Smashley Young

Just to summarize people, clubs shouldn't sell players, only sign them, because all footballers are, after all, human beings. And human beings have feelings. They should only be made to feel happy, not sad.

Perhaps ghaliboy could set up his own 'human rights for footballers' campaign.

feck it, just sell everyone. Finance this, wage that, gamble on the readiness of youngsters. Young is a human being and obviously has an influence on the club in some way that he is useful to the squad. Hence him still being there, this is real life and not a game where consequences mean nothing and players can be thrown away like .txt documents into the recycling bin.

Spelling it out on detail there is absolutely no chance that Moyes would have offloaded 'main' squad players (loosely) to roll the dice on the possibility of Januzaj being ready to take his chance. I think that point is well made by the lack of time that Zaha has received so far.

You're talking garbage here.

He isnt even a likeable player like Ando which makes some here want to keep him.

Young is obviously a better and more useful player than some give him credit for. He isn't a terrible footballer and it is not incomprehensible that he is still in United's squad (as some are more or less suggesting). But at the moment we have six players competing for two wide spots. And out of those six Young is clearly the one to go. If there was no Zaha and no Kagawa in our squad, say, Young would be a fair enough squad player. As it stands, he's surplus to requirements and unless he starts playing significantly better he should indeed be moved on. Then again, things change fast in football. Zaha may go on loan in January, for instance.

EDIT We have seven, actually - counting Danny as an option out wide.

What the hell?

if Young never plays a match again for United there is no reason to feel sorry for him, he's on a massive fecking wage.

We are a business. Young's wages are far too high for what he is actually delivering on the pitch. He will hopefully be offloaded in the summer. Consequences = No more Ashley Young, squad spot opens up, wage bill cleared. Happy days.

We've got another armchair financial expert working for Manchester United.

What has his wage got to do with anything?... He's a football player playing for Manchester United. Just because a bunch of Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime on a forum who think they know about football scream 'HES SHITEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE' at every opportunity doesn't mean he's written off as a lost cause 'lets slash the wage bill and move on'. It's not FM. It's real life. Where the manager of the football team isn't sitting in front of a computer clicking 'continue' all day. He's actually managing the real live players with consequences far outweighing that of what your average 'fan' thinks.

Thankfully this isn't football manager and it is in fact real life. Where the players are real people and every decision has a consequence.

I have to admit he looks hampered still by the ankle injury he suffered. I'd not be surprised if he's even near 80% let alone 100%.

Hmm, sometimes you come out with some random stuff mate.

In the real world if employee's don't meet expected standards or they're no longer needed they can be and are moved on or their contracts not renewed. Young is fortunate that he's already very well off and if he does leave will no doubt be given some incentive from us to do so, not to mention leave for another lucrative salary. If he has any particularly close connections to Manchester etc then he's easily capable of taking a pay cut to stay at a more local club, just because we signed him doesn't mean we have to keep him forever, likewise if he wanted out he could ask to leave.

As it is personally I don't think he's good enough to be a first choice player and whilst I think he's good enough to be a squad player I would rather the games he might play be given to other players like zaha, januzaj, welbeck, lingaard etc, there's plenty of players there who can develop to be squad players and in hopefully some if not all cases eventual first teamers. We don't need him imo.

On his side I'm sure he would like to be playing as much as he can to boost his chances of making the world cup plus his own general satisfaction.

Pretty much why 96% of the moaning fanbase needs to just get over the fact that he's going to keep playing. In the world of football you get managed according to performances by the manager himself. Not the whinging fans.

They run the business and no amount of moaning about his wage (not you, subsequent discussion) is going to change the fact that he's going to get an opportunity to come good. Running to the previous point you made about 'just getting rid of him before the season started' that would have left us with Zaha who just joined the club, a Nani who was trying to re-establish himself in the team and Valencia who is tailing off from his post injury boom. Selling Young would have been shooting ourselves in the foot. Rolling the dice on Januzaj has come up trumps but there is no way a new manager could have foreseen that without having a backup plan.

