Smashley Young

What are the chances that Moyes would 'punish' him (be it on wages or games)? If he doesn't do anything his words about how players should cut the diving would look a bit stupid, right?

I'm sure you also noticed when a tackle had to be made and he just didn't have the will to put his foot in.
Because he's a complete and utter pussy in every way. That's the worst thing about him, he shies away from tackles, he's afraid to go in for 50/50 challenges and he generally acts like a fecking fanny on the football pitch. That's not what a Utd player should be about. I've seen a few mentions of Ronaldo and his shameless diving at times in here as a comparison (and to be fair, it was shameless), but fecking hell, at least he showed grit and ambition, at least he was willing to try take the game to the team and wasn't afraid to be aggressive when he needed to be. Young is just happy to sit there, being a pussy, putting in one or two good crosses a game amidst a sea of backward passes and wasteful dribbles. He's not a Utd player, one of SAF's worst buys, quite frankly.

I think the most effective way to cut out the diving would be from the players themselves. When Ronaldo dived back when he was at United, the players kicked him a lot. Young needs a few (strong) kicks up his arse during training.

If SAF and Moyes publicly speaking about it isn't enough then nothing is.

He was good at Villa though. Isn't he on the list of highest PL assists since 2007 or something? Just wasn't one of those players who could make the step up to a big club.

I'm a bit surprised he continues to do this in spite of the media reaction he receives from it

Eh, as a Barca fan how can you be surprised? Some of the antics your players get up to would make even Young embarassed

Ronaldo dived in training? I don't believe that.

But it's not as if the Barcelona media are vilifying them for it though.

Thing is though... why shouldn't he dive? It clearly works for him... thanks largely to incompetant ref'ing and a shit system where-by the punishment for doing it is minor in comparison to the rewards. Sure, he gets shit from the press and the media, but I imagine that feck-load of cash the club play him make him forget about those complaints pretty quickly.

It's all well and good Fergie and Moyes saying "they'll have a word with him" to the press... because clearly they don't, largely because they probably don't care all that much. Ultimately, they just want to win games, and Young's antics seemingly help us do that every now and then... besides, I imagine they have far bigger things to worry about then Young taking a tumble every time he plays football (I imagine one of these large problems is 'How do I convince someone to buy Ashley Young?').

Clearly, neither have had a strong word with him... nor have they issued some ultimatum of "do that again and you won't be playing for 10 games' or whatever else, because otherwise he wouldn't do it (unless he really is that pre-disposed to taking a dive) ... thus, he's going to keep on doing it until either a) it finally becomes counter-productive or b) the threat of some real, tangible punishment is there...

Not at all. Believe me.. The only people who should be embarrassed are the ref and UEFA.

Yes. We take pride in one of our players cheating his way to a victory (that never was).

How about just not playing him ahead of the likes of Nani/Januzaj.

That would be great. He is tarnishing this club with his shit performances, his cowardly antics and his pathetic cheating. Every time he goes down you know it's a dive, but then he does weigh about 8 stone so it's no wonder he falls like a sack of shit every time a player touches him.

Contact in the area means feck all.

This is what gets me. I've heard a few people trying to convince everyone that it was a foul and merited a penalty. None of them would even contemplate saying similar thing if that decision had gone against us.

I've witnessed Young's diving resume this season alone, he should be embarrassed

 No shit. I'm not saying he shouldn't be.

My point is that you shouldn't be at all surprised that people dive given the shit Barca get up to, your cheating is on another level.

I wish he (and every other player) would stop diving. It's just cheating, whatever arguments people try to make about "contact" or "the ref gave it, who cares?"

That said, I'd have celebrated had it gone in, so I suppose that makes me a hypocrite.

What infuriates me about him is that sometimes he gets himself into fantastic positions and wriggles past players, but with the sole, pre-conceived intention of going down. From my angle it looked a clear pen but there was absolutely no need to throw his arms up and fly through the air. If he'd gone down naturally from the contact it wouldn't be an issue.

I got that point, you missed mine. Glass houses, señor, glass houses

What's really annoying is when he doesn't go in for a 50/50. It shows how much of a coward he is. Last night, he ducked out of a 50/50 challenge and Real Sociedad almost scored on the counter.

If he'd gone down naturally from that level of contact it'd be a big issue as he'd have severe balance problems.

The problem with young is that not only is a diver, he's a talentless diver, so there no reason for us to tolerate him like saurez and co, it's like dating an ugly woman with a shit personality, you lose either way.

I have to say, I'm one of those who hates that a lot of fouls that don't cause a player to go to ground aren't given, which leads to players being pulled back, or whatever, and throwing themselves to the ground. This wasn't one of those obviously. I was just good old fashioned cheating, which we've seen from him before.

This thread is just a constant stream of hate and disdain.

That's got nothing to do with the point he made.

Why does it not?

He says he is surprised Young continues to dive after media scrutiny. Yet he supports a team which continues to dive after even larger scrutiny, over a longer period.

Of course its relevant. A Barca fan shouldn't be surprised that players dive, because they know first hand that it goes on.
