We do, pretty much everyone hates what Young does.If were going to vilify Suarez (rightfully so), then we have to do the same with Ashley Young because there are similarities there.

He's a cnut.
I'll say it again, I have no particular love for Young. But Gordon Strachan on ITV did the slow-mo analysis and said it was a penalty . There was contact from the defender, which Young didn't stick his leg into the defender to find.
I can't believe that was defended in any way earlier in the thread.

I know if Arsenal were to be awarded that penalty on Sunday we'd all be in uproar here, that's absolute fact.
If a defender clips an attacker in the box then he's asking for trouble. If Smalling did that, and a Sociedad player took advantage, then I'd be screaming about Smalling, not the "injustice".I disagree with Gordon Strachan. Surely the only way you can say that is a penalty is if literally any contact whatsoever in football is a foul?

But that doesn't mean it's a penalty; it just means the defender has been silly for allowing the defender to pretend there was a foul.
Don't forget some of us will be wondering if Ashley Young didn't go to ground why he didn't if he happened to take a shot or play a misplaced pass. Also I really hate how everyone who said it was justice when the penalty was missed are now annoyed that we have drew the game. I'm sorry but we had a chance there and they were preaching and getting on their high horses about how it was an "injustice" to Sociadad, well I'm sorry but they would have done the exact same thing to us and we'd all be in an uproar. We could have won the game had Robin got the ball into the net, and this would all have been water under the bridge.
It's a penalty it the referee says its a penalty. It's the defenders fault for clipping the player, not the ball, and allowing a situation to be decided upon the whim of a ref.But that doesn't mean it's a penalty; it just means the defender has been silly for allowing the defender to pretend there was a foul.
This doesn't even make any sense. If people are annoyed because your lot drew the game, they would be annoyed that Hernandez and Van Persie missed golden opportunities. It was justice that the penalty was missed. If disliking diving is "getting on a high horse" then what has the game come to?
It was so obvious he'd miss, its weird how sometimes you get a strong feeling about an outcome and the feeling is usually right. It was a horrendous dive, even my dad said WTF? and he doesn't give two shits about footie.
Good thing we missed the peno, we didn't deserve it at all. Had we scored I wouldn't mind, sure, but I wasn't too fussed we missed it.
Eboue would sure as hell want RVP to miss the goal that wins us the european cup. Hes an arsenal fan.It wasn't justice, its a fake and embarrassed sense of that because people don't like diving. Ashley young played for the foul, he got it, doesn't make him a cnut. I can't for one minute think everyone wanted RVP to miss, don't forget the penalty WAS a golden opportunity that you talk about. I don't like how people would rather draw and have to play the final game potentially and not get through to Europe than win. What if that was the final, and its a nervy nil-nil and its getting close to the end, and Ashley Young won the penalty by the exact same way. Would you say then that we don't deserve the goal and you would rather RVP to miss and have some kind of poetic justice happen so that football remains this squeaky clean, red-tinted glasses version of the 50s/80s. I would say no one would want him to miss, and would be complaining because we missed and lose the game potentially.
Look right above your post! Some people were happy RVP missed! It wasn't justice, its a fake and embarrassed sense of that because people don't like diving. He didn't "play for the foul", he dove. Cheating is not cool. It's not out of misplaced nostalgia, it's that cheating is not cool.
Diving is playing for the foul. Its not cheating either, as Gary Neville said. Its taking advantage of someone else's poor defending.
There was contact. You're implying there wasn't?He didn't "play for the foul", he dove. Cheating is not cool. It's not out of misplaced nostalgia, it's that cheating is not cool.
Its lazy defending, you don't go attempting to foul someone or stick a leg out because you can't beat them.
It's a penalty it the referee says its a penalty. It's the defenders fault for clipping the player, not the ball, and allowing a situation to be decided upon the whim of a ref.
We can scream about referees. I certainly did after the Nani incident. But you have to minimise the times you leave yourself at the mercy of a refs whim.
I can't believe that was defended in any way earlier in the thread.
It was lazy defending, and that's it. You shouldn't get punished for shit defending if it doesn't impede anyone.
Technically speaking, yeah it was a penalty and the ref's decision is one that mattered. By any other definition and variation of common sense though, it wasn't. I mean, it would turn football into such an absurd sport if the rest of football became consistent with that decision.
I'm not even laying into the ref so much as I am concerned that people think this wasn't a ludicrous incident. If a player's leg hair was to brush the attacker, causing that player to go cartwheeling out of the stadium, would it be an acceptable situation for a foul to be given?
This is hardly new. You've always had the diviest players from RVN, Ronaldo, Rooney and now Young. I'd almost have to wonder if there is a culture of cheating at your club.

Pires. That was the worst dive ever.I thought Arsenal fans would be annoyed at Young because he stole his patented dive (stick your leg out and kick the bloke to win a foul) from good ol' Bobby Pires... I mean, he could at least be original.
