball because the defender is in the way and he has fooled him? He does what everyone else would do, follows the ball in the direction he put it. Defender might have tried to pull out but he was too late in doing so.

I played football for 25 years. Look at the replay, Young is not interested in the ball, he is interested in drawing a foul! Look at his left leg- as soon as there is contact with his right leg he simply could have moved his left leg forward in the running direction on continued. He might have slightly stumbled but that's all. Look at his left leg, it's like paralyzed, he doesn't move it along anymore because at that moment he already has no intention of running any further!

That's the matter closed then.

That wasn't meant to be my credentials just my feelings on it.

It wouldn't have knocked Young off his feet, so what would it have done?

I honestly think he avoided being contacted at all. He could have kept going without being touched, he wasn't being impeded.

His first or second contact in the game, and he dives. And people are wondering why I don't like YOung.

That's not what this was tho. This was running into the box and plan a being to draw a foul and go down. Running at a player, waiting for him to attempt a tackle and then ensuring you collide with his outstretched leg, before collapsing. That is shameless diving and an embarrassment.

I completely agree, except in this case. Had Ashley Young stayed up right, the "tackle" wouldn't have affected him at all

I'd rather he hadn't done this, because I think we were already looking like we were too much for Villa - now we have to put up with the outrage for a few days.
Players gain nothing from staying on their feet, I can totally understand why they instinctively highlight occasions when they're impeded.

I reckon Ashleys penalty winning skills would be much appreciated if he displays them for England in the summer.

What the feck? Is it wrong to despise thuggery AND simulation/diving? Most of us prefer that they don't do both.

And? The ref could have not given the penalty and booked Young. Divers all have their cards called eventually anyway, look at Suarez he gets far less decisions now as his reputation precedes him. Bale dives just as much but no one bleats on about how he's a disgrace, people need to chill out. The refs are to blame because they're the ones who allow themselves to be conned.

ffs, you make it like he intended to go down as soon as he beat the first man to come into the penalty area  That is bullshit on your part. The thing is he done it on instinct, that half a second were you decide what to do. He is a bit of a diver and it felt natural for him to go down rather than try to take on a shot or lay it off.

Blaming the ref for Young diving? I've heard it all now.
