Smashley Young

I fecking hate the way he sticks his arse into the fullback, puts his foot on the ball and rolls his foot over it. This is all done facing our goal of course. I'd love to punch him up the arse.

He was not excellent but equally he wasn't poor either.

I think if you took the name off the back of his shirt I think most would say he was fine tonight... you know, if nobody knew what he looked like.

At least he tried to cross with his left foot a few times even if he did over hit them that turn back onto his right foot and curl it out of play at the far post cross annoys me more than anything

I can't wait until he is gone, as I am sick of reading his every move being criticised. He is an ok squad player who for me looked pretty good in his first season with us. Since then he has blown hot and cold

If he left I don't think we would miss him a great deal but at same time his role in the squad and some of his performances are unfairly judged.

He is very much Gibson part 2, soon to be replaced by Fellaini as the sides hated player. I always feel the urge to defend them, because the slaggings are over the top by a long way.

So even an okay performance irks you lot? Gods sake, you are pathetic sometimes with your hatred of certain players.

He was perfectly ok today and as usual the muppets here slate him. It makes the criticism after a poor game meaningless when he gets as much criticism after a decent game.

Pretty much how I feel.

I get that people don't rate him and don't see him as United quality. But I feel it's the diving and horrible Euro 2012 are the main reasons why people are quick to call him shit. Young has had a long, productive career and realistically is not even close to a shit player at all. I understand hyperbole in the match day threads and all but if you think he is shit then you don't watch enough football.

It's not his performance levels that piss me off (yes, I want them better) but it's the simple fact that he is a soft cock. The minimum I expect from a player is that he puts his body on the line for his mates and his club, he just doesn't do that when things get tough.

His crossing annoys me. Look at Zaha tonight; he crosses for a player. Young just seems to put the ball into a space where he thinks a team mate should be - which often seems to be the opposite flank. That being said, Young did fine tonight. But "fine" is not good enough in a game like that if he should be considered a starter - which he hopefully isn't anymore.

His crossing and set pieces were poor, plain and simple. Amazing because those were his main qualities when we signed him. He did put in a very decent performance aside from that

Boo players when you pay your money and go to the ground - Bad
Come on the internet & call players who put in effort, "Shit!" - Good

Just trying to find the boundaries.
Effort is not one of Young's strong points. He will hide from a challenge whenever possible.

Really? That is not something I thought could be levelled at him. If you watch tonights game, Zaha often gave up on his defensive duties, but Young usually bust a gut going back. (Something I thought he usually did)
His crossing was poor, as was his shooting, but these things come from not playing many games.
I think lack of effort is a valid reason to criticise, but lack of ability is not always in the player's control.

He will go down and limp off when the going gets tough. Everything is easy at home to teams like Norwich when your team is crusing, that's when Young can show his qualities. Put him on the big stage and things don't go to plan, he wants none of it.

Nothing to do with ability, it's hunger and desire, he goes into challenges not wanting to get hurt rather than wanting to win the ball.

He was okay, but he does the same thing over and over again, every game. He's incredibly boring to watch and shouldn't have ever been at united. Just not at our level. He always does the same run down the wing, cuts inside onto his right foot and hopes someone gets on the end of his cross. He crosses with his left about twice a game.

Boo players when you pay your money and go to the ground - Bad, damages team morale and harms the players self confidence even more when a whole stadium boos you.
Come on the internet & call players who put in effort, "Shit!" - Fine, who cares what people say online. If players can't take criticism off the internet, they should be at this level.

Just trying to find the boundaries.
Fixed.

You fixed that, but don't you think that the way players are discussed colours the view of the match-goer?
Why feel the need to slag off players, regardless of the performance? (Not aimed at you directly)
We have some whipping-boys on here, and sometimes it's OTT.
If a limited player puts in the effort, that is better than a more accomplished player winging it, IMHO.

To be fair he played shite 7 to 8 out of 10 times, and ok in other 2 to 3 matches.

The amount of his crosses/set-pieces that goes over everyone's heads and out for a goal kick is insane.

One of those I was very pleased about signing. Really thought he had it in him to push on. A shame but not good enough for us IMO. Rather see his place given to one of our promising youngsters.

I'd say that's a pretty harsh criticism to throw at him based on yesterdays game... I specifically remember he was very close to picking out Rooney and Zaha at points last night (amongst others) and his crosses were only slightly over hit.

As above, he was very close to picking out people last night, they were only slightly over-hit.

He doesn't look up he just pings the ball in at the back post. He quite clearly has got the accuracy because he hits the exact same spot time and time again.

He was ok last night but that's it. Still I think that he is surpluss to requirements and with the emergence of Januzaj and the signing of Zaha we don't need him at all. Nani, Januzaj, Kagawa, Welbeck and Valencia should always start above him while Giggs and Zaha can also do a job here so I would like to see him gone. Some ok performances between shit ones doesn't justify his place here IMO, especially considering that we have a lot of players who can play in his position and Zaha who won't develop if he doesn't get the chance to play.
