Smashley Young

Don't really ever want to see him starting for us again tbh. Would rather us use Zaha or Januzaj because at least they might create a chance or two. Good luck with that 30 goals + assists prediction Cider.

What is this all about?

Was horrible today, and gave away the corner which Liverpool scored from. Valencia created more from right back than Young from the wing. Has he done anything for United since that Arsenal game a couple hundred years ago?

Seriously, include him in the Everton deal for Fellaini and Baines.

Horrible mistake that led to the goal. I thought he did alright after that to be honest and there are others I'd have subbed off before him, though you'd have to say Valencia and Nani were both better when they came on.

He was better than Giggs and Welbeck, in fairness, but that's not saying much.

Was horrible today. Couldn't escape his marker, couldn't deliver a good cross or corner.

His movement off the ball was terrible. Did not receive the ball in space at all. Every time he received the ball, he would have his back facing his marker and he always ends up out-muscled and losing the ball.

Awful. Would rather see Zaha given a chance.

Spends most the game moving 5 yards forward, 10 yards backward and then passing it to the full-back. I thought he started his United career really well but now it's as if he's scared to be playing.

Very poor today. I'm willing to give him a chance this season but he's extremely frustrating. His first touch and close control are almost non-existent and whenever he gets the ball he'll inevitably lose it. Nani wasn't fully match fit and looked better than Young was throughout the whole match.

When playing on the left he has one trick - cut inside on to his better foot and cross, he's a fullbacks dream.

Get rid. Couldn't take on a player to save his life.

Passes it backwards or to the side, time and time again.

He's useless. Plain and simple.

He was invisible for most of the game, apart from his mistake leading to their goal.

He had a few good crosses, but they were all a result of him somehow ending up wide open on the left. Don't think he beat his man once.

I thought he was good in the 2nd half for 15-20 minutes before being subbed off

Invisible in the first half though.

Others like who? He deserved to be subbed off ASAP today.

Worst big money signing I can remember the club making in recent memory, never had the quality desired to play for our club

Unbelievably predictable. Liverpool simply knew to show him inside and then position to defend the expected deep cross. When Nani came on he was far more effective because Nani was able to switch it up and do different things. Young was like a robot: same thing over and over again with the same outcome.

He looked better on the right when he came on against Chelsea, he's just way too predictable when he plays from the left and not nearly gifted enough to be so one dimensional.

Really do not know what he brings to the squad. He really looks out of his depth on the field everytime he goes on. Even more so for United. Plays his passes blind. Plays with his head down. Can't beat and go past his man. For someone who is suppose to be speedy...he slows our game down a lot. Our play breaks down almost everytime the ball goes to him. Goes to ground easily.. And it's not like he redeems himself with good recovery and defensive play or with his endeavours. I'd take almost anybody over him anytime.

Giggs, Welbeck. Young and Evra down the left was the best thing about our attacking play in the first half, not that that's high praise.

Giggs was the only one close to being a playmaker for us on the pitch given the absence of Kagawa and Rooney. He had a bad game, but not worse than Young IMO. With Giggs, he could always create a chance despite the rubbish balls he plays.

Welbecks workrate alone meant he was useful. He definitely had a bigger impact than Young IMO. Young didn't really contribute to the play down the left though, it was mostly Evra making the runs forward.

What annoys me is whenever he gets the ball he always seems to dance around with the ball and either manages to lose it, or somehow end up with his back to goal and makes a simple back/sideways pass.

He absolutely never seems to beat a player and in general slows down our attacks. This is the issue I've seen with him for 2 years and he hasn't improved yet.

I don't think giving away a goal makes him invisible, although I guess he wish he was after that performance.

We're blaming Young for the goal?

He was shit but let's not start inventing things. The goal was Rio's fault.

I think some got carried away with that little cameo against Chelsea, but I was surprised Moyes did. Apart from being indirectly responsible for the goal, he was weak in possession and fairly static. I also get the feeling he has lost pace or certainly acceleration with all the niggling injuries he has had at the club.

Eh? Young was the one who gave the corner away by dribbling with the ball in his own box.

I'd like to see Giggs' pass completion stat for today. I'm not one who throws a hissy fit every time he's on the team sheet, but it was clear early on that it wasn't working for him today. You probably have a point about Welbeck.

Anyway my only point is that it wasn't a diabolical performance. He'll be slaughtered because of the mistake, but going forward it was probably better than the average performance last season.

Are people serious? He's not played at all during pre season and had 20 minutes or so against Chelsea before this. Calm down.
