Smashley Young

With Welbeck playing more on the left this season, Kagawa back and capable of playing there and Zaha seemingly set to join, does anybody else think that Ashley Young will be a surprise sale at the end of the season? Or that his time is limited?

Why would we sell him? That would be truly baffling.

He's English for starters and he has shown that he wears the shirt under his persona. The opinion that is generally shared that he's a step below 'United quality' works in his favor in this case as he's never been short of hunger and fight.

These type of players are very valuable as squad players.

Can't see him going anywhere at the end of this season. Other than him we have what Nani and Valencia that are actual wingers. Sure Kagawa/welbeck/rooney can all play out there if needed, but that doesn't make them proper wingers. This Zaha bloke may displace him eventually, but we are not about to sell a player who has show what he can do for united with a kid from the lower leagues straight away. Young will be here next season, no guarantees about the one after that though

so we set our standards to scousers?

I don't know about you, but I would quite like to defend our "shifting shite out trophy" that we won last year.

What? the fact that he'd be starting every week for them and with everybody fit and in-form he's a 3rd choice winger here, only proves how strong we really are. You should be appreciative that we have that volume of squad depth.

I suppose you wanted Park shifted out too then, back when he played a vital role as a top squad player?

Neither Young or Park are/were shite. Players like that have been vital to our success down the years.

Young does a really good job tracking back and covering Evra when he plays, I don't wanna see him sold, but I do want to see him up his game. We've only rarely seen him hit top form before another injury takes him out.

Someone like Young is great to have in our squad. He's not good enough to be a star player at a top level club but not every player has to be. On his day he's quality and his work rate is never in doubt. He has proven very useful in difficult games as well. When all of our players are fit and in form you wouldn't put him in the starting line-up, but that rarely happens and there are so many games in a season. You need players like him.

I like him. He seems very down-to-earth. That time when he stood hooded between our supporters in the stands was quality. Now if he'd just cut out his diving habit and stay on his feet more often, that'd be great.

Anyway people wanting him out simply haven't got a clue. You think we could manage without him? Just look at this season, Nani and Kagawa out for extended periods and Valencia horrendously out of shape. We'd have been fecked without him. And if you'd get someone else in his place, you think you could find a better player than him who'd be willing to be fourth choice? Doubtful. You can't challenge on all fronts without players like him in the squad.

Missed him massively IMO on Sunday, lacked width without him. I have no idea why people are thinking of selling him when he's been our best winger by a mile this season. Obviously circumstances play a part in that but he's stood up well in the big games and a better option than kagawa, welbeck and Valencia out wide at the moment.

I would say he's only been better than Valencia, he obviously provides more width than the other two but I don't think he's been better.

I agree with everything, he's the sort of players who are important to have. You can rely on them to give 100% even if it may not produce a quality match. The least expected from a player is to try again, again and again

We looked worse against Liverpool after he went off and I believe we would have beaten Spurs with him in the team. His style won't get anyone off the edge of their seats but he's really effective.

Just how 'shit' does a player have to be to be called 'shit'? I mean, given they are Premier League footballers, you can turn around and say none of them are really shit. That said, Park was as shit as 'shit' gets at this level over the last 18 months. No need to lie about it, he isn't reading this!

As for Young, he's a good squad option at the moment, I just hope Fergie doesn't hesitate to move him down the pecking order should we sign or develop a younger player than him with more promise though.

Story is not up yet and I'm not linking The Mail, feck them, search it on Twitter and you shall find.

nope. wrong on park. i was a pretty big park fan (though i did agree with leaving him out of the 18 in 08 against chelsea).

park wasn't a twat. didn't come on a massive transfer fee and command big wages.

we sold berbatov finally hence us winning the shifting shite out trophy last season. We'll win it again when we get rid of young.

He was never injured at Villa.. what the feck are we doing in training?
The slight positive.... the return of Nani.

SAF said Young has been training in Qatar but still isn't 100% fit so will miss the Fulham game, don't know where the "6 weeks" rumor came from but it seems to be a load of bollox.

They always do that... and then they have reason to write another article about miraculous healings.

Great to have Young back.
Quality defensive work, and our most effective winger this season. Hard to believe some of the shit he gets off Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime on here. You don't always need the best player in the World, for every position. You need someone who compliments the team.
Welcome back Ashley.

The more depth at this stage of the season, the better. Young is a great squad player to have and before his injury, he wasn't bad at all. Hopefully he continues on that form.

True but also for that very reason I think he is someone we might see leave as ultimately hes replaceable. Ive had that opinion about Young for a while now. If we did decide to sell we'd still recoup a decent fee. If he gives us 10 good matches a season thats all we really need from him.

I was watching The Wire the other day and it made me wonder when Young would be back.

Good stuff.

Has looked better today.

Created 2 chances with dangerous crosses and blocked 2 crosses atleast.

His composure impressed me today. Never seemed to lose poise. Decent performance

Did better than some suggested in the match thread. His crossing was good and he did his usual defensive work.

He was good. Was probably our best attacking player in the first half. Covered Evra's arse loads of times in the second half.
