Smashley Young

I'd like to see Giggs' pass completion stat for today. I'm not one who throws a hissy fit every time he's on the team sheet, but it was clear early on that it wasn't working for him today. You probably have a point about Welbeck.

Anyway my only point is that it wasn't a diabolical performance. He'll be slaughtered because of the mistake, but going forward it was probably better than the average performance last season.

Are people serious? He's not played at all during pre season and had 20 minutes or so against Chelsea before this. Calm down.

It's not as if what we saw from him today was anything new. We were used to it throughout a lot of last season, albeit he was hardly terrible in every game like he was today.

The thing is I probably rate Young higher than most on this forum, even after some of his frustrating performances previously. But today he just frustrated me a lot - you're right the performance probably wasn't diabolical. He just kept a lot of things simple.

But one thing that really annoyed me was that when he is in possession, he seems to play the game at walking pace, like he suddenly loses all his pace and the ability to shift quickly.

He's the master of the unnecessary Cruyff turn.

I think some got carried away with that little cameo against Chelsea, but I was surprised Moyes did. Apart from being indirectly responsible for the goal, he was weak in possession and fairly static. I also get the feeling he has lost pace or certainly acceleration with all the niggling injuries he has had at the club.

Why are people even thinking he had a good cameo in the Chelsea game? His substitution for Valencia was the reason we lost control of the game. Hazard did feck all when Valencia was marking him out of the game and Cole didn't dare to join in the attack for fear of having Valencia free to make counters.

Its fecking hilarious isnt it. Cos Young came on, ran once and put in a decent cross, maybe it's cos the expectancy is so low that even doing the most basic thing required of a winger made people think Young was sublime.

He gives me the impression that he is getting smaller every game. Today he looked like a midget.

He's just not upto the standards we should be aiming for. For a team that utilise the wings more than most our options out wide are incredibly mediocre. Pisses me off seeing the likes of Spurs signing Lemala when we have this turd starting the majority of games.

I'm still to figure out the reason we signed him. I originally thought he was bought to improve our set pieces, and yet he's not being given set piece duties until recently, where his set piece have gone to shit. He's clearly not anywhere near the level of play that Valencia and Nani has proved capable of hitting while being at a similar age as them. And he's clearly not bought for his experience in European competitions as we've younger players who've played more than him in Europe.

We need to give up on Young and Giggs. It's time to give Kagawa and some of the younger players a chance. I would prefer Zaha, Kagawa, and even Januzaj and Lingard over these two at this point.

He's the only player in the team I'd happily sell right now.

I've realised he is hunched back...maybe that is impacting him being a footballer.

He's fecking dogshit. Thought he might be able to step up from Villa. Liked his attitude when he was there but he's copying Downing at the moment. Understand the reasons for getting him at the time but we overpaid and he's been shite. Villa got nearly £40m for him and Downing!

Looked decent when he first came in, and i had hopes he could step up a level. Unfortunately he's gone backwards.

What's even more bizarre is that he is regularly being picked by England despite the fact England have about 30 wide players better than him.

And what's with the constant half baked cryuff turn....that is so 70's.

He was pile of dog shit today and should not be allowed anywhere near OT.

You'd think he's been touching the ball boys from some of the language on here. Ridiculous how so many hate one of our own players, he's really not that bad ffs.

He was shit today but he wasn't the only one. I still hope he'll recreate the form he had before his series of injuries

A nothing player. When even Brwned says a United player is not up to much you have to sit up amd take notice.

18 million pounds, 1 year left on his contract. Wowzah...

He was shit today. He has been shit for ages.

Fans are annoyed because we wasted £18m on him, when we could have used that money on better players. Not many of them wanted him in the first place. So it was his job to prove us wrong. Apart from his first two games, he has done nothing of note.

It's not just today. It's not just that he's no good. He's cowardly and doesn't try hard enough on the pitch. He's grand against shit teams but any kind of quality against him and he disappears.

Why did Moyes pick him? Anyone with half a football brain would know he's average. The only fact is Moyes is a negative coach so he values Young decent ability in tracking over his offensive skills.

Probably because he put in 2 superb crosses that almost led to goals.

What I also didnt get. Why was he on the left and Giggs on the right?

I think those of us that think Young is an utterly mediocre player (at least I do) are more often than not shot down, just because he is a United player. Total, total shit player...the most amusing thing is that those that are far superior to him (Valencia, Nani, Zaha) did not start the game today.

He really, really is, pound for pound (in terms of value for money) the worse player I've seen pull on a United shirt. And not necessarily in terms of ability. This is a guy who plays a lot (unlike Bebe etc) and continually puts in rubbish performances. His lack of movement, lack of effort, lack of quality, lack of any sort of penetration, inability to beat a man, inability to give his team mates an option, inability to pick out a half decent set piece, can't score goals, can't create goals, can't dribble, can't pass can't shoot, just what the feck is this guy doing to justify playing for Manchester United. He's going out there week in week out, cheating a career at our club and it makes me sick. And he doesn't even have any redeeming qualities, he's a coward and a diver on top of all that. Have you ever seen a player play for United with so little confidence is his own ability? If he had any self respect he'd request a transfer.

And whats this "form before injuries", he's played well three times in his United career, West Brom, Arsenal and then away to Spurs. What sort of United winger goes 17 months without a goal?
And then he fecking gets picked for England, just what the feck is going on ?

He was pointless today, again. Always does the same thing, and when that's not working he plays backwards. Not good enough really.

he has no confidence and doesn't look like doing anything to regain it

I said the same thing in the match thread and got shite for it. Absolutely out of his depth here

You won't get any criticism from me. For the match today, I blame Moyes mostly for being so goddamn negative. In terms of Young, he is quite simply an appalling player. Why shouldn't he get slated? Valencia played right back today and was still better than Young. I'm amazed at those who actually think Young is a good player.

He kills momentum when he cuts into his right, but to give him credit - the balls he put into the box today were excellent IMO.