Personally I think it's hilarious how much the fans hate Young. Makes me smile everytime I see this thread and the dirge in it. Get used to it peoples, you're not the manager. Moyes is and he'll be selecting him throughout the season for whatever reason. If he doesn't and you get your way then thats okay as well, I'm sure he'll have another good reason for that. Other than 'feck it, sell him, shit player, totally rubbish, big wage, overpriced' because honestly, who cares about that. It effects the fans absolutely nil.

I am not having a go at you in general. But this whole 'Januzaj is the Messi-ah' is a bit much.

Stop being so bloody hysterical - moaning about Ashley Young is one of the few things United fans can unanimously agree upon because he's shite and a huge fanny.

How long does he have left on his contract?

The issue you might have is getting rid of him on those wages. My own club has struggled in this way.

He could very well take a pay cut, who knows. I wouldn't be surprised if we offer him another new contract.

Thanks for that. I was talking about 40k but a maths lesson is always appreciated.

Oh I thought we were just throwing random wages and fractions out there. Didn't know your complete out of the arse speculation had any relevance. Apologies.

Why should we do that though?

Oh forgot, because he is a human being and has emotions, right?

Why should we do that though?

Oh right, I read that wrong. Sorry.

I dunno - he's not really that bad. Senior member of the squad now in age (not experience). Can't be offloaded for 'cheap'. Still a bit useful. Showing this much faith in him, Moyes has plans for him obviously. Still doesn't look 100% fit mind.

Average footballer, but hey, it might hurt his feelings if United tell him he's surplus to requirements. In football you always have to put the well-being of completely average players first...

Seems unlikely. No club will take him on more than £40k a week. He's on £120k now. That's a 2/3rds cut.
You must have great connections in the game to know how much a player earns and what every team in the world is willing to spend on a player. I'm envious.

Well his wage was widely reported.

People don't think he's good enough for United. His level is really 6th and lower. No club at that level have players regularly on more than £40k a week. It's speculative but based on some facts.

To summarise he did well in his first season, some great deliveries and whipped in goals, afterwards he has persisted with a diving culture bringing negative attention on him and the club. He seems now to only offer the one dimensional effort of whipping in crosses into the general "danger area" and they rarely find one of our players, tbh I think he should have worked on developing his game to offer more variety. If all he has to offer is crossing that's fine if they are creating goals but they are not. He is getting on in age too, not sure about him tbh if he can be a worthy contributor, he just does not seem to have developed any since he came here.

He's annoyingly underrated in here. People who throw tantrums everytime he appears in the starting lineup, need to calm to the feck down. He's a decent player.

That being said, I don't think he's first XI material. It's all a matter of ambition, really. He's not our first choice, nor is he young(no pun intended). So people naturally want to see the likes of Januzaj or Zaha ahead of him, when Nani/Valencia/Kagawa isn't playing. And that's fair enough. But don't fecking lynch a player for starting, just because he's not our best option. You make it sound like he's a total disaster.

Nah, it's everyone else that is the shit poster, garbage. etc etc  Come on, man!

I don't think many have issues with him being a part of the squad. They have an issue with him being soft, collecting a massive check at the end of the week that he doesn't deserve and the the club spent a massive transfer fee to get him (not his fault but you do have to live up to the pressure).

As a squad player, he is a very good option, however, we can get what he offers either from the reserves or for around 4-5 million and 20 000 a week rather than what he earns and what he cost.

Honestly, the 'stealing a living at this level' line really is a case of 'well don't watch then'. Because they must get just as outraged with the hundreds of players in the league on good money who are cloggers. If it upsets people that one guy is getting paid from an entity not hardwired to their lives whatsoever then I don't really think football is the sport to be supporting. Especially in the state that it is in now.

You have a point but with Young, it's an extreme case compared to the rest of the squad and his contract effects other players future at the club.
