Smashley Young

Definitely could do with offloading him this summer, hopefully get 7 or 8 mil for him. Not good enough for us

thought he played well.

white text. he's fecking wank, pea-headed, close control lacking sack of shit.

He seems short on confidence, like the other winger we have out there today. What was our greatest weapon last season seems to be our weakest link these days.

He's not bad for a squad player but he starts way to many games for me (not just today I know he's got one eye on the Chelsea game). We also paid well over the top for him, almost 20m considering he only had 12 months left on his contract is far to much.

I like him. He's a good player who works hard even when playing poorly. He's not world class or anything, but worth a squad place.

Never rated him. Thought he may prove me wrong after his first couple of months but since then he's been average.

The last piece of play summed him up - good pace when he's forced to use it, far too hesitant when in a good position and not on the same wavelength as the rest of our attackers. Very frustrating player.

The thing that annoys me so much about him is that 9 times out of ten when he gets the ball he'll either move away from goal or turn back towards our goal. He just won't take a chance and do something himself, and cause of that you get situations where kagawa and rvp are having too move out to the flanks to give him a pass. Buttner might not be the best player but going forward he always shows a willingness to have a go and he usually gets in some great positions cause of it.

Having only watched the second half I thought he did reasonably well. Tidy in possession mostly, defended well. He could have done better with the pass at the end but he broke well and delivered the ball to Van Persie at least.

If the other attacking player on the other flank is playing well then Young's quite a good option in that you know he'll work hard, won't give the ball away easy and is capable of producing something now and again. But when the other guy isn't particularly creative or in good form and you need Young to actually shoulder some of the creative side I think his deficiencies show.

I don't think he truly thinks he's United quality. His set-pieces were great before he came here and he'd back himself to come on to his right and shoot, we saw some of that last season but this season we've seen none of that. He's a good player but he just doesn't seem to have that belief.

atleast he doesn't have delusions of grandeur then.

Beyond woeful today.

He has absolutely no consistency about his game at all.

He plays too much to be counted as a squad player as others have said, I think it's time to move him on. He might fetch 10 million from a club like West Ham and we get rid of his +100k contract.

ah forgot about west ham....perfect place to dump him. probably would be happy going back down south as well.

He was miles better than Valencia who did absolutely nothing today again. Tracked back well, helped out his fullback and at least offered a threat on his side

As I said when we signed him: he's an upgrade on Ji-Sung Park on the left wing, as a squad player. That's it.

And he does that job well.

He was fine today, and protected Buttner well.

Well he has still played better than Kagawa this season, who seems to be rated higher by most. Young has won quite a few matches for us actually.

What threat did he offer? Threatening to pass it out of play? He did that a few times tbf.

Terrible performance. The only decent moment came at the end and even then he delayed the pass.

Out of interest, is there a bigger diver in the league?

well okay, maybe not in terms of match winners this season compared to last but I still think his crossing ability and penetration on the wings has influenced a few matches for us this year

edit: ^

In the last 18 months if the only thing you can say about a performance is "he was better than Valencia" then you know they've been shit.
